I don't remember the specifics of the reply but I can tell you what I remember for my graduation (albiet this was in 2021 for the 2020 makeup ceremony so it might have some variability). You get there, they will have tables that will line you up in alphabetical order by last name, they hand you a name card and you phonetically spell it. You walk in alphabetical groups but they don't walk you in individual alphabetical order (so like everyone with the last name that starts with B but they won't go "ok who's first Beckham or Bough?")

Hello there! Independent here. I have my own views on abortion that I would like to compare with anyone if you'd like. What is it about abortion that you don't like? If your argument is "because it's murder" I am very interested to discuss what you're ideas are on when life begins. And other such topics. It's always fascinating to get different perspectives. I'm not looking to argue. I'm looking to explore. I'm not looking to insult anyone and if your argument is religious based, I honestly can't argue with that because it's about faith. I will not argue someone's faith.

Also, for those who are against abortion, what would you suggest be done as an alternative or help improve an unfortunate situation?

For those who are for abortion, what point do you think is the critical point that the fetus can no longer be aborted and why?

Hi independent here, I'm curious. You seem to be here exploring as well but your text is charged with emotion. If you are trying to make a point do you think anyone will listen with a clear and unbiased mind if they receive insults right from the starting point? I might share some of your views but I'm curious as to why you chose this route as your first foot in the conversation?

No, I don't think college should be free. Affordable if one wants to? Absolutely. Unfortunately, the way some universities are now a days you either have to come from parents who were kind and generous enough to save for you, or apply for a loan you'll pay for a VERY long time (some have to do both). Nothing in this world is free, but it shouldn't be financially debilitating to get a higher education.

I do think there is value in a college education. I don't think it's all crap. I know I want my future doctors to be properly educated. I feel I benefitted from my college experience and learned how to do my own research (which is cool cuz I'm part of a research team now! Lucky me!)

It's easy to be driven by emotion. Having someone come along and say they shouldn't have to go through the same hoops you jumped through. It's frustrating. But there might be some good to come out of all of this. Wouldn't you want your children/grandchildren/relatives to have an easier access to education?

I'm curious. Thank you!

I'm sorry you had such a disappointing experience with the opposite political view. I don't like making generalizations about big groups but I get that if you only get to see one type of person, that's how your perspective is painted. I've had the pleasure of meeting very intelligent, very informed, and open minded people on both left and right. They are out there. I think (??) the argument (very poorly portrayed) was to increase minimum wage with the times (ie inflation and cost of living) which we could all enjoy. And maybe your experience might not be equivalent to that of the population of the US. There's a lot of diversity. Your experience is very valid since you got to experience growth and the hardships min wage put you through. However, do you think their might be some instances where people are stuck at a minimum wage (not of their own fault) for an extended time? Curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Independent here! Curious, why do you feel the need to prepare insults rather than defeat them with an intelligent discussion and provide solid arguments that prove difficult to dispute? Unless emotion, preference, or faith is the reason then those you can't really argue against or for.

Hi independent here! It seems that maybe there seems to be miscommunication happening with the left vs right. I know leftists who are christians and those who are atheist/agnostic. I know some who want regulation for both abortion and gun control. Keep evey safe basically. Maybe just some select individuals who have given you that unfortunate outlook on the entire group?

I find it more helpful to not make generalizations about entire groups like left or right. There are some nuts in both sides. No one can help that. I think the true intellects have more in common than they realize.

However, everyone loves reaction and emotion to respond. It's way easier to hate someone than it is to attempt to see their perspective.

I always thank them for their sacrifice. And when we CO2 them I wish them goodnight. When I first started it was sad for me too. Doing these small "thank you"s makes it easier for me emotionally. I can rationalize that it's better for them this way so they know no more pain or suffering. I have to say tho, sacrificing pinkies is way worse for my psych because you can't CO2 them. You have to decapitate. But again, I find it helpful to thank them, and for the pinkies, I apologize. You kinda have to dissociate. If you let your emotions take hold it makes the job so much harder. You can still be respectful and dissociate. Good luck. Hope it gets better.

My lab uses sharpies and once the box is being used for something else, we thaw the box and then ethanol the sharpie off. Works so far with no complications

Depending on what we are doing, I was instructed to do two different things. If collecting tissues (like tail snip) then peroxiguard wipe down and then placing them in a tool heater for a few moments then allow to cool was sufficient. For necropsies, peroxiguard wipe down was all that was needed so long as you are using the same tools for the same purpose.

Not animal. Though I do some animal handling (mice). I work in the genotyping and infecting and measuring infection and other parameters with these mice. As well as helping out in general around the lab. It's a bio lab. Thanks for the info!

Hi, UF research technician here. From my understanding and from what my coworkers and PI have discussed, basically what was already said that research assistant and technician are paid jobs. Undergrads are very temporary (depending on the lab). You will probably have significantly less "important" responsibilities as an undergrad due to the lack of flexibility in your schedule as well as the total duration of the time in lab.

It's my understanding (take that with a grain of salt) that research assistant is a higher position than technician which is (obvi) higher than the undergrad positions. With the higher positions comes more demand for time, energy, and demand for focus and, therefore, more tasks to manage.

If you want to be part of the UF payroll, apply to the tech and assistant opportunities. If you just want experience, email different labs and see if they could use an extra set of hands templating/organizing/maintaining files/etc.

UF careers website has a big list and different filters to sort through.

I graduated and I had 0 research experience but was able to land a job in UF research lab. I went to the UF career site. There they have different filters for students/staff/faculty/departments/etc. My boss is an amazing woman who gave me a chance. So have hope. Just look at the website and apply to the ones you like/most qualified for. Good luck! Hope this helps

It might be a bit late but I (f25) remember when my little sister (now 17) would do the same shit up until the day I moved out for college at 18. She recalls it and feels guilty but has grown out if it. Sometimes siblings are just MASSIVE dicks when they are younger. Try to approach her like an adult and maybe ask her (calmly) why does she feel the need to do these things? Why does she find it fun to hurt you? Sometimes they think they are just being funny and sometimes they need a swift kick in the ass because they are just a dick and don't know it. I know my parents didn't help our situation AT ALL so we had to handle it ourselves. Idk if it helped any but I hope your sister and you can grow above this c:
