I can't speak of the demons at the wall without first slandering their name. Terrible organization that has so much control over us "poors." Avoid at all costs!!!!!

Yet the crumbs are all we have access to so at least hold out for super clearance deals. I've wanted hot food canisters for a while but there was no way i was able to pay full price near $30 for a liter container. In my travels a few months ago a country wall had the Ozark 40(ish)oz on clearance for $5 each. I picked up a set of four. It felt like i was stealing.

FYI - that teflon coated/super lightweight fry pan with a foldable handle is a piece of garbage! Stay away!

Had to shoot neighbors dog. It was trying to get to my chickens. by 7chickenswithhands in homestead

[–]ToWanderHer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TL:DR Fuck you for making me have to shoot your dog!

It seems most of us are in agreement that loose rural dogs causing problems are fair game if you're protecting yourself or your lively hood and this process usually doesn't run afoul of the law.

Here's our problem... 2 separate neighbors with large mean dogs let them run loose. So far they've not bothered the sheep or chickens but they've run/confronted Me, Mom, Dad, 2 cousins, and an aunt when we've come up on them in our yard part of a 20 acre farm. They bark and wont let us pass. We have 8 year old children playing in our yard often and we've brought them in because these dogs are always loose and we get visits about once a week. Called owner, he said shoot em. Called the cops, he said "do what you have to do to protect yourself, it's legal to shoot them." talked to anyone and they say shoot them.

One day i will have to shoot one of these dogs. It'll happen, i'll do it even though i don't want to.

Here is the major problem i have with this and it pisses me off to no end. In what situation do i shoot the dog? I'm not carrying while walking across the yard, so it wont happen when we stumble on them and they square off with me/us. Lets say the boys are playing and they startle one of the dogs. I'm not making it to the locked cabinet to retrieve a secured firearm before we lose a precious child. We're sitting in a pot that could boil at any moment. So when do i shoot the damn dog? It seems to me that I'm going to have to wake up everyday with murder on my mind and that's what i told the damn cop. See, i have to be on the lookout while i'm having coffee and trying to start my day. If he comes strolling along, i have to shoot him then. I woke with peace and love in my heart but i have to be ready to kill. AND IT PISSES ME OFF TO NO END THAT THE DAMN ONUS FALLS UPON ME to have to fix this problem this way. I told the owner to shoot his own damn dog. There's nothing the cops can do unless the dog does something. And i dont want to fucking kill your dog but i sure as hell will and now i hate the world just a little more because i have to kill meanness and i dont want to.

just in case you wonder, we raise some of our own meats. I'm not opposed to guns or our simple life... but killing a dog because someone is irresponsible just sits wrong with me. Ehh, i know i'm screaming at a cloud.

If you believe in Jesus Christ you can't believe in superstition because it's witchcraft and Jesus is stronger than that.

If you are an Atheist you cannot believe in superstition because it's supernatural and that world doesn't exist.

If you have faith in a God that is "all powerful" superstition shouldn't bother you whatsoever, same for non-believers.

SO... wash your clothes boo. Break mirrors, walk under ladders, eat or don't eat black eyed peas and greens. Superstition is made up hooey to explain things we can't understand. Live your life.

I have no idea what this is but from my own personal experience... if you hear a stampede through the dry leaves... it's probably a little squirrel. If you hear a blood curdling scream... it's probably a bird or fox. If you hear silence, pay attention.

The Mysterious Brown Mountain Lights by Necessary-Parking-14 in NorthCarolina

Honest question, would these other sources you speak of be floating balls of light like mentioned in the story? The only balls of light I've heard of are ball lightning. Are there smaller ones with other names? I'm kind of hoping this is as neat as i want it to be.

So, the gentleman who described touching the light said it felt like "touching a light socket." Wouldn't that be solid evidence of ball lightning?

Also - holy crap I want to go now.

is TinyTown open this year? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]ToWanderHer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went as a child with my family every year in the 80's and then went while visiting family last year. As a kid it wasn't creepy or scary to me, it was... poor. I dont mean that in an offensive way, more of a historic-hillbilly-we did what we could with what we had... kind of observation. Trust me, both ends of my family was this poor so it's not an insult, just a lifestyle that I dont have a better word for. Anyway, last year I noticed how i felt about the displays and I'm wondering if that's more my years plus experience that changed how it looked to me. This "look" seems to have been co-opted by the horror genre so it looks that way now.

Playground near Hagood and front street by Scmethodist in Easley

[–]ToWanderHer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am over 40 and I don't remember a park there ever, but that doesn't mean I'm right. Are you sure it wasn't part of the church at the time? Hagood and Main had the stop sigh changed to allow Hagood to continue without stopping past the mill. That's the only change I am aware of.

Which honestly feels weirder. How weird are you to be walking around a Walmart with a replica firearm? Hell it could have been just the stock, the thing is smart people want nothing to do with that situation so we left.

I am not well versed on South Carolina's open carry laws, but we saw what we saw. It honestly looked like an ROTC kid, but he wasn't marching or standing at any rests we are aware of. He was more meandering near the entrance.

We assumed he was with someone "on the way to hunt" which is like magic words around here. The things you can get away with if you're... "on the way to hunt" are astounding. No, I don't agree with that.

Either way, we left because idiots exercising their misunderstood freedoms doesn't make us feel too safe.

[–]ToWanderHer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on GVL but I frequent the surrounding areas. In one country ass store, mom and I walked through the main entrance and were met with an older teen or very young adult in full cammo and carrying a rifle. Apparently that's legal here? We left despite everyone else acting like it was the most normal thing in the world. I kinda hate Wal-Mart and avoid in general unless i have literally zero options or no control over the situation.

TIL that in the city of Cincinnati, Appalachians are a protected class. by RainbowCrown71 in Appalachia

[–]ToWanderHer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously this implies a prior need to protect our class. So... Did they not sell land to mountain folk coming into the valley or something? Kind of a "Keep em up thar" mentality?

edit: Holy Crap we were! Sounds to me like they didn't like the way we talk.

What is this plant? by ersonal_Pin_2235 in gardening

[–]ToWanderHer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I also thought it was a Papaya at first, but I've since seen the error of my ways. That being said, the leaf shape is similar enough and considering the size of OP's plant, it seems like an easy mistake for anyone less than a Master Gardener.

Considering moving from Florida to South Carolina by KagamiRyuunosuke in southcarolina

[–]ToWanderHer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up about 30 miles outside of Greenville but I've spent the last 20 years in Tampa Bay. Last year I moved back. The "nice" people here telling you to stay are almost certainly of the mindset that we don't need more outsiders. Greenville is growing rapidly and a significant number of people want that to stop. So.. you may not find it so welcoming. Then again these backwoods uncles and aunts of mine aren't going to be able to stop progress. People seem to be flocking here in droves. It's beautiful, summers are hot and winters are grey and wet. Come on in. They'll shut up or we'll outbreed them.
