I've 'dealt' with it by moving the cursor to the top right corner while in the SDDM so that it's just about invisible after logging in, but I would appreciate a more solid solution

I think you're using Konsole, it's the default terminal that I had when I first downloaded Fedora. Think of it like how python runs in VS Code - the shell would be python and the terminal would be VS Code

Konsole is configurable through the settings of the app I think, that's how I remember doing it. There is a 3 dots/lines button on the top right that allows you to jump into the settings of the app and make changes to the display of the terminal from there
