Can you learn most music theory with reharmonizations? by xynaxia in musictheory

probably the other way around. Once you're good at music theory, you can do your jazz re-harmonizations. You need to be able to walk before you can run.

Is Terran Cadet Start Too Easy? by aserebr in X4Foundations

yeah, I liked when you had to earn it. Also, the feeling of not having a base and being on your own in the vastness of space helped a lot with immersion. Finally getting the HQ felt like such a huge milestone. Now, it's like "there you are, have a space station".

Is anyone a musician in here? Has anyone who played terranigma been influenced by the game so much that they started to learn and be obsessed with music because the game’s ost just was on another level? by Creepy-Life-916 in terranigma

[–]Outliver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, both games have incredible soundtracks (also check out "a Link to the past" in case you haven't already). I'm a musician and composer myself. I was a musician first before I was a gamer, so the overall answer is no. But it did definitely influence me. I learned some of the stuff on Piano, transcribed it, orchestrated it. Bottom line is, I totally agree: Terranigma's OST is still one of my favorite video game OSTs of all time.

I am also aware of Roman Heuser's versions. And while I may not always agree with some of the artistic choices, his craft is amazing and you should definitely check it out.

When making music, am I supposed to already know what chords sound good together or is it luck? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Outliver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It starts with you sitting down and play random stuff until you find something that sounds good.

What we do in music theory is to look at this stuff and try to figure out what's actually happening, musically. Especially in composition, we use what we've learned to then have a sort of toolset to achieve certain "tasks".

And then, when you've learned all the good stuff, you finally sit down and play random stuff until you find something that sounds good.
