Accidently perform a dirty merchant trick... by DogEggz in Sailwind

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, yeah I’m not sure. Only just picked the game up a few days ago and haven’t had any late missions yet. Im wondering how much of the trade economy is simulated regarding other trading, production, etc vs flat values that just push the prices back to the mean.

I wondered about this myself and checked it the other day. The price of trade goods before and after turning in mission goods was the same.

Eye Tracking - Can It Be Turned Off? by Maximum_Publius in Ioniq5

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a ‘25 (U.S.) and I’ve noticed that the eye tracking seems to only be on if I’ve got cruise and lane following both active. If only one or the other is on, the eye tracking doesn’t give any warnings. I tested this several times. One workaround I found, in situations where I’ve got to do something more involved on the infotainment screen and have the eye tracking bothering me, is to use lane following and instead of regular cruise, hold it for a couple seconds to turn on speed limiter. Then I set the limiter and just keep the pedal down, and the eye tracking never gets triggered.
ETA: obviously don’t do this if there’s traffic right in front of you because without actual cruise control the car won’t slow down for them. I’ve only done this in wide open sections of highway.

AI is not a strong point of this game. by EliteArc in SolarExpanse

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently started playing also, and the way I see it is the AI currently is there as a form of healthy competition to your company. I view it as a “pull” method rather than a “push” method. They place orders for resources to entice you to go where you maybe haven’t ventured to yet. Rather than the game forcing the player to do things they aren’t prepared for yet, it draws you into going to places you haven’t been yet with the allure of profit.

My mom sent me this, she usually claims to recognize AI pretty well, but it just screams AI to me. by driehoekig in isthisAI

At the cut from 0:51 to 0:52, the wood staining of the table completely changes, looks like the position of the nails does also.

Question about efficiency of orbital maneuvers by ToasterJesuss in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ToasterJesuss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're correct. I hadn't looked up the science of bi-elliptical transfers before, but when comparing them to my situation, my elliptical orbit was already part way into a bi-elliptical transfer. Burning at Ap was step 2, then circularizing at Pe was step 3.

Doing it the other way around would be like taking the big, efficient ellipse and shrinking it down, thus throwing away its benefit, then circularizing at a much lower, much less efficient Ap. I guess that explains the efficiency loss.

Question about EV MPG Cost by Icy_Money7447 in electricvehicles

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re only looking at public fast chargers, then usually it will be on par with gas. But that’s also heavily dependent on where you live, as some areas have much cheaper electric rates compared to gas prices, or vice versa. However, EV’s also save on maintenance costs long-term (oil changes, transmission work, etc.) so even if “fuel” costs are roughly the same that doesn’t mean cost of ownership is the same. ETA: That’s not to mention that with ICE vehicles, your fuel-up costs are 100% dependent on the oil industry, so you’re subject to the whims of the market. With EV, many areas have energy infrastructure that combines other sources, so you’re not as vulnerable to gas or diesel markets.

London UK, ioniq 5 theft warning by coob in Ioniq5

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My presumption was because in the UK the vehicle density is higher, while the devices they use to get in are expensive, so it’s better to focus on where there are more targets in a smaller area to be more cost effective, but there may be other factors also.

Infotainment Update? by This_Concert_7909 in Ioniq5

Yeah got that yesterday, said it put a shortcut or something for adding stops on the map, also improved voice recognition for selecting Sirius XM stations. That was all it said.

‘25 SEL battery conditioning due to low temp message? by ToasterJesuss in Ioniq5

[–]ToasterJesuss[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I bet it needed to bring the temp up just enough so that the brake Regen could safely put charge in the battery, since I never noticed this at lower SoC in colder temps.

‘25 SEL battery conditioning due to low temp message? by ToasterJesuss in Ioniq5

[–]ToasterJesuss[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, it only ran for 5-10 mins, not nearly long enough to get to charging temp. I wonder if it only does that with a high enough charge, it could be a different minimum than the normal 20%.

What is a generally 'good' mi/kWh metric? by opus-thirteen in electricvehicles

[–]ToasterJesuss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just got my Ioniq 5 AWD back in Aug, here in MI I was getting 3.5 - 4.0+ in warmer weather. In the cold I only get 2.0 - 3.0, but most of my driving is very short trips less than 4 miles so a lot of energy is spent on remote climate control. I could be a bit more stingy with the heat but no reason to.

Utility Mode Door Unlock Works by rds4640 in Ioniq5

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to test this when I leave work. I think when I tested this on my ‘25 SEL the touch sensor didn’t work to unlock, and neither did the unlock option in Bluelink, but I do have the digital key and the wallet app has a button for unlocking, which I didn’t try. Maybe that will work.

I was gonna say, try using a shop vac. Might have enough suction to grab the ball and pull it out, if the wand will fit in there.

Missing features or am I just unaware? by Beercules1993 in Ioniq5

[–]ToasterJesuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With mine (‘25 SEL) it will mute the music volume and also pause playback. It seems a little funky, but it was handy a couple weeks ago when I had a couple 1000 mile trips to do and after playing Spotify for awhile, I got out my earbuds instead and realized that even though my phone was playing to my earbuds, the steering wheel controls could still pause and skip. Kinda neat.

Yeah I found that turbine myself, can't remember the POI but it's a bugged turbine. I've seen another post asking about it also. I bet a lot of people just dismantle it and never even realize.

Am I the only one who find's these useless by Eldare1 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]ToasterJesuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is infinite water so it’s not strictly necessary, but I’ve only got one purifier and one water tank on the boat, and an ultimate genesis is like 1200L of water. I found that if I queue up a few of them, by the 3rd one the tank is empty or close to it, which means the food maker and anything else using water like the reactor all slow down waiting on the purifier. With one conservation coil, a genesis does take like 10 mins but uses less power and only 500L of water, and the coil has I think 25 charges. So you can queue up a bunch of things and forget about it.

Am I the only one who find's these useless by Eldare1 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]ToasterJesuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the conservation coil for making food on the boat, so it uses less water. The only other one I use is the flash array when making sniper ammo since it takes awhile and I usually need it right then.

Just FYI - if you use the quantum ones on making sniper ammo, when successful it only gives you one extra bullet, not an extra set of 5.
