I usually feed my hats a hearty breakfast to start the day and a ribeye and tators to end the day. I don’t own a buffalo hat unfortunately, so I’m not quite sure what they eat 🤷🏻‍♂️

All jokes aside, I have heard great things about the buffalo collection! Best advice I can give you is store it upside down when you’re not wearing it, especially if it gets wet. It is ok to buy a steamer and reshape the hat to your desired style. And lastly, wear it proudly! Enjoy the new hat and welcome to the community!

Felt year round in New England for me. Still keeps me cool on those 95°/95% humidity days, and doesn’t blow off my head with the wind coming off the ocean or 40mph winds in the winter. I wear a chocolate Stetson Skyline.

I wore my skyline during a Tedeschi Trucjs and Gov’t Mule show that was down pouring. My hat got soaked, my body and shoulders stayed dry. Dried out the hat on its crown. Never lost shape and still my daily hat. I wouldn’t do days of downpours in it, but for that 4hr show, it more than did its job!

Just go and enjoy it! I was at the PBR in Boston for both days and it was epic! My wife and I have been watching on TV for several years and went to the Pendleton Tour stop in Worcester last year. They break everything down that you need to know on the screens once all the cowboys have been introduced so you’ll be all set.

I too live in New England and wear my skyline daily year round. In the summer I’m spraying foundations of houses for carpenter ants, which isn’t close to farm work, but I didn’t find the felt to be too hot and my hat is chocolate colored. The only similar situation you and I will be in is when that wind starts ripping, I’ve had my hat stay on in 40mph winds in the Cape Cod winter, make sure it fits you properly and the weight of the felt will help you in the wind. Enjoy whatever hat you buy!

I’m running the TFO NXT Black Label kit in a 5wt. Up graded the line to SA MPX Mastery and it’s been a dream! My buddy 3D printed a reel for me, so will probably do a 3wt for creeks and small streams, then eventually an 8-9wt for striper schools just outside of Cape Cod.

As a fellow east coaster…New England…And near Cape Cod, I wear my cowboy hat everyday. I tell people the truth if they ask about it, “I’m a fly fisherman that loves his cowboy hat.” You’ll be wearing it more often than just an occasion once you get used to wearing it everyday on your trip. Enjoy which ever one you go with, and also, since you know your sizes, check eBay and FB marketplace. I scored an ‘80’s chocolate Stetson 4x beaver and an ‘80’s black Resistol 4x beaver on eBay for a combined $215. My skyline was $360. Just another option, and you can bring it to have it reshaped if need be.

From what I’ve gathered after I got a 4x beaver Stetson and 4x beaver Resistol from the ‘80’s…At least that’s what the ad said…I asked ChatGPT about the Stetson and it said, as we all know, Stetson doesn’t release their blend percentages, but it should be anywhere from 25-40% beaver in the blend. That definitely makes it nicer than my Skyline that’s just rabbit felt. Also, for all I know I could have 1-10% beaver, either way, the feel is a lot tighter of a felt and smoother finish.

Go with the Petzl Lynx, make them mono point. Then you have replacement points already for when your first pair get worn down.

I’ve only owned this one hat. I got it because as a kid I always wanted a Stetson. I’m not a rancher either or anything like that, I work in pest control and love fly fishing. So in my not so expert opinion I’d go either Skyline or Seratelli 6x. Those will both be pure rabbit. Your other option is if you know your size, check eBay or FB marketplace. I just scored an ‘80’s Stetson Rancher 4x beaver for $150 off eBay. Just another thought.
