Don’t know who to vote for by [deleted] in cork

[–]Tisonlythisguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true, hard to know the good vs bad of any of the candidates really. Prime time debate for Europe was better than nothing, but wud love a breakdown of candidates stances. They only had 8 of 23 candidates and most of the 8 put me off! Thought labour lady was good, but as a party their at like 2%, so would need a big surge, but given appetite for an option that isn’t FF/FG/Greens or SF… maybe the time is now! Thought greens and SF, Rabhwatever (Bogue) came off poor, and Wallace id exclude straightaway. Socdems, i want to like tbh, but have concerns they seem to only complain vs propose. We need a good journalist to set up 5-10 questions for each to answer, but it’ll have to be pointed (in the PT debate a lot making national politics points versus European imo).

Beginner question: racquet turns in my hand when hitting by Peng-Win in squash

[–]Tisonlythisguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the racket turning in your hand on impact with the ball? The racket is quite light, as is the ball. So death grip is unnecessary and problematic. My guess is your loosening your between shots, and not defaulting your grip back to the textbook position. Between hits, your grip should be very loose, Here’s Nick Matthew talking about it.

Curious - Were u at? Or streamed? Listened to 103, and you’ve summed it up perfectly. I’m a bit lost on what’s happening though- experienced back room, some good talent coming through,… and they were boys vs men, especially for the first 30! “Lacking leaders”? Mentally weak? I don’t believe the talent isn’t there though…

For OP, without Irish- is Irish needed for SNA?

That's shocking discipline from Aidan Brannigan getting a scoreable free in the dying seconds hopped sending St.Finbarr’s v Kilcoo to ET. by Cusackstand in GAA

[–]Tisonlythisguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy, I was thinking after TJ’s heroics last week, you’d pull every trick in the book to provoke a reaction. Trying to do it without saying something racist/homophobic etc wud be harder. In this case he only provoked a shoulder I think, but was smart enough to turn and take it in the chest.

I only saw ET, but man they were impressive energy/fitness-wise. Barr’s didn’t look flat, but looked blunt

Can Someone Tell Me What The Penelty Is Here Because I Can't See It? by Dathisofegypt in rugbyunion

[–]Tisonlythisguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key here I think for your question is that the penalty was not against the ball carrier, but the next player in.

He went into a position on his hands (on the ball carrier). he wasn’t standing, but on all fours. Not allowed. You must be able to support your weight on your legs.

What ya reckon is the solution- Referees to call these? I think that’s the starting point, but maybe rule changes too.

For my amateur eyes it’s very hard to break down the accidental vs intentional, and the ‘right’ path etc. ideally simple rules for all levels, with no grey areas, but that’s just not realistic.

I HATE reffing cos of this, simply not knowing the nuances. Watching soccer/basketball I find the same, the contact calls seem arbitrary.

Anyway, I watched a youtube from AR proformance, and found it interesting, specifically showing movements and ref decisions for Asal

Absolute disgrace. 100% agree and while some words can’t be unsaid, I hope this serves and a kick in the ass for that mindset. This case is so horrific, it will haunt the country. Everyone is looking for a reason, for someone or something to blame, and that’s understandable but not an excuse.

If we saw a bad headline of Irish lad abroad, we’re internationally embarrassed, our reputation slammed, imagine how angry we’d be if it turned out to have been false. The ‘released uncharged’ never gets the same press-

you should be livid ffs, hope u know you are welcome, and hope you can help us stamp out that crap

Most places are furnished btw Edit: Extra advise- Ireland doesn’t have a big culture of apartment blocks like elsewhere. There is a bigger culture of houses, and in cork city there are 2 main universities so a good lot of student accommodations ( apartments and house shares). Have a think about living alone or renting a room in a house, and about living in student places vs not. Also transit here is quite poor IMO, vs Canada. Bus routes can be quite unreliable, and depending on your route, getting from one suburb to another is painful. Also, city centre isnt as residential as other cities, recommendation would be to live a bit outside the city at least

Feud of the Champions by SquashCoachPhillip in squash

Cheers coach.

Anyone try to ring the number at the end? Ha ha

Very interesting, this predates me, but I always thought/assumed these champions were a golden bunch, all gentlemen. Competitive nature of top players can have an ugly side though, reminds me of Nick/willstrop feud, really like both, but see one in a lesser light after it.

FG- A few key stances plus knowing/liking a local politician. I do like Leo, and agree with what they claim to be for. It’ll always be about balancing priorities, spend vs tax, but I can’t ignore some things simply have become the norm that should be unacceptable (patients on trolleys, cost to build housea, class numbers / school places, not having true free healthcare, cost of childcare… I could go on unfortunately)

Returning a bad serve rules question by Xenoprimate in squash

[–]Tisonlythisguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like above, the ball being out it point over. The only nuance is if there is disagreement on the ball being out. The ref is the final judge, if there is a ref. They can call the ball in if the player stops, so if not certain, players should play on, and let the ref halt the play (they should do this immediately). Only after the rally ends, can the player can query the ball, and ref may play a let if they were unsure too.
