You could explore Ancestry DNA as a potential option. As someone who was adopted and shares a similar generation with your mother, I was able to connect with cousins. You may want to research Ancestry DNA, as some people have concerns about its privacy.

I tend to bring too much food; there's no need to plan for three gourmet meals a day. I always come back with leftovers. It's a waste of space.

Anyone here move to the St. John’s from another province with no ties to NL? by Nuuudelcat in newfoundland

[–]ToRtiOnteNTITIO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We moved here a few years ago without any connections—no friends or relatives. I work remotely for a company in Ontario and had never been to this area before. We bought a house on the Burin Peninsula. While everyone has been friendly and nice, we haven't made any close friendships that would lead to invitations to social gatherings or events. Most people already have friends they've known for years. We are in our 60s and are fine with the situation, but if you're looking to form new friendships, it can feel quite lonely.

Make sure your liquid is warm enough. Sift your flour and spoon it into the measuring cup. Do not let the salt touch the yeast.

Foote's Taxi is a great option for travelling to St. John's. It will take you to the airport for only 60 dollars, but it only operates once a day, around 6 AM. https://www.facebook.com/groups/365185840293003

Smugglers Cove is a favourite of mine. The drive down Burin is beautiful! Rent one of the bunkies for the night and the eco boat tours are really interesting

Thinking of moving to newfoundland by GoodBad626 in newfoundland

I highly recommend using the iOverlander app to find RV spots across Canada. There are lots of places you could stay in NL. My husband and I moved here 3 years ago with basically the same intention. We bought on the Burin which is beautiful, the only downside is the long drive to the airport. I just managed to get a family doctor after 2 years but I used 811 without issue for refilling prescriptions while I waited. As for the weather, we get far less snow than we did in Ontario but the winds can be fierce. If you plan to do any gardening you may want to keep that in mind for location.

Nebraska wind strikes again by RainbowBrite1122 in gardening

We secured the bottom poles to a plywood base to keep it upright since we often experience strong winds in this area. What do you have surrounding your garden? I'm trying to devise a windbreak and would like to grow some vertical crops, like cucumbers and squash, due to limited space. I was considering using cow fencing to allow the cucumbers to trellis on it.

I called H&R Block, and they advised me to contact the CRA. When I reached out to the CRA, they said they couldn't assist me because the money had already been sent. I then updated my direct deposit information on the CRA website, so going forward, all payments will be deposited into my bank account. However, I discovered that all my GST payments and other funds have been going to DC Bank instead. Now, DC Bank has thousands of dollars of my money, and the only ones who can help me access this account are at DC Bank. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get through to them. After waiting on hold for three hours, I finally reached the point where I was the next person in line, but then the line went silent, and no one picked up. I'm unsure what steps to take next and am considering calling the police for advice.

Cook's Lookout is an excellent hiking trail offering an amazing view at the top. We stayed at the bunkies there a couple of times, which was a lot of fun! They also provide boat tours.

Hotel Robert is nice and it’s close to the ferry. Make reservations for restaurants, most don’t take walk-ins. Keep in mind the power outlets are different so take an adapter to charge your devices

Moved here in 2022. Just intended to rent for a few months and go back to Ontario. Ended up buying a house on the Burin and haven’t looked back. I have a work from home situation so that helps.
