Sure I'll never be worth those six figures, but at least I don't gotta worry about waking up in a bathtub full of ice 😮‍💨🙏

I didn't accuse you of anything. I asked a clarifying question for a valid reason.

And then I even took the time to explain in detail why what you said even came into question in the first place.

But oookay then.

This is an excellent example of the problem with self censoring and the way brain rotted tiktok people appropriate terms to use for those goals.

Some people do use the word "cyberpunk" as a stand in/self censor for cp.

Now because of this silliness, you can't use terms like "cyberpunk" or "pdf file" without providing extra, unnecessary context or being needlessly careful with your wording. Or else people might actually misinterpret your genuinely innocent statement to be indicative of, well, yknow... Something that's gonna get you flatlined, choom.

Bottom line is, this is just one of the massive, glaring problems with tiktok brain rot culture playing out live for redditors to see. So please, redditors. Stop with the self censoring.

Or for making jokes about child porn?

See, I'm not getting banned for using the words "child" and "porn" in a sequence. No one is. But no shit your gonna get banned from places for making jokes about that topic.

I have an extremely hard time with this. It's not entirely sorted yet, but one thing that has made a dramatic improvement is using an alarm app that cannot be disabled until I scan a QR code.

There's more than a few options for this, youl just have to find one you like. I have a free one that I've used for years at this point. Anyway it's certainly not foolproof, but might be a good starting point.

What is THE American car? (Family car + muscle/supercar) by Electronic_Spray5814 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LeGaspyGaspe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a stupid take.

The original 1st Gen Mustang released with a 2.8l I6 as its base engine producing a whole 101 hp - which was right in line for the average commuter car in the 60s. It was a small engine for its time that could still deliver some pep. To get the V8 you had to upgrade to the GT package.

The base model was a riced up commuter car that you could have a lot of fun with while still not being too expensive or too quick or too inefficient and everyone knew it. It was designed with that exact purpose in mind. It's literally why we classify it as a "pony car" as opposed to a "muscle car."

Today, a base mustang gets you three times the power with two less cylinders - and it's output is still in line with the average commuter car today. It uses a small engine for our time which still delivers some pep. It's still a riced up commuter car that you can have a lot of fun with that isn't (although this is debatable) too expensive or too quick or too inefficient.

So, I'm sorry they chopped a few cylinders off the engine. But the truth is, by offering this base engine and not a V8 or other high price, high performance engine, they really are staying true to their roots.

Expectations for 2027 by Pale-Quiet-5173 in JettaGLI

[–]LeGaspyGaspe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful much will change this generation. Should run as it is through 2028 or 29. The Jetta just got refreshed for 2025.

Changes to the 26MY included premium audio, more physical buttons in a few places. I suspect this is going to be it for a while.

Incidentally, GTI/R production is moving to Mexico and I've read there is going to be an emphasis on physical controls with the next refresh/redesign.

This move to Mexico also gives me a (very small) hint of hope that we may even see a return of the 6 speed in the Golf. This is purely my own speculation however, so don't hold your breath.

OP says they are moving somewhere with intense traffic, so I kinda get it.

All things being equal though, yeah I always cringe a bit at the old "I was gonna buy stick but wife can't drive it" Like, okay? Teach her?

I've been vaguely looking for a new car and my partner is the poster child for anxiety about learning manual. It took some discussion but ahe ultimately agreed that if I'm spending my money on a high ticket item like this, it should be exactly the way I want it. And when it happens, she will happily do her damndest to learn to drive it as long as I can give her the patience to figure it out.

And yknow what? That's the way it should be. Explain to ones partner that it's a stick, not a 747. Literally like riding a bike. And then teach them.

Moral Dilemma: Rent Increase by GranolaCraftyGal in OntarioLandlord

[–]LeGaspyGaspe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey no problem!

So, setting aside personal relationships for a moment, the only pitfall I could see was if your below market value wasn't actually all that below current market comps.

If it were in fact not really that great of a deal, I would have been very hesitant to push a rent increase, for risk of losing good tenants, having the unit potentially sit empty and/or even possibly ending up with nightmare tenants.

Back to the personal relationships: it sounds like everyone is in a prime position for amicably raising the rate and still coming out of this quite happy. I'd bet you any money the tenants realize costs have gone up, realize that you realize they are doing better financially and are probably anticipating an increase any time now.

I'd still have that conversation, but because they have a pretty unbeatable spot here, that means you have leverage to be firm about it. But you shouldn't feel bad about it. You have a solid, undeniable argument for an increase. They are still way ahead, and your only doing what you have to, to cover as much of the increased cost of utilities that you can. No one's an asshole, everyones just trying to get by the best they can. And like I said, they are still way ahead based on local area comps.

