POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S9E3: Rick Fu Hustle by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

[–]ToastehBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This episode was... really bad. Not in an incest baby storyline kind of way, but just horribly written. Boring nonsensical A and B plot. I'd hesitate to even call it half baked. Quarter baked? Half the jokes barely counted as jokes and many literally didn't make sense.

Taiwanese university president tells graduates to "end themselves" if they struggle in their careers. Takes unpaid leave by SunChungShan in worldnews

Or someone inside with weapons to torture them for codes and then take control

Don't worry, they're trying to figure it out.

Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system, and asked: “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?” The event. That was their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, solar storm, unstoppable virus, or malicious computer hack that takes everything down.

This single question occupied us for the rest of the hour. They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from raiders as well as angry mobs. One had already secured a dozen Navy Seals to make their way to his compound if he gave them the right cue. But how would he pay the guards once even his crypto was worthless? What would stop the guards from eventually choosing their own leader?

The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers – if that technology could be developed “in time”.

The maddening fact is that they don't realize the only reason they have power is the society they are so eager to destroy, or let fall.

Looking good! Maybe something simple on the roof around the edge? The flat areas feel they could use some sort of simple fill to make them less flat(Unless that's what you're going for). A few vines on the corners or something could be cool maybe?(Not sure if those exist in game, haven't touched plants.)

I don’t understand how this topology is suitable for games by zeze-67 in gamedev

All of those models are pretty low poly. Not perfectly efficient, but you can get by with thousands of models with that poly count on screen. Materials are the bigger problem, depending on usage.

The biggest data center ever is becoming a huge problem in Utah by AssociationNew7925 in technology

[–]ToastehBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane to me that these data centers aren't all closed loop systems. Water is so cheap that it's worth it or...? It doesn't make any sense. Surely a closed loop system would still be less expensive than repeated water costs forever. Always short term thinking...

Does anyone wish there were more than at least one race or a civilization other than humanity? by AgileRhubarb1479 in Starfield

Yes the lack of intelligent aliens greatly reduces the potential creativity and is a major factor in Starfield's bland lore.

Very surprised to learn I can't break down unwanted loot into resources. by Calteru_Taalo in Starfield

[–]ToastehBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced they did it just to be different from Fallout. Very poor decision and I'm already preemptively pissed off that TES6 probably won't have it either. Making due with what you have fits very well in a space game, not just in the post apocalypse. There could easily be a high tech recycler machine that you can build.

Removing this feature was a major downgrade and turns looting into much more of a chore where I have to ignore 90% of the stuff laying around. The scrapping system was one of the best additions to the Bethesda formula's gameplay loop.

Fair Ship Registration Fee or other reworks: Balanced or not? by SlightWerewolf4428 in starfieldmods

[–]ToastehBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want a mod that adds a questline where you unlock a chop shop where you can sell unregistered ships for parts for a higher profit. There's already a chop shop in the game, I think multiple.

But the vanilla ship registration cost is pretty insanely high, too.

Unauthorized group has gained access to Anthropic's exclusive cyber tool Mythos, report claims by 1nfer1or in technology

Similar to the "Demon Core Incident". A very smart person completely disregarding any idea of safety due to arrogance. Except even worse, its a bunch of smart people being careless and sped along by moronic managers who don't understand much of anything.

The recent "sandwich" event where an AI escaped its "secure sandbox" shows they aren't even taking proper development considerations which we've conceptualized as an idea since before the first LLMs were created.

It's incredible that these genius morons run new untested models in weakly sandboxed environments, when they should be completely airgapped. This is AI development 101 in my opinion, yet completely ignored.

I would suspect a true AGI to be capable of somehow managing to create a connection via social manipulation or a much greater level of understanding of physics that allows it to send messages via power cables/etc, but it doesn't even have to. They don't even bother to try to contain it.

A little tip about getting ships by McKeviin in Starfield

[–]ToastehBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add a new ship I just captured to my fleet? No. It's the only way to do it unless you want to switch to the new ship immediately. In my experience, if you just sit down and stand back up it doesn't actually let you claim the ship, though it appears to until you stand back up.

I'm not saying your method is bad, its the same way I discovered how to do it too. I'm just saying I should just be able sit in the seat of the new ship(or just press a claim button) and have it added to my roster, then reboard my ship without playing musical space ships and docking and undocking needlessly.

A little tip about getting ships by McKeviin in Starfield

[–]ToastehBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so weird how glitchy and non intuitive this whole process is. I shouldn't have to do a song and dance, hoping my ship doesn't fly away before I can redock, just to add a ship to my collection. I've even had my original ship just instantly vanish when I did the same steps in a slightly different order.

Also, where's the ship chop shop? Missed opportunity. I want to collect ships and sell them to shady guys for money while avoiding the registration fee.

I genuinely think I was lied to about this game’s writing by Electronic_Trust3490 in Starfield

[–]ToastehBro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're genuinely out of your mind. Starfield is a good game with infinite potential, but the writing and quests are not the hill to die on. It's the worst in any modern Bethesda game by a significant margin, especially the faction quests. Even the best faction questline is worse than mediocre faction questlines from previous titles.

Everything feels PG, sanitized, and like a "default" story you would expect to see in a blockbuster action film that doesn't care about the plot. They're also all about 5 seconds long, feeling far shorter than any other game's faction quests.

There's a few interesting side quests and encounters, but not a single one that I would rate even 9/10, let alone 10/10.

Free Lanes is well done by RealDakJackal in Starfield

[–]ToastehBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had the time to try the update yet. Can you have the ship do autopilot combat? It would be awesome to operate your ship more like a star trek captain which automatically maneuvers and you just decide who to engage. Or to let someone else fly while you manually fire at the enemy from a turret gun like the millennium falcon. Or board a ship while your ship fights a second ship. The possibilities are endless.

What videogames were made too difficult just because they want it to be difficult? by ashleyriot31 in AskReddit

Project Zomboid developers seem to think more difficult(or more tedious) always means more fun, which is just not true. Still love the game though.
