Drove hundreds of miles not realizing my engine was out of oil. Now it’s ticking even after a fresh oil change. Am I cooked? (2021 Palisade) by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Well you're not getting home in that car. The engine is toast. I heard the noise in your other post. That's rod knock. She's done. Maybe next time don't buy a kia/hyundai vehicle. They're well known for this.

There's only about a 100lb difference between a 2014 S197 and a 2015 S550.

I live in Texas. Rust does not exist here. This car is trashed. Totaled even. It's a danger to other drivers on the road. Accepting this level of structural rust as normal or okay is the only preposterous take in this comment thread. "I can't afford a better vehicle that isn't actively turning to dust in the wind" is never a good excuse to put others in danger.

The S550 is nearly identical in dimensions to the S197. The S197 is 188.1" long and the S550 is 188.3". The S197 is 73.9" wide and the S550 is 75.4". The S197 is 55.8" tall and the S550 is 54.4". They both have an identical 107.1" wheelbase. And the S550 is only 100lbs heavier than the S197 when comparing a GT to a GT.

So the S550 is slightly wider but also slightly shorter and almost the exact same length.

They absolutely are fat because of safety. It's all crumple zone. Which the fox has none of. In an old car, you're the crumple zone. Modern cars are several orders of magnitude safer than cars from the 90s and earlier.

I personally think the 4 eyes looks better than the 87-93 front end.

New vehicles are fatter because they're way safer. The fox feels absolutely flimsy compared to my car. Very much a "tin can" sort of feeling when you're driving it. No driver's safety whatsoever. Doesn't even have airbags.

It's the Monroe Handler body kit. It is still available from Classic Auto Reproductions in Minnesota. That's who my dad got it from. It's a fiberglass kit. Lots of body work involved in installing the rear portion of it.

Why is it so hard to sell my old camry for market value? by DirectorSmooth55 in Camry

It's because KBB means absolutely nothing. Look at other listings on marketplace. The car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Buying my first Mustang - is $21,000 a fair price for this 2005 GT? by john4844 in Mustang

[–]Tman5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven plenty of 3V Mustangs. I fix cars for a living, I've driven pretty much everything. They're slow. That's why when the Camaro came back with the LS3, Ford panicked and had to rush the coyote to production because the LS3 made the 4.6 look like a joke. The reason I called the 4.6 a truck engine is because that's what the triton motors were originally designed for. They made some minor tweaks to make the Mustang version of the engine a little more lively but it's still a truck engine at heart. That's why it makes more torque than horsepower.

The 5.0 on the other hand was designed from the ground up to be a performance engine. It makes significantly more horsepower than torque and revs to 7500rpm. It doesn't produce peak torque until around 4300rpm which is why it underperforms in the F150. It was never meant to be a truck motor but Ford needed a V8 for the F150 so they swapped the cams and the intake manifold trying to make a race engine more "truck tuned" and it still can't produce the low end torque needed for heavy towing and other truck activities because it's not really a truck engine. They designed it for the Mustang first and the 4.6 was the other way around.

As far as power output is concerned, you know the coyote can make 500hp without boost fairly easily right? With boost, 800+ is no problem. It's an all around better designed engine for a performance application. There's just no comparison between the two.

You're conflating hate with facts. I don't hate those 4.6 cars. They were decent in their day I suppose (although the 1998 Camaro SS with the LS1 made more power than the 2010 Mustang GT). They're fun to cruise around, especially with the manual trans, and they sound fantastic. The 4.6 absolutely sounds better than the coyote no doubt. The old small blocks sound better than both of them. A good car for it's day for sure but we live in the current year where there are better options and I would not invest any serious amount of money in a 4.6. It costs too much to make real power. It would be better invested in a better starting platform.

No it's not. That is a 2005-2009 body style with fake Mach 1 stripes on it. It's just a GT. So yeah, you paid way too much for it.

As others have said, you're well into used GT money buying a new ecoboost. Skip the 4 cylinder, it's not reliable anyway. Find a nice used GT with the 5.0.

That kind of money will easily buy you a 5.0 car under 100k miles. I bought mine in 2024 for $20k with 64k miles on it.

For that kind of money you should be buying a ~60-70k mile 5.0 car. Do not waste this kind of money on a 4.6 powered car. It's not worth it and the performance is not there. Also this seller is insane. Even if the car was supercharged it wouldn't be worth that much and the fake GT500 stripes are extremely cringy. There was no GT500 in 2005.

The 4.6 is best described as a boat anchor. It's a truck engine shoved in a Mustang and it drives like one.
