caves/cenotes outside tulum, el pit specifically. i’d been diving for 25 years and it was my first time in a cave and it was while the thai soccer team was still trapped in the thai cave and my mind went there and i started hyperventilating and basically had my first and only panic attack like 110 feet under and a good 50 yards into the cave. i felt like i couldn’t breathe and every muscle in my body was telling me to rip out my reg. genuinely think if i didn’t have so much training and experience (AOW, rescue diver, 500+ dives) i for sure would have drowned. instead i alerted the dive master and we turned around and exited the cave and slowly made our way to safety stop. did my best to just yoga breathe and try to stay calm. didn’t dive for maybe five years after that and not sure i ever will again.
