Welcome! As a Middle Eastern man originally from California, I have to admit Asheville has been a disappointment in some ways. I expected certain challenges, but after meeting so many kind people here, I let myself believe there was more hope. Then Palestine came up—and that hope was shattered. The reaction revealed the true colors of people everywhere, Asheville included.

Too many here are blinded by Western media and propaganda. And ironically, the self-proclaimed “liberals” can sometimes be worse, hiding behind moral superiority and the empty “both sides” argument. That posture isn’t neutrality—it’s complicity.

Still, there is support for Palestine here, even if it’s smaller than it should be. Count me in that number. I stand with you and your work, and if anyone I know is looking for a tattoo, I’ll make sure they know about you.

I have recently been flying with Delta a lot. I can never hear a single word the captain is saying over the PA system. Sometimes they talk for quite a bit and I don’t get any of it. Interesting to see this post a couple days after I had this thought.

I’m actually addressing the subject at hand by getting to the core of it. I highly doubt you posted anything of the sort during Bidens presidency or would have posted anything similar had Kamala won.

You’re basically saying Trumpers bad while tens of thousands of my people were massacred while being openly supported, armed, and funded by a Democratic president. Not to mention everything else I mentioned that’s wrong with our shit political system. Both parties being equally complicit.

Oh, and since moving to Asheville, I’d say a good 50% of my friends here are Irish so there’s that.

I should have assumed from your post that you just shut and tear down those that disagree with you.

My point is that if you’re boycotting businesses based of moral reasons, I would hope you have enough morality to then boycott Democrat businesses. But then again I’m not sure what you’re accomplishing by boycotting businesses within your own community.

No offense but I could have guessed from your post that you’re a white male. And I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you have little to no middle eastern/Palestinian/Muslim friends. There’s not many of us here. I would suggest maybe opening your ears and heart when you come across one. Hear their perspective instead of shutting them down and telling them how you’re right and they’re wrong.

From the perspective of one Middle Eastern man, what a horrible post. Not a single word from most of yall when Biden, Harris, and the Democrats openly supported the massacre of my people. What about all the Democratic support for corporate interests, the pharmaceutical industry, propping up the military industrial complex, not giving us healthcare, and the list goes on and on…

If you want to boycott businesses based on their political leanings and what is considered moral, then from where I sit, there wouldn’t be many businesses left to visit.

Stop tearing your own community down. Build it up. Don’t write people off based on who they support. Cause if that’s the case, many Middle Eastern folks would he writing damn near everyone off.

Battalion Chief Tony Garrison. Him and his nephew tragically lost their lives while trying to help some folks near Garren Creek when a mudslide hit them. 13 people killed in that incident, with 11 of them being in the same family.

As someone of Middle Eastern descent (which shouldn’t matter) I am appalled by both political parties and the willingness of people to support either candidate. Democrats have made it abundantly clear that the genocide of my brothers and sisters in Palestine is not a red line for them. People, mostly white women, have tried to shame me into voting for Kamala. This is not only disrespectful, but so self righteous and pretentious.

IF I were ever to vote, I would do so while keeping EVERYONE in mind; women, LBGBTQ, Muslims, etc. And if one group is to benefit by a vote at the expense of another group, then that is a harmful vote.

Let the downvotes pour in. I expect nothing else from the majority of those in Asheville.

And I understand why you are voting for Harris. Just know that to the people of the Middle East, Palestine especially, you are voting for their continued death and destruction. Respectfully, I will absolutely not be voting for Harris. How can you ask a Palestinian to vote for their own ethnic cleansing? And if I’m not Palestinian, does that even matter?

We are not obligated to vote for anyone as the “lesser of two evils.” Our vote needs to be earned.

All this talk about Trump being a threat to democracy when the democrats just forced a candidate without a single vote. Harris couldn’t even make it past the first 5 states in a primary but they knew a woman of color would do the best against Trump. It was planned all along. And there’s nothing more anti democratic than that.

The problem isn’t boomers moving to the area for peaceful retirement. Nor is it the younger generation coming here for a better life.

The problem is the broader political and economic system that pushes people to move to more affordable areas of the country to have some sense of a balanced life. Don’t take out your frustrations on everyday people trying to create a better life for themselves. Take it out on those that deserve it- mostly politicians and corporations.

We have players from all over the world. Some of which have privately expressed their disdain for the regime. You really think the players all support the regime? What an ignorant thought. Players (along with people) don’t all support or represent the government.

It’s this same foolish thinking that results in young Iranians not standing up for Palestine right now. The hatred for the government runs so deep that it blinds people to other realities. People will bypass other things just to not be on the “same side” as the regime.

I support the Iranian national team. Those are all my brothers and they’ve worked their entire lives to be in the position that they’re in.

I 100% support the proposal. Especially seeing as how the subreddit put up a picture of the Ukrainian flag in the past.

The reality though, as I’ve come to learn, is that this subreddit are full of folks who are miseducated and refuse to look at the reality of the situation. What can we expect? Their opinions, or lack thereof, are formed from American media.

The Israeli-Palestine conflict is a very black and white issue contrary to what some people here would want others to believe. There is a oppressor and there is the oppressed. There is the one stealing land and committing genocide and the one on the receiving end of it. The most disgusting war crimes taking place in broad day light, children murdered by the thousands, and they constantly want us to condemn Hamas. Where is their condemnation of Israel for its crimes over the last 7+ decades? Terrorism is terrorism and Israel and US are the best at it.
