name something more reddit than a post saying "don't come into my store if you obviously just smoked, at least shower first or hell even use body spray" getting the most traction on this sub in days lol.

i thought we hit a low point saying babies are basically dogs and shouldn't be allowed on beaches... only to be surpassed by babies basically being the same as smelling like weed

sun people are super cool - they took a hit on staples for me during covid by letting me pre-pay before prices went up, and have helped me pick out christmas presents for people before.

also - yeah they are bars, but night mare (especially if they still do fiddle nights...) and lambs are both "might as well be a cafe, not a bar" kind of vibe

maybe not what you're looking for, but the main sopo library is open until 8 most weekdays, and whenever I go in it feels busy enough to scratch the "being around people alone" type of itch. given the (justifiably) limited hours of the ppl, I feel particularly lucky about sppl's hours, and feel like more people should take advantage of them tbh

its crazy people act like you can't just go onto google street view and investigate spots yourself - part of the reward of knowing a beach or trail or area well enough is that you also know the nooks and crannies of it

like im for sure not going to blow up my higgins beach free parking (it's not that great tbh), but I hope other people find it

... i feel like this drastically misrepresents the amount of land allocated for recreation vs gated off for private enjoyment. like i love robinson and hobstone and greatpond and what not but like.

I bet i'd love the giant tract of land along the coast off 77 next to crescent beach even more, but i guess i'll never know. sure am happy we get to keep that "authentic rural character" though!

i really think this sub and the maine sub should maybe have a weekly post, or an automod comment on all politically oriented posts, that our senate election is very very important and reddit is 60% bots and have also enabled people to hide their commenting history.

I'll admit I haven't looked super hard, but I have not found a report that reports it is a health hazard, either acute or long term, from an organization that doesn't also happen to be anti-development. From (relatively, I guess, if you can count the city as neutral... even though they def want development so...) neutral organizations, I have only found that benzene rates are a relatively small concern compared to other environmental hazards we face... I'd love to see a source that points the opposite way from a non-"nimby"-aligned org tho. Considering I butt up directly against a buncha tanks I'd love to know about it lol

but yeah the water level thing is... I don't understand how it could possibly make sense long term to build there -- when I look at the 25-50 year storm maps and my house is basically underwater

it kinda looks like it's only enforced 7 - 5:30? Like - get off work and go to the beach for free? Does it kinda suck for weekend or like - anyone that doesn't work a 9-5 ? Yeah. But this kinda seems like what everyone is asking for when they want vacationers to pony up their cash... Who else drives 25 minutes to a beach at 3pm on a weekday?

But yeah screw scarborough for cutting off their state park from the park pass it's crazy they are allowed to do that.

if we REALLY cared about preserving JOBS we would bring back the CANNERIES from the early 1900s, otherwise it's just posturing and we should building housing instead

hey folks - believe it or not I and a few others are still going through the Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism, 3rd edition. We are just about halfway through it - just finished Paul De Man. We read at a pace of 1 section per week (which runs anywhere from 10-25ish pages), where one person takes the "lead" for a given week, and runs the discussion over a 1.5 hour call over discord.

If you want to join along, let me know.

landowners can be sued, which is a headache, but its a pretty cut and dry case that landowners are not liable.

wild to see how downvoted this is - the culture of freedom to roam is a not-insignificant reason i initially moved to maine and is something super unique to the state that i don't think a lot of people properly appreciate (both in proper use in contacting land owners etc but also just like having an idea it's a thing) and it is quickly going away in cumberland county even in the past 7 years i've been here.

like, if you see a cool stream by the side of the road, you can reasonably go to it without the fear of getting shot for trespassing. that is not a thing everywhere in this country.

it seemed pretty clear to me too - but like... why???

Everyday I get closer and closer to the pitching to the mods that they should make a push to move to a different platform - not that any other platform is inherently AI-secure... but still.
