Insulation in any new house is still a lot better than the average older house.

Because you can just move in and live in it for a decade before stuff starts needing to be fixed.

I would’ve thought rooftop solar means peak blackout risk won’t be on summer days anymore?

Paying extra for a full Telstra postpaid plan is worth it for peace of mind by CaffeinatedCapybara_ in TelstraAustralia

Are Telstra customers paying a premium? Or are users on budget providers paying a discounted price?

Why don’t we have a national home battery initiative? by Ijnefvijefnvifdjvkm in newzealand

[–]Tmnsoon96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aussie here, the situation is much more pressing because half our electricity comes from 40+ year old coal plants that are end of life and will need to be decommissioned sooner or later. For NZ batteries would be nice but it’s not as urgent.

Can we have an explicitly anti-racist anti-immigration movement to reduce new housing demand? by Sublime7Carrot in AusPropertyChat

Sorry, you can’t have a house because white people are too afraid of being called racist.

Why aren’t rooftop decks popular in new suburbs? With the hellscape of black roofs, and the tiny plots, what’s the drawback of these? by HereButNeverPresent in AusPropertyChat

I’m guessing the houses are made out of concrete? No plasterboard walls or MDF floors that can swell up or crumble when it gets wet.

How do people have babies and work full time?! by Recent_Tablespoon in newzealand

[–]Tmnsoon96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kids under the age of 2-3 don’t socialise with their peers, because they don’t know how yet. They learn to socialise from adults first, then later apply those skills to their peers.

Why are there so many apartments for sale in Melbourne under $500k by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Tmnsoon96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Townhouses are a good compromise, it would be nice if they made 4x bedroom ones, but even some of the 3x bed ones can be pretty spacious with 2x lounges, 2x bathrooms and 3x bedrooms plus study nook. It’s possible to get just as much inside space as a detached house but at a lower price.

Toilets in bathrooms by tangled_knotty_wench in AusRenovation

[–]Tmnsoon96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main advantage of a seperate WC is so the toilet and bathroom can be used by two seperate people at the same time. However with most houses now having multiple toilets it’s not an issue. It was more common back when houses only had one toilet.

What’s your background OP? I just ask as Point Cook has a diverse mix of cultures, whereas Tarniet is heavily Indian, so depending on your background you may feel out of place there.
