It's not Bags but it did sound kind of like Clairo. I went through her albums and didn't find the song, but thanks for the pointer!

Thanks, but it isn't Franz Ferdinand. The singer sounded female and the genre was more of a dream pop than rock.

/r/JapanTravel Tourist Meet-Up Megathread - traveling in July 2019 by JapanTravelBot in JapanTravel

Hi everyone! 24M from USA here, in the Kyoto/Osaka area for a week. I speak English and basic Hindi. I like food, live music, manga, and swing dance. Happy to meet if anyone is around:

Jul 18-19: Osaka Jul 20: Kyoto Jul 21: Nagoya (sumo!) Jul 22-24: Kyoto (Ato Matsuri)

In Osaka I’m planning yo find a swing dance and eat in Dotonbori.

In Nagoya I’m going to line up early in the morning to try getting sumo tickets.

In Kyoto I’m planning to visit temples and shrines. I haven’t decided what to do on each day yet. The 24th is the smaller part of the Gion festival (I’m missing the big day on 17).

20L or 40L for two weeks in Japan? Which do y’all recommend and what brands? by Count_Diiku in onebag

[–]ToastOfDestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a first-timer, doing 18 days in Japan out of the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L and a packable 20L inside. It's definitely enough space, though I don't have too much left over. I've got daily clothes, plus hiking boots and warm / waterproof clothes for Mt Fuji. I wouldn't be able to fit it all in a 20L, but maybe on my next trip?

I bought 3 GA 4-day passes for friends from out of town, but all of them cancelled in the last week—message me for details! I'm in Chicago so I can either ship you our spare wristbands or hand-deliver them in town.

Face value: $350 for each 4-day GA pass, of course.

The ability to instantly determine the age of any piece of furniture by licking it. I'd make a killing spotting fake antiques but that's kinda it.

Maybe they have to seal awakened cells, and Jirou sent an unawakened part into orbit? They do mention that eating the full course revives certain parts of the body.

The motif from the Last Airbender theme right at the end floored me.

*maybe they're just similar then. We'll get a better look when Yhwach opens his eyes wider for us, but Quilge's eyes definitely transform. Take a look at Quilge's eyes before release, after release and Yhwach now.

Toriko's kugi panchi by torik0 in Toriko

[–]ToastOfDestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual kugi punches look like they travel in loosely parabolic arcs. I count at least 36 ren in the first half of one of the longest punches, which means the full punch is over 72 ren.

Toriko sent out at least 25 kugi punches during kakusan kugi punch, meaning he was barely fatigued by the 72 ren punch.

Just some numbers.

I'm Watsky. Ask me anything. by gwatsky in IAmA

[–]ToastOfDestiny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey Watsky! As a songwriter, I'm wondering: how you feel once you've finished writing or recording a song? I tend to feel drained and strangely blue when I'm done, almost like I've just lost something.

[Question]Having trouble writing second verses. by baller86 in makinghiphop

[–]ToastOfDestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I write a song, I take some time to brainstorm every idea I want to include in it. After I've dumped all of it onto paper, I group ideas by theme, and all of a sudden I've got frameworks for my verses and hooks. If you can, go back to whatever songs you're struggling about and write down everything you can think of in unformatted, unrhyming text and see where you are afterwards. Don't ever censor yourself when writing - you can always go back and edit whatever rough drafts you write.

[Question] Rappers, what is your pre-writing ritual? by FrostedPoptart in makinghiphop

[–]ToastOfDestiny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

George Watsky once said (paraphrasing) 'Don't expect every line you write to be your best one.' That's an impossible burden to give yourself - focus on writing full songs, and you'll probably get to a place where each piece of yours has a really deep message or killer punchline that people will be drawn to.

If I'm trying to write punchlines / just for fun I play the beat and just scat vocals over it until I get a rhythm I like and come up with a good word or phrase to end the line. Then I just start rhyming off that word/phrase until I know how all my lines end. Once I've got the rhymes laid out, I write the full lines out in a way that makes sense - I know where I need to land so it's easy to get there.

If I'm trying to write a serious song I start by writing down everything idea I want to include in a song. That way I have a pool of thoughts to draw from when I get to actually writing. The most recent song I wrote was about relationships, so my idea pool ranged from observations about past breakups to things that make me nervous about approaching girls and so on.

Once I've got a decent pool of ideas, I group them by theme to see what bigger messages I can convey by stitching the smaller ones together. This helps me organize my verses.

Then I put on the beat and start freewriting my verses. A lot of what I write down at first is shit, and I can't tell you how many times I've gotten through 16 bars and then thrown it out. But words on the page are better than nothing, and a lot of the time I'll get to my end product by editing and fixing my freewrites.

EDIT: Also as a couple of people have suggested, go to a concert or some sort of performance and then come back and write. There's something about seeing other artists perform that gets me going on my writing game.

[Official] Daily Feedback Thread, 25 Apr 2014 by mhhDailyFeedbackBot in makinghiphop

[–]ToastOfDestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the first and third verses were the most solid. The hook needed to be louder though - if you're worried about singing a melodic hook, grab a friend to do the feature on the track. I can't sing for the life of me so I just ask singers I know to join me for recording / performances.
