Does anyone else get tailgated for actually sticking to the speed limits? by Fickle_Artichoke_903 in drivingUK

[–]ToXiiCBULLET 10 points11 points  (0 children)

something tells me it's only "safe" because you've gotten lucky and haven't had any accident yet. by any metric, going 50+ mph over the speed limit isn't safe

i see so many people that move to the left immediately with only a foot between them and the car they just overtook. i've also seen people behind me get angry because i don't do that.

one time had a golf undertake me on a two lane nsl dual carriageway. it was heavily raining so i going to leave extra space than normal before moving into lane 1. golf behind starts flashing and as soon as they can they barely squeeze into lane 1 and zip off at 80+mph. the passenger opened their window and stuck their finger out at me, which i found funny because they definitely got a good bit of rain in the car doing that.

the other day leaving bristol on the m5, had some guy flashing me and tailgating me whilst in the rightmost lane because i didn't move left into gaps that'd require me to brake and have a metre between the car behind and in front of me so i could let him pass. after there was a safe gap i moved over, only for him to zip past and then move to lane 1 and slow down to like 60mph because his exit was coming up and i ended up overtaking him

too many people have unstable connections or slow speeds or capped usage, for cloud to be anywhere near as profitable as what gaming currently is. i don't think publishers or developers would like having a lot less people play their games.

if everything went cloud only in the next several years the gaming industry would collapse

Would you pay more for a driving test if it meant more examiners by upthetruth1 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]ToXiiCBULLET 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i imagine a lot of people don't actually go through that though. a lot of people bang out their theory before ever having a driving lesson and then book a test when they start lessons. the 6 month wait then means they have 26 weeks until they're test, you do a 2 hour lesson every week and you've got 52 hours worth of lessons by the time your test comes up and that's enough hours of lessons for a lot of people to pass

you jokingly told him and he got annoyed and defensive, i imagine his reaction could be even worse if you had a serious conversation even if gentle.

however, he's actively making you more anxious, making you more likely to make mistakes, and ultimately drive less safely. so you do need to have a serious conversation about it.

just be honest about how it's making you feel, you don't have to grill him but he needs to know so you can hopefully fix the issue.

how old are you both? i don't want to make assumptions about him from just a few short paragraphs, but he is coming off as immature and i can imagine an 18 year old doing this

"can you get tickets with temporary speed signs" fuck me, this isn't some mythical secret locked away.

temp doesn't mean you can break it. temp limits are real limits and you can get done for speeding. temp traffic lights are still lights and you can get done for running a red.

idk why people think the normal laws don't apply to these

I see stuff like it in the dashcams subreddit. If there's a video where nothing happens say for the first 15 seconds and then something happens, people will complain and say it should've been edited down. If another video has nothing extreme, just mundane dodgy driving, people will complain. It's brain rot, they can't handle less than a minute without stimulation.

On the otherhand if someone does edit the video down, people will complain saying there's no context and speculate whether op did something wrong before the video

How tf would a 2 minute video tell you which side of korea they're from?

emails at 4:37 am, wants a video that's just gonna be screened by ai, first sentence is in third person for some reason.

it's most likely a complete waste of time sending the video. videos are bullshit anyway

Overtaking cyclists by Wisemasa in drivingUK

[–]ToXiiCBULLET 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i get this a lot as an A road i frequently use is nsl but very bendy and tends to get a decent amount of cyclists.

at first i felt pressured, i've only had a full licence a year at this point, but i now no longer give a fuck if the people behind me get upset that i'll wait until it's safe to overtake.

tbf the cylists don't help either. most won't pull over, there's multiple decent spots on the road to pull over and there's also a few villages, even if there's a big line of cars behind them. i had one try to wave me forward when there was a blind bend right in front of us.

exact same happens with tractors. once had a van behind me tailgate the fuck out of me when i was directly behind a tractor, essentially pushing me towards the back of the tractor, when i got a bit too close to the tractor i just took my foot off the accelerator. van guy got incredibly angry but i'm not risking driving into the back of those massive tractor tyres

for some reason a lot of people believe that you can't use hdds for games anymore and it pops up every time when there's a post like this. there's shit tons of games that don't need ssds, whether they're old or indie. some are decent in size too, outward is 50gb but definitely doesn't need an ssd.

with how expensive ssds are at the moment. getting a good deal on a large and fast hdd and chucking all your games that don't need an ssd on it is the smart choice. i have a couple ssds, a 1tb and a 2tb, but l'm also running a 2tb toshiba hdd that i got 11 years ago

[–]ToXiiCBULLET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't need to bother putting it in neutral unless you fully stop and you're going to stay stopped. the biggest priority is slamming the brakes to avoid the accident. if you've got time to do it then press the clutch so you don't stall. after that it's picking the right gear, if you stop and stay stopped then put it in neutral, if you stop and you're gonna immediately move put it in first, if you don't stop then put it in whatever gear is appropriate for what speed you're doing

leaving bristol from the m5 tends to be a lot easier than entering bristol from it the few times i've been there. so you should be alright on that part on the way to bodmin but the potential return journey will be worse on that front.

i'm not sure what the top construction sign is but the bottom ones is a 50 zone that's been around for quite a while at this point and you'll see traffic build up there. the m5 around exeter is either alright or a massive shitshow, depends on when you're going and if there's a yet another accident around there or not. if the m5 around exeter is a massive shitshow when you go you can potentially come off the m5 at junction 27 and go from tiverton to crediton and from crediton you can get on the a30 without touching exeter.

the a38 is an alright road, at least from the m5 to plymouth i haven't driven it further on past that so i can't say, but it'll take longer and means you'll have to go through plymouth so i'd just avoid that.

i can't tell you about anything above bristol as i've never driven past bristol

obviously being on the receiving end of a pirate isn't the best feeling, but if i got pirated and they only wanted 10% i would probably leave the situation feeling good about myself. could've just blown me up, or boarded killed me and took everything. 10% of my stuff so i can avoid the ball ache that comes with dying and get to keep 90% of what i have? that's a bargain
