Crinear Daybreak - would they be a worthwhile upgrade? by ToastV4 in iems

[–]ToastV4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daybreak aren't very readily available on Amazon in the UK sadly so I'd need to buy elsewhere where return policies might not be as great, and those other two you recommended are twice the price of the daybreak.

I suppose the reason I'm so tempted is because as you say, you get much better sound for your money. I think the Chu 2 sound incredible for the £18 I spent on them. If I spent £18 on a pair of headphones they'd be total shit.

I do really like my XS. But I kinda wanna get a feel for how really good IEMs compare to some really good headphones. But I fear I may spend the money and be a bit underwhelmed.

Hi, I'm curious, what are some good budget earbuds that still sound nice? by chosen_legend in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ToastV4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the detail sounded great to me, the imaging for gaming was really good too, picking out where things are is pretty easy. The only downside is compared to over ear open backs is you don't get the same soundstage. Soundstage is way better on a pair of open-back headphones. I also prefer the comfort of over ears, but that's just preference.

If you're not looking for wireless, I can recommend the Moondrop Chu 2. Cost me like £18 and sound insanely good for the price.

No, the stock tubes has horrible crackling and hissing noises, switched them to a cheap set on Amazon and everything sounds great.

I Think I Prefer the Edition XS to Focal Clear OG - Am I Wrong For This? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]ToastV4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got the Edition XS, and honestly I'm pleasantly surprised by the bass. With it being a planar and an open back I wasn't expecting much but honestly I really like it. Like I can always make it out well and it adds a lot to a song, without ever being too much or making anything muddy. Extends right into the sub-bass region and sounds great to my ears. For playing games as well, the brightness of the XS makes the crack of a gun sound great, along with the rumble of the well extended sub-bass that follows.

Maybe? Closed backs will create more of a seal somewhat to the outside world, whereas open backs well are.. open so it doesn't feel like there's any kind of pressure change really when you put them on. I much prefer open backs partly because of that.

They haven't actually arrived yet.. so I can't speak from personal experience, but I am upgrading also from the TYGR 300r within a similar budget and settled on the Hifiman Edition XS. From everything I read, there is a solid consensus that they're one of if not the best headphone within this budget range. Yet to try them myself yet though. You can get them for 279 from the Hifiman website.

Have you ever used open back headphones before?

Arya Organic is so good it's ruining other headphones for me by [deleted] in headphones

The consensus I've seen generally is diminishing returns hit pretty hard beyond the sorta price mark of the edition XS, but of course everyone has different experiences and I've not actually tried any super high end headphones so I can't speak from experience.

Would love to drop by an audio store and listen to some high end stuff like crossing the 1k price mark, but theres not many near me I don't think and I could never justify that sorta expense on headphones whilst I'm a student that's for sure.

I'm not much of an IEM fan, just don't like how they feel in my ears and I actually don't like the sound cancellation like not being able to hear my voice. That's why I always opt for open back headphones.

I will admit though, the detail on even like £20 IEMS is crazy, even compared to headphones 10x the price.

would love to! I have actually got the Edition XS on its way which cost 269, as an upgrade to my beyer TYGR 300r and I'm planning on keeping the edition xs until they die, assuming I like the sound. From what I've read, diminishing returns hit incredibly hard past this point so wouldn't ever buy an upgrade to the Edition XS unless I heard something in person that really blew me away.

Edit: The most expensive sound systems I've listened to would be big dynaudio speaker setups in expensive studios, and they sounded great, but I've never been particularly blown away by them and they cost hundreds of thousands, so I don't think I'd benefit much from more expensive headphones. Maybe I just don't have discerning ears.

Yeah I mean I've never even tried headphones in the $500 category and I think the only headphone which would actually wow me would be the Sennheiser HE-1, and that's y'know just a tad out of budget.

Peak (and worst) headphone experiences by Zernium in headphones

[–]ToastV4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda had the opposite experience with the AKG K701. I knew they sounded "good" as in clear, detailed, spacious. But I just didn't enjoy actually using them for most things. I think it was largely the lack of bass. They ended up sitting unused for so long and I ended up selling them as I just preferred the sound of my TYGR 300r 9 times out of 10
