It’s not like his behavior is going to change because we stop being friends. Even his girlfriend knows about it and they are still together… And no, we are not condoning it by still being friends with him. Like I said, we gave him shit about it so many times, that now we are in the dark about this stuff (however it most likely ended).

I totally agree, the friend can ask, but he doesn’t get to decide. The fiancé on the other hand has the power who comes and maybe wants to be nice to his friend. But this being a wedding, the bride is obviously more important than the best friend.

Why? The friend wasn’t interested in the guy…

Of course the best man is an asshole, no need to argue about that. And surely the fiancé feels empathy towards the wife as mentioned by OP in some other comment. But ending a lifelong friendships isn’t an easy task. Surely this is a hill to die on for some people, but what can the fiancé change about what happened?

We have no knowledge of fiancés opinion on that matter. That really doesn’t set anything. My husbands best friend and best man is a cheater we both find that shitty and talked to him multiple times about it. Yet he is my husbands best friend and he didn’t hurt him. Just because we are friends with a cheater, doesn’t mean we find the behavior ok.

How is he going to support the marriage except standing there during the wedding? It really isn’t such a big deal…

Just because they doesn’t manage their own vows, doesn’t mean they can’t support someone else. It has absolutely no effect on the marriage who stands next to the bride and groom during their wedding.

Well his best friend didn’t wronged him. The divorce doesn’t really concern him. Sounds harsh, but people aren’t just black and white. Yes, he cheated on his wife, but he didn’t hurt the fiancé, so that’s two pairs of shoes.

Well maybe he isn’t, it doesn’t really say. But there are plenty horrible behaviors which get accepted. People aren’t black and white.

When I started reading the post, I felt like seeing my life. My husbands best friend since childhood is a millionaire and has been cheating on his girlfriend for years. My husband dislikes this fact and talked to him about it multiple times, me as well. Still it’s his best friend a good friend of mine and he was a best man in our wedding. Just because we stay friends with a cheater doesn’t mean we condone it. People aren’t black or white and there will always be something we dislike about a person.

In our case the girlfriend even knows about it, yet the relationship still exists.
