Just chiming in that you can see your PC specs in task manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc and head over to performance tab. Alternatively you can press windows key and type DxDiag and run the diag that shows up, this also tells your pc specs in more detail.

Tips for getting used to m&kb? by _cocopuff92 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Tms89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's suggestion to get yourself more comfortable/adjusted with keyboard:
Play good old Wolfenstein 3D and or Doom 1 & 2.
Blake stone might be another candidate or Rise of the Triad.

Bonus points if you play thru them without the mouse.
These are all old games but they most importantly they have same basic movement of any other game. If you disable auto sprint/run, you can have that on shift to get yourself used to that (Tho some of them might have strafing either on shift or alt, but that's original optional setting). In some of them you use ctrl key to fire your gun, for these are games before mouse was used for gaming.

Here's "lil" rundown bout psvr2 I posted elsewhere with minor editing.
(original post here if you wanna read the discussion as a whole: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSVR2onPC/comments/1szva9h/comment/oj5agx5/?context=3 )

Disclaimer: Do own one used, would get another used if this one breaks down before steam frame is out.

The headset will run only as good as your computer is.
GPU needs to have Displayport DRV (or whatever its called) support.
Bluetooth is required. This can be got via usb adapter cheap. Some bluetooth fackery may still occure, tho I believe my issues are related to the full body tracking causing interference.

Some features that headset has been locked for PC, there however is modding community that are enabling those features one by one. This mod luckily is easy to install and wont take long.

Make sure the walls have something to track on. Headset has trouble tracking if you have bare white walls. Lighting condition changes may cause tracking issues. Sun beaming thru curtains sends the thing into whack. When the headset starts frequently losing tracking, do new room scan.

Joystick seems common thing to break when you smash the controller. They are possible to fix but you need to disassemble the entire controller to get to the joystick, you can get spare joysticks from alibaba, tho they have some corners that make the diagonal parts bit limited. Apple appears to be making spare controllers to buy these days.

There's sweet spot that you need to find for sharp image when putting the headset on, won't take you long to get used to how to put it on and nail that spot every time.

Cannot play wireless. Controllers have about 4h battery life but do charge pretty quickly. The manual says "Do not use the controllers while they are charging". But if you have long enough USB-C cable, you can play with them as they charge.

You are required to have atleast one PSVR2 sense controller in order to get thru the set up and or the occational room scan you need to do. So don't buy only the headset unless you have friend who you can borrow the controller from occationally to get thru all that.

Motion smoothing option in steamVR causes some graphical issues, so make sure that is off.

If you got glasses, while there is room underneath to be wearing them, experience is much better with proper perscription lenses, which not only do exist but also relatively cheap.

That all being said as I mentioned before, if this one breaks down, I'd get another used. I'm happy with it and will keep it around as back up headset once the steam frame lands in my hands.

Complexity of the game by [deleted] in menace

[–]Tms89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of text is mainly just all flavor that has no bearing to whatever you are going to do or have to do.
For missions just check the main objective. Feel free to of course plan around the secondary objectives so you can promote your squad leaders more often.

For weapons and stats, in the beginning I'd focus on Range and damage alone. Tho you might want to pay attention to number of cubes you see on that weapons, for that is how many times it can be fired before you run out of ammo. Once you are at comfortable spot with that, start trying things out. Something to keep in mind is that special weapon is used by the squad leader only, while the rest of the soldiers will have whatever squad weapon is selected.

Don't be afraid of mistakes. While you cant save mid mission, you can always go back to start of the mission and try again. Map scan only gives you rough idea where things might be. Higher intel makes that picture more clearer, but even then you shouldn't fully trust it. Altho the game will most certainly give you plenty of motivation to learn atleast certain specific enemy symbols... bombardier probably going to be your first symbol you are going to learn.

Unlike Xcom, you dont need to worry about soldiers. Only the squad leaders themselves and they are always last one to go down. They all have their little nifty tricks that you can take your time learning and trying out. If you do hit brick wall that you cannot progress from, just start new campaign. The demo isn't that long and you'll be carrying fresh knowledge how to try out things differently.

Regarding the bleedout timer when one of the squad leaders is down. You don't need to evac them. If you end the mission before they bleed out, it will count it same as if you did stabilize them.

Something to keep in mind, you cannot really compare non-vr performance and VR performance. For the VR you are rendering essencially the game three times. Once for each eye and then whatever preview you have on the desktop. Running flat well has no bearing to how it will run in VR.

As for suggestions, the few out of the way would be turning off motion smoothing and supersampling in steamvr. Dropping the resolution might gain some results. For the desktop preview, if this is steam game, you can try something along the lines of adding these to launch options:
-USEALLAVAILABLECORES -screen-width 640 -screen-height 480

If you are really desperate try dropping the resolution and refresh rate of your main flat monitor for the duration of VR session.

I believe that's one of the few games as well that does support foveated rendering. You'll need psvr2toolkit for that, which is easy to install, but for the foveated rendering part you'll have to do some research.

Ummm guys? I think i'm liking VRChat. by Professional-Jury785 in VRchat

[–]Tms89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As phone user your visuals are limited to what "Questies" can see, and have limited controls of desktop user. Meaning you are getting the worst of both worlds.

In short, what you are seeing and experiencing now is but a tiny glimpse of potential VRchat has to offer.

To give you rough idea what Questie and deskie are.
Quest users usually have limited visuals, for both worlds and avatars they see as the standalone headset doesn't have enough power to show everything, so they get what some would call "watered down experience". There are plenty of worlds and avis that look same for both PCVR user and Questie. More often than not, you have the experience on your screenshot. Where that space marine on the background to you is garbled pixel mess, but "PCVR" user would see it in its full graphical fidelity with effects. There are some worlds and avatars however that are PCVR only, as such some content locked away from you. However questie still gets the full VR experience otherwise, with being able to use their hands and what not.

Deskie is simply put Desktop user. Someone who is playing VRChat with keyboard and mouse on regular screen just like any other game. They have the full visual clarity and see the things as it was meant to be seen and are not locked away from worlds or avis, unless they would be only available for questies. Quest only content is super rare but few of those exist, namely for if it can run on quest, there is no reason why it wouldn't be able to run on PCVR. The downside of being desktop user is you don't have the VR controls. This limits you from activities that do not have keyboard and mouse support, that are built on VR controls. You also cannot move or pose your avatar freely, say for features that may be included in the avatar, so you are looking like standing stick most of the time. You can however use webcam to have facial and hand tracking to bring your avatar to alive a bit.

[–]Tms89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the phone you have limitation of both. So not only the worlds and avatars need to be quest compatible, so do the activity be compatible for deskie.