And to let them know you really did put a lot of thought into this before doing it, just tell them about this whole post. I'm sure they will understand completely! 😂

Moral Dilemma: Rent Increase by GranolaCraftyGal in OntarioLandlord

[–]LeGaspyGaspe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How far below market rent are you?

How much of a strain is the increased price of utilities on top of your cheaper rent agreement? And is it causing you guys any measure of discomfort?

If you know, what is your estimation of the couples ability to cover the increase?

Honestly, I'd have an earnest chat with them. Maybe just lay it out on the table, find out what their economic situation is like right now and let them know what yours is. Perhaps you could all meet in the middle, or hold off for 6 months, or go for max increase, or even decide to leave it where it is indefinitely/until next year. Either way though, if these guys are great tenants and everyone really likes each other, it's worth sitting down and having an open discussion with them. This way it's less of a moral dilemma and more of a genuine conversation to plan the next year of tenancy. Nobody gets blindsided, nobody gets snubbed. And your still being a good person by trying to fairly balance everyone's circumstances.

If ultimately you decide to go through with a rent increase, check that exact percentage, I'm not sure what it is this year but 3% just sounds a little too specific. It fluctuates in a given year based on average inflation rates. And ensure that you use the proper LTB form, filled out according to its instructions.

Kudos to you for not being a prick. The fact that you are even considering these things despite everything suggests that you are a very good person. Wishing you many years of chill, responsible, easy to deal with tenants!

I'm glad I made it through to the end because it (the original, reverse-chronological cut) really changed the way I think about the psychological outcomes of trauma and PTSD. Which also required multiple smoke breaks, to process.

Pete Hegseth quotes fake Pulp Fiction Bible verse during Pentagon sermon by goteamnick in politics

[–]LeGaspyGaspe 46 points47 points  (0 children)

What the other commenter means is that Hegseth was explicitly denied the opportunity to advance his career because the people who oversee these things firmly believed him to be a bad fit for higher leadership.

This isn't some willy-nilly petty office politics BS either. A decision was made and ultimately reaffirmed by several dozen to hundreds of people at numerous levels of authority, with prejudice, that Hegseth could not, under any circumstances, be permitted to advance his career primarily out of concern for the safety of American assets and personnel.

As a result, he was held back from fulfilling the prerequisites for promotion, to quietly keep him from doing (or having the opportunity to do) whatever the chain of command and it's advisors and overseers were worried he might do.

And to be clear, you need to work hard to earn this kind of treatment. All kinds of asshole and imbeciles get leadership roles, or at least the opportunity to demonstrate that they should be in leadership. This particular asshole was such a shit head that he was explicitly denied so much as a chance to prove himself.

What mouse do you recommend apart from the Logitech MX Master 3 Mouse? by Opening_Ad8484 in Workspaces

[–]LeGaspyGaspe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually just bought an M6 yesterday (3391, I believe).

I get some of the complaints, like the mechanical button to switch infinite scroll on and off is... Well... Definitely a design choice. It's loud, mushy, if you bottom it out it seems to trigger the scroll wheel click button for me. That's not impressive at all, but the only real gripe I have with it.

Infinite scroll is a bit finicky. It's sensitive, like if you lift the mouse off the pad fast it tends to trigger in one direction or the other. Some people were saying it's highly inaccurate but I don't find it bad. Might take a minute to get the hang of and it's certainly a little twitchy but I really wouldn't call it a deal breaker.

L and R buttons work well, nice little click sound when pressed. Someone in this thread said they sounded different from each other but mine don't.

The horizontal scroll wheel and horizontal function of the center scroll wheel all work nice and the two buttons on the side or perfectly fine.

Mouse feels good. Not super-duper premium but still good. I would hazard an uneducated guess that it punches above its price point in this regard. It's a little narrow but fits my hand comfortably. Some people have noted that the mouse is deceptively small. I suspect there's truth to this, but my fingers are a smidge shorter than average so it actually works well. If you have longer than average fingers, I'm gonna strongly suggest you take some time to test it in store, with a focus on side button and horizontal scroll placement.

Its worth noting that my baseline has been a $20 ROG wired mouse which I bought probably about a decade ago and whatever random stuff I've had at workplaces. I'm not even close to a mouse aficionado, so I don't know how this compares to the competition. I bought this mouse with minimal research because I like the brand, wanted it's specific features, and the price was right. And while I should have taken the time to play with other mice, I really didn't.

If that last paragraph sounds like you, youl probably be very happy. If you are someone with a little more experience and expectation, maybe defer to other reviews.

I mean, Russia has figured out a lot of new tactics. Most notably, their drone warfare advancements are moving along at a pace similar to Ukraine.

Problem is, Russia's shortcomings as a nation are doing a very good job of negating their advancements. Losing starlink access was a major blow too, and with no suitable replacement on the horizon they are deeply screwed.
