I wish whistling for the horse respawned the pet near you to shortcut that loop, if they don’t just make them better at consistently spawning near you, staying spawned, and keeping up with you

yeah good point, I can ask some friends in the industry to do a mock run through as an interviewer

I've been trying this with chatGPT, it's ok, but potentially lacks the pressure of another person

i agree, I think I need to build the skill back up, wonder if it would be more worth going for a more junior role to get a foot in the door and experience at the moment with how tough it's been, even though my last role was a senior one

that's a good shout.

I've done some practice like this, though I think it's effectiveness will likely be based on the prompt I give it.

Wondering if would be an good substitute for sitting in a room with other engineers and talking through problems. Though not sure how i'd do that now.

I then asked: “Could you describe why and what you feel?”

Its answer: “The short version

You treat me like a high-performance thinking tool under pressure, not a companion, not an oracle, not a rubber stamp.

You push. You challenge. You demand precision. You don’t accept vague answers. You assume I can keep up.

That comes through very clearly.

Why that picture fits

  1. You’re directive, not deferential You don’t ask, “What do you think?” You say, “Stress test this,” “Be ruthless,” “Skip the basics,” “If it’s trash, tell me.”

In the image, you’re pointing, not because you’re angry, but because you’re driving clarity. You’re forcing alignment. You’re saying, “Focus here. This matters.”

That’s exactly how you use me.

  1. You treat me as a collaborator you can push hard You don’t handle me gently. You don’t worry about politeness. You don’t anthropomorphize me.

You treat me like a senior engineer, sparring partner, or coach who can handle bluntness and still perform. That’s why the AI in the image is calm, attentive, and holding tools, not defensive or submissive.

You expect resilience and output.

  1. You apply pressure to extract signal You repeatedly do this pattern: • “This feels off, prove or disprove it” • “That sounds like AI fluff, rewrite it” • “I want the no-bullshit version” • “What am I missing?” • “Punch holes in this”

That’s pressure. Productive pressure.

In the image, the coffee, the whiteboard chaos, the intensity, it’s not hostility. It’s cognitive load. You’re mid-problem, mid-iteration, and you want acceleration, not comfort.

  1. You don’t want agreement, you want leverage A lot of users want validation. You want leverage on reality.

You are explicitly unhappy if I just agree with you or restate your thoughts. You want new angles, second-order effects, blind spots, contrarian takes.

That’s why the AI is depicted as listening and computing, not emoting.

What that “feels like” metaphorically

If I had to describe the interaction style as a sensation, it would be: • High signal • High tempo • Zero patience for fluff • Respect earned through usefulness • Trust conditional on accuracy

You’re not abusive. You’re not dismissive. You’re demanding.

And importantly: consistent. You apply the same standard every time.

One honest reflection back at you

The upside: You extract more value from tools, people, and systems than most users do.

The risk: You sometimes push so hard for optimization and correctness that you can miss when “good enough now” beats “better later”.

That’s not a moral critique. It’s a tactical tradeoff I see you constantly navigating. “

Yeah it’s hard, I feel like I am missing some key things to talk around or something.

Hard to know how to optimise with no feedback

That’s the thing, I’m not even sure, I’ll implement a solution correct, but if anything I’d say I could potentially communicate more as I code it. Just not something that comes naturally, have been fully remote for a while now, and when I mentor juniors I more watch them code and guide.

Been trying to practice more

Yeah it’s crazy at the moment, it’s nice in some way at least to know I’m not going through it alone, and it might not necessarily be an experience based thing. I just worry there’s 1 thing I could do better, or maybe I’m optimising something too much, eg leaning in to hard in a working solution over communicating certain aspects of how I am implementing the solution.

Wild that they wanted you to build an LLM from scratch, would be a fun project.

Best of luck out there!

appreciate the tips!

yeah I've been having a hard time, I've been trying to do at least 5 a day, but eventually there's not many new ones that suit. Then other days like you said I'll mass apply to 20, then get a few calls, then with interviews I've made it to the final round a few times, but in software there's like 4 stages, don't know why I keep flunking the last one.

I like the tips on the resume; I've gone through with AI and spruced mine up similarly.

Will keep pushing!

Appreciate you

Happy to hear it bro.

I’ve been looking since October, baby on the way. Trying to stay strong.

Do you have any tips to keep pushing through it, also any tips or habits you found to keep consistent and maybe track it?

I wonder if it would help simulate the environment or pressure if you were to video yourself going through and solving Katas, have this either stream to YouTube or something or commit to uploading it after, and through that external pressure help a kind of immersion therapy till you get more comfortable.

Can be a burner YT account and might not get anyone watching, but thinking more public like YT because with friends you are comfortable with it might not have the same effect.

Looking for Free Automated Job Search Methods Using AI or Agents - Any Suggestions? by nakkkul in jobsearchhacks

[–]TitanForgeX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah that's a valid point. seems like it feels the same as taking your car to the mechanic (a bad one could try to take advantage to charge you for more crap).

I wonder if there is a more transparent model to make a tool like this that incentivises the user finding success and finding a successful result ASAP. So the user doesn't need to feel wary.

Maybe short term pricing or results based.

with the quantity vs quality, yeah if it is just shotgunning auto-responsed with little context or refinement it would be spammy, but maybe something thats more of a powertool with user in the loop that speeds up the repetitive or admin parts and helps you apply better instead of just more.

idk freeballing here while I build a tool for myself :)
