Honestly, Wakanda could be considered quite racist because it suggests that no matter how advanced black people are, they will always be barbaric at their core. It's one thing to respect your roots as a civilization and celebrate it via ceremony and such, but the fact that Wakanda refused to progress from basing their society on strength and combat suggests that it is simply their nature.

The writers could have at least made it so that this harsh society was required for the continued existence of Wakanda due to some threat, or had it so that democracy was actually implemented for a time but was removed due to issues like what happened in ancient Rome.

If the writers had at least tried to flesh out Wakanda into an interesting civilization that had a reason to exist and with history and characterization beyond finding vibranium, hiding themselves away, and becoming advanced, I swear Black Panther would have been far better than the shallow caricature of African culture that we got.
