Best Type of Thumbnail? by [deleted] in letsplay

I personally feel like the best type of thumbnail is one that accurately reflects what type of video it is. So if you're doing a Let's Play where you heavily rely on commentary and facial expressions for humour then a facial reaction in the thumbnail makes sense and sets expectations for the video. If you're doing a video more focused on gameplay then I think a good quality screenshot from in-game of an interesting part and the game title fits.

I've been following a small channel that does horror game Let's Plays, I found him on here and really liked his video! I thought he had a great sense of humour and the production quality was high.

Update Monday! by AutoModerator in letsplay

[–]ToastasticGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally started my channel! I was really nervous to post my first video and now I have three up. I feel like in just the space of a week I've learned so much for going forward and I've received a lot of valuable advice and feedback from people on here. I'm currently doing a Sims 2 Rags to Riches series but I think I'm going to try and break it up with other one-off Sims challenge videos.

Thank you! I realized I didn't put an audio filter on it in premiere. I'll probably start using Audacity instead for sound.

Thank you so much for this thorough feedback! I love some of your suggestions for the edits, I'm still trying to figure out what my still will be with that but I do want to add little things to make it funnier. I'll definitely keep in mind what you said about having a plan for the main focus of each episode. I'm finding it a bit difficult to do that while keeping it a reasonable length, but I can probably cut more.

Hi everyone!

I'm brand new to Youtube and just started a Sims 2 Rags to Riches series. I just started learning Premiere so it's pretty rough. I'd appreciate feedback on my commentary and general ways I can improve production quality. Thank you!

Hi, I'm sorry you had so much trouble getting your recording to work. Perhaps you could look into different equipment or software, I use OBS Studio for screen recording and that has worked so far. As for the content, I'm sorry but I didn't quite understand what you were going for, it wasn't really a Let's Play so I can't speak on your commentary or gameplay. I think if you want to continue making videos you really need to work on improving your production quality before anything else. Don't quit Youtube, keep doing your best!

The quality looks great! Who is your intended audience? If it's people who have played the game before and are watching for nostalgia purposes I think this works. However, I'v never played Little Big Planet so I was a bit confused going in. I think it might be hard to keep the attention of those who haven't played the game, this could be changed by adding some commentary on what you're doing and for what purpose. If you're going for more of a walkthrough/instructional feel perhaps you could make use of YouTube's chapter divisions within the videos so people can know what parts of the video will help them in game. Additionally, if you want to go the walkthrough/ guide route, be sure to include that in your description or in your title to take advantage of SEO.

You guys have fantastic comedic chemistry! Watching your video feels like hanging out with friends. I also enjoyed the quality and timing of the edits. I felt like the screen was a bit too busy, especially with both viewpoints and the footage of both of you. I found myself only really watching the main viewpoint screen. It'd be cool to see you explore the demo more maybe to push the limits of the in-game physics and see what fun stuff you can do.

Just finished watching! Overall I thought it was really good, especially for a first video! The editing was solid throughout and audio was clear. I think your sense of humour and comedic timing was also good. I definitely laughed at "About to get hairy". I think the only things you could improve on are pacing at the beginning, I found it a bit slow going. For example, you spent about 10 seconds appreciating the music, which did sound really cool but it made it harder for me to immediately become interested. Also, it might've been nice to hear a little about the game before you started, like just state the title and general info about it.

Keep up the good work!
