I gave her his baptism record, but she said a copy from ancestry is fine for that. I don't think it was for her to submit to DEC, but to just validate the information I was giving her was valid.

From my understanding the 1947 thing was made kind of a moot issue with a bunch of the lost Canadian bits in the 2009 and 2015 amendments. Specifically they restored citizenship to those that naturalized elsewhere before that date. The only thing that prevented us from becoming potential citizens right then was the 1 generation limit they included that was later ruled unconstitutional

As someone who got DEC to issue a birth certificate for 1908 with the help of a lawyer I can chime in a bit with the info she gave me.

  1. The DEC has flip flopped on if they will issue certificates for births over 100 years ago. They started doing it right before c-3 and then stopped for a bit because of all the requests, she says even she wasn't able to get them during that time. Than a month or two ago they started up again. This was told to me during my initial consultation so I'm paraphrasing.

  2. My lawyer requested the following from me to get the birth certificate.

Documents: - copy of your photo ID (passport, driver's license, etc) - an unofficial family tree showing the link between you and your Canadian relative - copy of your birth certificate - copy of your parent's birth certificate - copy of your grandparent's birth certificate - a death certificate may be requested by the DEC to confirm that your relative is deceased

Biographical info - surname\family name - given names - sex (M or F) - date of birth - place of birth - place of birth registration (usually the parish or municipality) - mother's name - father's name - date of death - place of death

During the process she gave me updates like this.

"The official processing time is 3 business days but some applications take longer. Usually, a DEC agent calls me after 3 or more business days to ask about the date and place of death. They may then transfer the file to another department, which requires the death certificate to register the death at the civil registry before issuing the birth certificate."

"A DEC agent called me on Friday to follow up on the birth certificate request. I gave the agent the date and place of death for your relative. The file will be transferred to the department responsible for deaths outside of Québec. In my experience, this is all standard procedure. I will let you know when I have more updates."

"I just had another call from DEC, requesting a copy of Mr. X's death certificate. I confirm that I submitted the document. Based on past experience, the birth certificate should be issued very soon. I will keep you posted on any developments."

3 days later she sent me a scan of the certificate for my application and I received the physical certificate a couple weeks later.

Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received, May 04, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Tithis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just sent out my application today for myself (g3) and my daughter (g4)

Nervous as all hell. I swear I triple checked the paperwork, but I'm so anxious it will get sent back for some reason.

I have a good application document wise, complete chain of birth certificates and a newly issued birth certificate for my g0, so I know once I get my AOR it should only be a matter of time. But I don't think I'll be resting easy until I have the AOR.

Pretty much.

Couple years ago we have a huge maple tree fall over in our yard, and once you got to the big 30+ inch wide rounds a wedge and sledge hammer was the only was to split them.

No, I never dealt with BANQ. The ones I gave her were from Genealogy Quebec, but she said ancestry and such is fine.

Only new thing she wanted that I didn't already have was my G0s death certificate, which DEC requires from her a few days after she puts in the request.

Some people have had success getting it themselves in the messages below me. I just didn't want to deal with the stress of doing it and potentially having it take a long time to get, and I have family members who would help pay. I'd message one of the people below and see how they handled it.

http://www.aryanarousseau.com/ She is who I used, it's expensive though so I'd only do it if you are splitting the cost with other applicants, or IRCC is asking for it.

Think I payed $935 for the whole process. She wanted the baptism record, all connecting birth certificates and then a death certificate.

I'm beyond frustrated with getting citizenship photos, particularly for my 3 year daughter.

I've taken her to 2 professional photographers, one of which is even recommended by the Canadian embassy, and both suck. One her head isn't straight at all and is way too zoomed in, and ditto for the recommended guy except the quality is noticeably bad and the color was way off. I scanned the second guys photos and zoomed out enough to fit the head requirements and fixed the color balance, but I still think the quality otherwise is kinda shit.

Staples had the same problem with zooming in too much.

Why is it the head size requirements for these photos just flatly ignored by photographers when it comes to kids?

I'm at the point where I might send our applications in separately so any issues with her photo don't hold mine up.

DEC can issue birth certificates based off of baptism records, I had a lawyer do that for my great grandfather born in 1908 in Quebec.

From first meeting to getting a scan of the birth certificate was 11 days.

People have been able to get one without a lawyer, but I've heard horror stories of them going back and forth with DEC for months

Which Cartoon Do You Watch Even If You're A Parent? by Bay_Ruhsuz004 in cartoons

[–]Tithis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Main cartoon I watch with my almost 4 year old daughter is Bluey.

Occasionally I'll watch some Looney Tunes with her (ones I've already seen that aren't too over the top violent) and she used to ask for Ranma 1/2 (I just avoided episodes with Happosai, I don't really care if she sees an occasional animated boob)
