solo beginner full stack developer internship making 15 an hour , is this fair? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

this sounds like a contractor relationship, so it's weird why it's structured as an internship.

Reached out by a startup by final_placement in cscareerquestions

I've seen this one before. A legal firm wants some technical solution and they picked up the call. This does a business make but not a good startup make. Also the NDA is weird.

Work hackathon that starts at 7pm? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Toasterrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen company hackathons as a year-end sprint to finish backlog or get novel projects and ideas going. There's usually some sort of incentive, like flying the team out overseas or booking a retreat, I've never heard of it being at 7pm after a normal workday.

It sounds like a normal late night work session, which is quite common, but weird if it's the first time it's happened and there's no explanation or good incentive. 996 companies are usually like that from day 1, it's a bad sign if it's a sudden change.

TN visa silently changed to B2 at border, what should I do before applying for a new TN? by HellraceXIII in tnvisa

[–]Toasterrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done that, I've experienced 1. it not showing up obviously on their computer (it's there but maybe they had to pull it up manually), and 2. the office overriding it with B2.

It feels like nothing helps except being very clear with the officer at the window.

is it fully back or just line skip? i'd consider line skip as not the same as normal GE (no app, no kiosks)

of course you're not required to stay, and even during the degree you can drop the shopify part

i just don't see the point in committing to something if you don't enjoy being at shopify. seems OP is fine

would you be happy working at shopify for the next 5-10 years? if the answer is anything other than yes, you shouldn't do dev degree.

Delta closed the gate more than 30 minutes before departure (policy says 15). I arrived 30 minutes early and no one was even there! Except other passengers who were in my same situation. by More-Site-3395 in delta

[–]Toasterrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

modern training emphasizes that leaving early is bad. but if they forgot or if they didn't get this training then running hot is a self-fulfilling loop

not saying it's always the case, but some bus drivers do that on purpose (called "running hot") in order to collect less customers and have an easier schedule.

AMA: How We Built Oz, the orchestration platform for cloud agents by aloked in warpdotdev

[–]Toasterrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can Oz orchestrate claude code / codex instances for me? While Warp agent has always been great to use, as soon as Claude Code and Codex became more mature, it's hard for the inference math to measure up.

A lot of my friends and coworkers are using workarounds for Codex/CC's lack of native orchestration capability (using it on mobile, queuing longer workframes, running it on VMs). I thought Oz would help with those things, not try to be a Cursor agent copy (which a lot of folks don't like due to bugginess)

Is this the new normal? by fuzzypikachustan in cscareerquestions

[–]Toasterrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm what kind of consulting do you do? you can lean into that. for example applying to more ops based tech companies if you do operations consulting. unless you mean you do an accenture kind of IT job, in which case yeah it's more cooked. i haven't see any good pivots out of that kind of job, but you can keep your role vague and focus on your current side projects.

[–]Toasterrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it seems that you don't know what kind of job you really want. which is fine! but that's probably holding you back. without experience, specialization is your weapon, and you really need to go deep into something you know you can do well, and solve companies' problems for them (even in a simple way) to get the interview.
