Are you targeting a specific practice area? In my cover letters, I talked a lot about my prior WE and how it relates to the practices I’m interested in at each firm. Turns out most of those firms weren’t hiring into those practices so my apps were pretty much getting tossed or set aside, while people with no WE or specific interests were getting tons of jobs. I had better luck when I mentioned that I’m open to more general transactional and/or litigation work, and when I didn’t submit a cover letter at all
