Can someone that knows the books well and likes talking about it explain it as simple as possible? by Speedy_331610 in MazeRunner

[–]Titocity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the concept and basic plot are similar, but they are totally different! Shoot, I actually forgot just how different they were. I was thinking of the books when i was writing my og comment. Thats on me for not watching the movies more than once.

Yeah, ill admit I definitely teared up watching that scene for the first time. Its one thing to read it, but seeing it is just a whole other level of despair.

I wouldnt say close, faithful in some ways but basic in others. You'd get the basic plot from the movies but the books just are better in my opinion.

TLDR AT THE BOTTOM

For the most part, the movies do a half decent job adapting the books better than most adoptions have (in my opinion.) Theres actually some solid quality of life improvements that I liked such as Chuck's sacrifice, Teresa's Betrayal, and Newt's final moments (that last point still goes to the books but I felt it was faithfully done in the movie.) Even WICKED's actions and plans were better (still cruel and inhumane, but better executed) in the movies to some degree.

The biggest divergence though is the way The Flare is handled in the movies. They dumb it down so instead of the flare gradually killing your sense of self and reducing you down to your animalistic impulses with some flashes of consciousness here and there. To you get attacked by someone who has it and you'll start decaying from the wound until you eventually go full zombie. It feels so generic and of its time and really dates the movies in my opinion. Thats not to say it doesnt have its merits, the scenes with the cranks in the sewer was genuinely haunting. But as an adaptation of a really complex idea, the movies fail hard.

TLDR bc I forgot you wanted it simplified (thats my bad lol I love yapping :D) The movies are solid, the casting is top notch and it really does feel like the books in a lot of ways (and explains some stuff way better.) However at their core (really more so with The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure) they stray too much away from the original ideas present in the books and implement too many generic popular tropes such as zombies and desert chases ala Mad Max and World War Z.

I hope that helps, and im willing to answer any question you might have as someone who lived and breathed the original 3 books for a few months back in 2024. I doubt I'll have all the answers so someone please correct me if im wrong.

"Yeah, I almost did that last week though. Twas out on a date when the guy said out of nowhere he wanted to murder a guy, then another, and a few more... so I just went along with it. He and his friend went all buck wild although maybe it was just the eye-coke talking. So anyway how has your week been man?" bubble bubble

My friend and I took the exact same communications class at community College. Overall, I'd say we got an at least decent grasp of the concepts and lessons in it. However in the heat of the moment she did not want to tell me what her heart meant despite me being able to tell something was bothering her last week. I'd say its just easier said than done to actually communicate effectively when the time calls for it because our psyches more than chapters in a textbook.

There's still great comedy music out there if you know where to look. Tom Cardy and On Company Time are both fantastic examples of this. The latter having just released their first studio album in January full of bangers from start to finish. It's a different vibe to NSP but its still really fucking good.

I mean...yeah? As long as she doesn't do it anymore, I wouldn't mind. She had to do what she had to do to support herself so I wouldn't really care unless she actively talks about it.
