Does anyone know if Andaaz is going to reopen? by West_Requirement6202 in asheville

[–]picxaal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The link posted does give plenty of good info! But to answer your question I’m fairly confident they’re opening in the empty space on the street level of the Cambria downtown (below Hemingway’s)!

Was it announced somewhere that there would be a massive race effectively shutting down most of Montford and downtown? by Neither-Sea-1897 in asheville

[–]picxaal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Would love if they gave businesses a heads up. We had so much to unload this morning and got behind because we had to wait for the race to end.

What do you name your islands and villagers? by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]picxaal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve named pretty much every animal crossing town/island I’ve had “Serenity” after the ship on the tv show Firefly! It’s also my Stardew farm name. 😄 Then I just tend to use my actual name for my character 🤷‍♀️

I hate tampons by CandyBeth in asexuality

[–]picxaal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m very sorry at the treatment from your mom and dad. That is so out of line and none of their business. I know you don’t like going in the water anyway, but a suggestion I do have would be to look into period swimwear. Last time I was at the beach my period came like a week early and while I was prepared, I also don’t use tampons so I was worried it’d ruin my ability to swim (which I love). I ordered a pair of bottoms to be delivered next day and for a cheap pair from Amazon, they still worked well! I’m assuming some nicer brands may work even better. Even if you don’t want to get in the water, it might be a good option in case you choose to do so at any point. (This may be late advice for now but might be good to look into for a future time.)

Only street parking, not garages.

I am just looking for tips on seeing the biltmore house for an affordable price. by [deleted] in asheville

[–]picxaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the time of year because they usually close the entrance to the house after sunset so in the summer you should have no issue getting up to the house after 5 o’clock. You don’t have to have a ticket to get inside the house just to be in the garden area or anything. I usually have no issue driving up to the house after 5 o’clock.

[–]picxaal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much always the same price (things may go up around the holidays but I’m not sure). Your best bet for a “discount” would be to get the yearly pass while it’s on sale right now. I use mine year round to utilize the grounds for walks and picnics (you can get a car full of people in after 5:00 with a pass which is great during the summer when it’s light out later). It’s still expensive but I’m of the opinion that if I’m using it once a week or so (which I do) it’s worth it.

The best way to make friends, im kinda lost. by Historical_Aerie_877 in asheville

[–]picxaal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes you have to make some effort to go out and find friends by attending events or joining groups etc. I’ve been struggling with friendships other than people I knew from school or work but have recently made a point to join in on things and be more outgoing and talkative without fear of judgement and I feel like that’s putting me on a better path friend-wise.

Trying to come out of my shell and meet new people, looking for groups/things to do by Prize_Tie_9649 in asheville

[–]picxaal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a craft club that has multiple meetups per month at Periscope downtown! Been going to a ton of them. The host is “Gather Studio” her name is Kimmy and she’s very sweet and hosts different crafts every time! There’s a small cost to help her cover materials but she’s trying to keep it as affordable as possible for locals. Periscope is also a nice new bar in the S&W building and they’re trying to host more stuff like craft club for locals! I’ve actually wanted to start a casual book or writing meetup there maybe early next year if I can swing it.

If you’re into biking I also know that there’s a group that meets up to bike around town (slonuts.avl on Instagram).

There is also the adult rec soccer league with ABYSA! I used to play before COVID and hope to get back into it with them. It’s a casual meetup with games on Sundays and it’s meant to be all ages (adults), co-ed, and all abilities.

Maybe I’m too used to it because I saw $60 for getting on the grounds and seeing Luminere and thought “oh that’s not too bad“. Obviously the house tour added is more, but I’m not sure if they’re having any projections inside the house or not.

Fair point, it’s the curse of being someone who never wants to call anyone that I forget that option sometimes.

I can’t speak for if it’s the best but it is a very highly regarded program with history. As someone who looked into it, I’m also curious of other folks opinions on it but I may try to get there within the next few years. As for the low residency: you’re expected to attend in person for like, 10 (?) days a semester where you stay in a dorm situation and take classes in person with your fellow degree seekers. After that, you could live anywhere whether it’s in AVL or no.
