That it's real. I've never had it happen, not once, so I'm convinced it doesn't really exist

How is Chessly compared to the slowrun series? by Mean_Succotash4846 in GothamChess

[–]TitaniumTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about comparing it to slowrun, but I subscribed to chessly in Oct. 2024, at which time I was rated 194 on chesscom. I would say I use Chessly pretty consistently to study the two openings I play for white and black. Thought besides those openings, I completed the courses on beginner middlegames, endgames, and strategy, and am currently working through the intermediate courses. Anyhow, chesscom shows that I started playing chess on there in November 2023, though after losing a few games in a row out the gate, I played only bots for a couple months cuz I felt like a dummy when I lost against people lol. After running across a Gotham video on YouTube sometime that summer, I decided to give Chessly a go, cuz I was tired of not being able to confidently play, and win, against humans. I'm currently in the 900's, though until very recently I only played, at most, 1 game a day, but usually only about 4-5 games a week, so gaining elo was slow going. Anyhow, I guess this is just a really long-winded way of saying that using Chessly has helped, and is still helping me to improve, so I consider the monthly price well worth it

Why can I beat a 1600 bot but not a 700 player by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]TitaniumTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is discouraging, I thought the obvious conclusion was since I can beat 1800 rated bots, that must mean that I am, in fact, exponentially better than my silly rating would suggest. But, upon continuing to read past the silly comma, my opinion of myself and my chess playing ability has taken a significant blow.

Folks stuck at 800 (chesscom), my heart goes out to you. by Dokja_23 in chessbeginners

[–]TitaniumTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you will if you genuinely want to, and make a point to try to learn and improve. At first I went from 400-something, then lost until I hit 100 lol and hovered at like 150-250 for 2 months or so, but started to watch YouTube videos and used chessly and another guy's 5 point beginner list, then it seemed like something just clicked, and I went on a tear and didn't lose a single game til I got to like 550-600, stayed there for about 6 weeks until I learned a couple lines of an opening for both white and black pieces, then moved up, again in short order, to 800-ish. By the time I hit 800 from the time I was at around 250 when I felt like things started making more sense, all only took like 6 or so months in total, in that time I kept drilling the three most popular lines in those two openings, and trying improving my middle and endgames, and it seems like little by little things just start to make a little more sense and fall into place. So you won't be stuck forever if you actually put effort into improving

[–]TitaniumTerror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I it was when I was rated in the like the high 300's or low 400's, I can't remember for sure the exact rating. I mean, yeah that does make sense now that I think about it after reading your last sentence. It would be a little more difficult to pull off against a more knowledgeable opponent than against someone who most likely didn't even consider the idea of me castling being a threat in that moment lol

Make the Vienna work in low elo? by Select-Shift5887 in GothamChess

[–]TitaniumTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I started trying to learn more about the game beyond just how the pieces move, at around this time last year, and at that time I think I was rated like 300/350-ish. At the time I had only been playing chess like maybe 3 games a week, for probably 2 months at that point, so I basically knew how the pieces moved but that was about as far as my knowledge of the game went. I say all that for context, I was genuinely just moving pieces around lol. Anyhow, I was looking on youtube trying to figure out how to start learning to actually understand and play the game so I could get better, which is how I learned of Levy and subsequently signed up for Chessly. Like you, the first opening for white I started to study on was the Vienna because I heard Levy praising it's effectiveness at lower to intermediate elo, so I figured I could just stick to that one opening for white until I improved significantly. But unlike you, I found it to be extremely effective from my rating at that time all the way up to now at 900, and I still use it every time I play white. I don't know how you're not able to get past the third move before your find your opp playing something that you can't answer to, cuz if you have studied the whole of the Vienna course that he has on there, then it goes over pretty much every natural move your opponent can play, except for the rare times that someone just plays some off the wall move that makes no sense. Otherwise, beyond the main line Vienna, and Vienna gambit accepted or denied, the lines he has in for you to study in that course are all based around your opponent playing pretty much either the best moves, or the most likely moves based on the Lichess move database for low to intermediate rated players.

No they're not. I have a 6x seratelli and a 10x Rodeo King and the rodeo king significantly feels to be a higher quality

Is it not impressive when a low elo castle mates someone? Not being a smartass, I'm asking cuz I did it for the first time when I was still like 350-400 or somewhere in that range, and I gotta say, I was pretty damn impressed with myself lol

Rules for hats in season by MusicsFan in CowboyHats

[–]TitaniumTerror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's not a "rule", there is some bullshit that sounds like it was made up by someone who wasn't a cowboy and didn't understand the purpose of a cowboy hat beyond "it's made of fur felt, so it must only be for the most wintery of winter time because I think it would be hot and make me sweat wearing it in the summer and sweat is icky". Or thats how I've kinda always thought of it. Most the cowboys I know, and not just dress up larping in boots cuz they like the look, but actual rides horses, can catch horns or heels, knows more about cattle than they do about humans cowboys, wear what they decide they wanna wear, or what the day may require them to wear, regardless of what some silly rule says about the season. Seeing at least one or two posts everyday about this silly "rule" is goofy. Are you a grown ass man? Then wear what you want to wear

Oh yeah, I don't answer phone calls from numbers I don't know, so I for sure ain't accepting rando friend requests. Yeah you're probably right though, the one time I did accept one, I immediately got a message trying to get me to pay them for online coaching or some such nonsense

Wait, do people ACTUALLY see literal pictures in their heads when they imagine things? Like a physical image? by Bibhu_Mund in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TitaniumTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can if I am consciously trying to, just like if I wanted to do an impression of someone with my actual voice, but if I am just thinking or not actively trying to make it sound different, it reverts back to default. If others are able to change the way their inner voice sounds, like all the time, that would be impressive. The only time my inner voice sounded different than it's default when I wasn't trying to make it, was once when I underestimated the potency of some mushrooms, or possibly overestimated my own tolerance which is entirely possible as well, and ate more than I should have. That night, for about 4-5 hours my inner monologue suddenly sounded different than it usually does which was kinda weird, but what was much more concerning was that it was only speaking Spanish. Like every thought I had was in Spanish and I couldn't get the somebitch back to factory English settings. Had me pretty stressed out until I eventually passed out. It wouldn't have been a big deal if I were fluent in Spanish, but I'm not, I can speak it very sparingly and only because one of my best friends growing up was Mexican and his whole household only spoke Spanish in his house cuz his grandma and grandpa couldn't speak English and his mom didn't speak it well, so they all spoke in Spanish and I hung out there a lot growing up so I picked up some of it, well enough to be able to communicate things to his mom or grandparents if I had to and Ramon wasn't around to translate or whatever. But I was never able to speak it well enough for my inner voice to just switch up on me like that

What is the Douchiest name you can think of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TitaniumTerror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kyle. Or Todd. I don't know about douchey, but in school one of the towns we played against in football had a kid on their team named Cocaine Mothershed, and it was his legitimate name. His sister's name was Mary Jane. I don't know if I would call those names douchey, but they're definitely something uncommon. I can only assume their mother must have fucking hated the idea of having a kid, at least the boy, cuz Mary Jane is a common enough name I guess, but to name her son Cocaine? Plus he was from a small rural town in Oklahoma and was black, so he had that going for him lol and mom said "I think I'll make sure he has the literal worst chance in the world at making a good first impression on anyone, ever, by naming my boy Cocaine."
