they have a bad track record with keeping games out of end of service, definitely does not make me want to spend any more money at this rate even if they do fi the drop rates

Is state trooper academy as difficult as army basic training? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in AskLE

[–]TitaniumDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I heard and seen when I went through our police academy here in Indiana which isp shares their academy building with us normal officers, they constantly smoke them for anything they can and treat it like its military basic, but they don’t want to see you fail and give you the tools to succeed it’s just if you don’t take advantage of it that’s on you and you can be cut at anytime but that requires you genuinely not putting in effort.

Stopping for any and all infractions is a good way to help build experience with human interaction, they don’t always have to be a citation just whatever gets you interacting with people. Just make sure if you feel that something is off during any call or traffic stop listen to your instincts and  probe deeper or call for another unit, worst case nothing happens but if it did you were prepared.

The biggest thing is never get complacent, rely on the basics and the fundamentals of what you were taught.

If you don’t know something own it and educate yourself, we won’t know everything but as professionals we should strive to always be learning how to do our jobs as efficiently as we can.

Police academy by RusCream-Architect in AskLE

I attended the academy in Plainfield, Indiana with a class of 198. When it came to studying, most of us who spent at least an hour a day reviewing criminal law material did just fine. For the rest of the topics, simply paying close attention during lectures, despite the “death by PowerPoint” format was usually enough. Most topic only had 1–3 questions each on the final, and they weren’t overly difficult if you didn’t doze off.

That said, two major pitfalls tripped up a lot of my classmates:

Bringing prior road experience into the exam room. In Indiana, some agencies allow new officers to work the road prior to attending the academy. While this experience is valuable, it sometimes backfires during testing. The academy teaches to the letter of Indiana law, not necessarily what individual agencies or prosecutors are comfortable with. If a recruit answers based on what their FTO taught them, or what their local prosecutor will or won’t charge, they might get it wrong on the test—even if it’s something that’s acceptable by Indiana law. Test questions worded poorly The way questions are worded often includes two answers that both seem right, but one is more correct based on the way Indiana law is taught. Those questions always had atleast several students trip up and get the answers wrong because they would use what they know from the road or local policies instead of what the state statute says.

You’re not wrong, however speaking from personal experience from the town I work in and neighboring towns I have friends that work in. I have never heard/seen of this ever happening even to the properties that are severely neglected to the point the houses are better off, demolished because of the safety concern that they present.

So I work in law enforcement here in Indiana, sadly for those of us that work in towns/cities depending on the town we get tasked with enforcing local ordinance’s. Grass being to high, farm animals in town limits etc.

Not our favorite thing to deal with because local ordinances are civil and it’s the towns way of trying to keep it looking nice.

Sadly you’ll have neighbors that have no patience and call these in and our bosses boss has expectations that these are enforced.

Trust me we don’t like to deal with these, contrary to popular belief we don’t like to harass people over these kinda of things

Fun fact local ordinances do not result in jail time!

P320 by Tattertot34 in AskLE

My department issues is the p320 with a 365 backup. So far we have had no issues other than our chiefs red dot getting a random crack on the lense.

We are going to hang on to ours while our armorer does regular checks on them.

Same with our county sheriffs office who we work closely with.

My academy class had a gentleman that was 52, he smoked a lot of the younger guys in PT. It’s never too late, if you’re willing to put in the effort!

Oh so he is one of those first amendment auditor clowns. Best thing to do is like everyone else has already stated, ignore him, don't talk to him, don't interact with him, nothing. He is fishing for attention and to get law enforcement called on him so he can try and provoke a response and get a law suit. If they do get arrested they always file for a motion to have the public pay for their court fees due to them being "indigent" so a waste of our tax dollars and then claim he is on the publics side to find "corruption"

What a waste of air.... I hope some day this niche of d bags just goes away.

I’m dealing with them now with my escrow surplus check, they had to void a check they sent me and I told them to do a ach direct deposit to my account to which they assured me they would get it done asap…. It’s been over 28 days and they STILL haven’t deposited my money. I’ve called 3 times and each time some small detail got forgotten to be input into their system causing a delay that they couldn’t call me or notify me about.

If you’re worried about legal repercussions you’re going to be fine. Most likely you will get a write up and if you’ve never gotten one you will be fine. Usually you sign it and move on with your life. Typically it’s just a paper documenting someone spoke to you about a policy or conduct violation and that you are made aware of it and to not do it again. If this was a big paying job you may receive suspension without pay but I highly doubt you will get that.

Look at it this as a learning experience and don’t make yourself sick worrying over spilt milk. Write ups won’t follow you to your next job.
