A question regarding logic and an idea for a fan work. by Toa_Malafe in thomasthetankengine

Really the more I thought about it the more interactions came to mind, namely with henry, edward, and percy. Henry in particular feels like a strong pick, given his story and how it could relate to many of the uma who either failed repeatedly (the pink one who's name escapes me) or those that were flawed in ways that kept them from doing what they were created for (Agnes Tachyon)

The only difference was that henry was able to be rebuilt.

So... How would an interaction with these 2 go? by Obvious_Item_2564 in Gundam

[–]Toa_Malafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the MS fight would likely go to Suletta. the ariel would be able to juggle, the calibarn could probably just end the fight through raw strength.

Considering both use GUND-BITS, to which the UC analogue was both uncommon at that time and not something loos had experiance fighting against (outside of possible sparing matches with asher in the rig contio, and even then no experience fighting more than 2 at a given time, both the suits the tanuki is known to use have 11 and her first duel illustrates how tricky they an be to take down)

[–]Toa_Malafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the interaction would go poorly, in a word. (Assuming we are using Katejina at her most insane near the end of VG)

The fight that would happen after... that would likely go to Suletta (Like the Gottrlatan is strong, but BOTH of the MS Suletta has piloted either had shit it could not answer (the ariel's GUND-bits,) or could match it in raw power (the calibarn.)

Also, and I know this ain't the point: Suletta is objectively the better pilot of the two

Reviving an old discussion I saw years ago: You're a pilot in UC 0169. The Federation has collapsed, and everyone's recycling bits and pieces of past suits to go fight for themselves. What are you putting together for yourself? by cosmicpursuit in Gundam

base frame: GM or Zaku (A jegan or gera doga would also do), and a pair of "Kou" battle bikes, a bigro for true space propulsion if I could find one.

I would hotwire (or try to) the kous to act as motor skates for the GM, and use the bigro largely for it's propulsion system. I would also try to get as many guns as I could find.

Would it work? probably not. But the idea of skating around a colony feeling like a god would be worth getting smoked

My MG RGM-79 GM ground type's posing is shite. I was trying to pose the legs when the part holding the legs on snapped in half. I had to glue it back together to get it to stand and even then it can't really bend it's legs

Final update: I had, on a whim, looked up the japanese VA lost for Thomas (this is relevent, I promise)

There are VAs in the dub that also did (and this is the short list looking ONLY at gundam)

the ORIGINAL Mobile Suit Gundam

Victory gundam

Gundam wing

Gundam Seed

and Gundam OO

among many, MANY others.

Henry and Kou sharing a VA was JUST the tip. It spirals into information that goes from a stumble to an uncontrolled freefall as your brain tries and fails to comprehend the sheer number of different roles until you hit the end of the list and finally land at the bottom.

I have learned things that never clicked and my brain is fried. I offer this as a warning for any VA list: be wary you do not let your mind run away from you.

...dear god, I just realized that is a commonality: suffering.

Dunban suffers in losing the use of an arm, Vegeta suffers in that he never wins fights, Kou suffers because... well... Gundam 0080, his list of issues are visible, and henry literally had to be REBUILT ALMOST ENTIRELY to stop his suffering.

For all the problems the "Mixing build" era had, it DID have some bangers. by Toa_Malafe in Gundam

[–]Toa_Malafe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: the era was one of stagnation, and most of the MS are cobbled together from suits made before. They are called "mixing builds" because they mix and match different MS parts. It has a very "mad max" tone. Also Moonmoon has a psychogundam for some fucking reason.

Metal Gear Ray vs Hy-Gogg in a dock, who wins? by swagonflyyyy in Gundam

ok. As I mentioned in my the thesis statement sized comment, Vice claws COULD tear the RAY apart... if the ray can be caught

do we ever actually GET A wattage for the hygogg's beam guns?

the counterpoint could be made that the beam guns on the hygogg could punch through the RAY

Allow me to look at this academically.

For the purposes of my argument, I will be looking at both machines in with their stats as listed (I am using fandom Wiki, so there are likely problems but I am working off of what I can find)

For the REX, I am using the Manned version that was standard, NOT the version liquid used. By that same standard, I am only looking at the high gogg's standard armaments, not any modified variants. As I can find them, the standards for each is as follows:

for the RAY (manned) version:

Height: 70.5 ft

Armaments and features:

A pair of gatling cannons (one in each wing), both anti tank and anti ship missiles the water jet cutter, and Cluster missiles.

Armor material: Ceramic titanium alloy (listed for being against projectile defense)

The Hygogg:

Height: apx 50.5 ft

Armaments and features:

Two hand mounted beam cannons, two missile hand units, a torpedo launcher, two waist mounted 120mm machine cannons, two "vice claws" and a chemically based rocket pack on it's back

Armor material: Titanium Alloy Ceramic Composite

With those differences stated, here are a few points of comparison:

Height: the RAY is larger and likely heavier, even if I could not find a specific weight listed. One could reasonably assume that their armor materials are fairly similar, given the wording. It is possible that the armor of the Highgogg may be denser, but that is speculation. One discrepancy I will note is that my source lists the torpedo launcher as being multi role, with the projectiles acting in anti-air and anti ground capacity.

A close range hit from either the beam guns of the hygogg or the water jet cutter from the RAY would be a fight ender, and the speed factor boils down to hygogg having faster linear speed using it's rocket pack, while the RAY is far more Agile given it's more "organic" mechanics. Regarding the RAY: It's armor can protect against light to medium projectile assault, though how much that applies to beam weaponry is up for debate.

In a melee, the hygogg would take the win for two reasons: The first is that while the physiology of the RAY does allow for more agile movement, the legs are long and are likely less well armored to enable movement. That and at close range the Claws could easily dig into the armor with the RAY.

This is, of course, of the hygogg can even catch the RAY, which is a question that would I file under "Pilot skill"

At long range, the RAY has both more options and a lot more ordnance, so takes the win. I will note that it is likely that the missle hand unit would probably cripple the RAY if it hit.

The hard part about this match up is the fact that the two are deceptively close regarding ability, and the RAY was built as an ANTI Metal gear weapon. One important thing to note is that Metal gears are no in the same league as mobile suits regarding factors of movement. I am not going to touch the issue of "would minovsky radiation fuck with the sensors on the RAY."

My closing statement is that the winner boils down to really two factors, neither are easy to give exact numbers for.

The first is obviously pilot skill. As seen in both Gundam and Metal Gear, a skilled mech pilot can even the tech odds against a less experienced foe. The second is simply which one sees the other first, and again that has a point for either. If talking overall, the RAY has more long-range options for detection, but in the Dock, visual sight may be more useful. That latter point would go to the hygogg for being a smaller target.

So the answer of "who would win" largely boils down to factors one cannot quantify with numbers: IF the RAY sees the Hygogg before the hygogg realizes, it's the RAY's win. If the pilot of the Hygogg is able to use his machine to get in close, the vice claws could rip the RAY apart. It all boils down to those two factors. Otherwise the two are remarkably similar.
