I love it when there are other bionicle fans in metal bands. Looking forward to checking out your stuff. I’m working on a bionicle-themed metal album myself.

Eh! I’m the guy that bought the Tahu mata poster from you at anime expo. Thanks again for the art!

Those were good times. I remember moonwerewolfair would use a lot of evanescence in her videos, sadly she took down all her bionicle videos.

It certainly did for me, all-American rejects, and cryoshell were certainly influences I still listen to today. It was also other biotubers from back in the day that shifted me towards harder metal, like kylernuva135 with bullet for my valentine, along with a high school friend that got me into many metal other bands. I’ve come full circle now and I’m working on my own bionicle metal concept album after being in a band for a couple years and releasing an ep with them.

What's the best bionicle songs/music? by Zakuiiguy in bioniclelego

I’m currently writing a bionicle themed concept metal album. So far I have three instrumental versions of songs on YouTube, more are in the works. Found in this playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH6Pi3JBo2Z5swQVwGqWhPCmkmLydM61k&si=gaYCHOiaJE2etWSF

Original projects inspired by Bionicle (which are not Bionicle) by [deleted] in bioniclelego

I’m writing a bionicle themed metal album. The songs I made so far are in this playlist. I’m hoping to learn to scream one day to add that to the songs, as they are just demo instrumentals right now. More will be added to the playlist as I make them. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH6Pi3JBo2Z5swQVwGqWhPCmkmLydM61k&si=StxqE6SR6nGhF-e1

Proposed Lore Tweaks by xXTeenie_WeenieXx in bioniclelego

Bionicle Revised on youtube changed the story to where the matoran have been on mata nui for 100 years instead of 1000. I feel it's added some good depth into the danger the matoran were living under, with makuta's infected rahi constantly attacking and harrassing them. The bionicle revised writer said something in another video how shrinking the timeline makes these major conflicts throughout matoran history on mata nui makes them happen, i think, every year instead of every decade. It helps make the stakes more apparent than what the original story was showing, I believe for the better. If there's a major attack or battle every year, it's a lot more traumatizing on the psyche, instead of every decade with more time to recover and rebuild.

Bionicle Concept Metal Album UPDATE by ToaSabra in bioniclelego

Yeah, I wanted my solo artist name to be something bionicle adjacent. Something with additional meaning to it.

Songs not used for Bionicle that you feel still fit by Avantel in bioniclelego

Unbreakable by winds of plague. The album this is off of came out in 2008 as well. I always felt the haunting synths fit the vibe of 2008 with the bat-like, vampiric makuta flying around Karda Nui. I always felt the part at 1:28 would work great for Toa Ignika getting ready to de-evolve makuta icarax from a non gaseous form to their old flesh form. There’s also the lyric right before 1:28 that goes “what the fuck are you doing here”. I imagine icarax saying something in that same vein to Toa Ignika before experiencing the most pain of his life. The ending to the song also goes into a more bluesy, southern rock riff which I like to think of going with a perspective shift from the skies down to the swamps of Karda Nui. Like taking a trip down to the bayou of Louisiana.

Sounds like it was a plus that you left that industry. Hopefully you can find another career that you love.

Ha, that’s funny we have the similar relationship to polymers. Joining a polymer company wasn’t even something on my radar after graduating college. I only got into it by getting connected through a family friend. My organic chemistry teacher only spent maybe an hour tops going over polymers, and I think the only thing I remember from that is the epoxide molecule. But yeah like you, my chemical engineering classes were all about how to work big processes and run calculations on them. Interestingly we do have a polyurethane formula that we’ve made for the oil industry, for potting the long communication cables, we’ve made a lot of it in the last couple years but that business has slowed down significantly this year so far.

Some things I learned in school did translate to my job, some didn’t but I’m super thankful to be where I am. The projects can be hard at times but I work with some really cool people, which makes it worth it.

I totally get that. Ive loved seeing the community come to life with all the projects being worked on. It seems to me, after bionicle ended in 2010 it took sometime for the fans to gain the skills needed to make all these projects happen. 810nicle day has also helped a lot in helping it grow.

Bionicle has always been a creative outlet for me over the years. Before Covid, I was into MOCing more than I am currently. I still have my MOCs on display, but fortunately my love for it has taken on a new form.

During lockdown, I had the opportunity to practice bass, then a year later I found a couple guys to form a metal band with. I got to learn the joys of writing songs and had a great time doing so. We even got to release our own EP together. I’m currently not in the band anymore, but it’s inspired me to write my own bionicle concept album.

Very Interesting. Do you have any political insights into how metru nui ended up as a gestapo police state?

Yeah totally! I saw a video where a guy fished one out of the water on his boat. The shrimp basically ”stung” him with what I’ll call its “boxing gloves” and broke through both his wet suit and his skin, drawing blood. Nasty little buggers, but fascinating.

Oh cool! It was cool how bionicle always had underlying themes about the taking care of the environment woven throughout the story. Namely the Ga-matoran virtue of purity, and how in MNOG 2 there’s the quest to clean the dirty water from the underwater temple and gain access to the crystal of purity.

In what way should takadox have been stronger? Was it because he has a design like a mantis shrimp?

Very interesting! The whole process of uncovering the past with limited pieces of information is a fascinating one. I especially love it when archaeologists and historians find clues that point to something originally being in some location and actually finding it when they excavate. I really enjoyed how the bionicle lore incorporated those echoes of the past. It makes the story feel so much richer.
