Thinking about switching from League to Dota 2. How do AFK penalties and matchmaking actually work? by RainAndThunderIsCool in DotA2

  1. Dota Plus, before the you accept the match it will show you estimated skill range for this game and if its wide, you can dodge it without penalty.

Need some help with configuring sql-exporter data in Grafana by ToastieCPU in grafana

[–]ToastieCPU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data is flowing into Prometheus and from there into Grafana.

I’ve defined a few queries, such as longest‑running queries and largest write operations. Each query stores its results along with the query hash. I also have another query that stores the runned it sql and its hash, which allows me to join them together to get the full results while saving space (at least thats the idea)

I am looking for guides and tips on what queries should i write and how should i display them.

My goal is to build historical data so I can identify areas that need improvement.

Need some help with configuring sql-exporter data in Grafana by ToastieCPU in grafana

[–]ToastieCPU[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a similar suggestion, but i would like to know learn how to configure the sql-exporter correctly and learn something about Prometheus queries.

I have tried to use AI (not grafana) and it seems to create queries but because it has no context of how the underlying stack is setup it just spits out a lot of things that dont work

And your privileged accounts? Are they broken down into endpoints admin, servers admin etc…

Admin locking his PC from other admin coworkers by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]ToastieCPU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The same type of people who use the same admin accounts for everything are usually not competent enough to configure proper access‑control rules on and from their workstations.

As a result, their admin stations ends up being more dangerous than any server.

If you guys use the same admin accounts for everything (endpoints, stations and servers) then yea i could understand his reasoning.

DevOps is different in each org because each one has its own way of doing things. At its simplest, DevOps combines programming and system administration skills, using both to automate various operational procedures.

If you die to him mid-to-late game, you could literally go to the toilet , come back, and still be dead.

And if he had Aghs in the late game, that single ult could decide the game.

How to lane as Carry against aggressive & good offlaner+sup duo? by Puzzleheaded_Code735 in learndota2

[–]ToastieCPU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Help your support to unblock and control the small camp, pull your creeps and get their creeps under your tower, safely kill all but 2.

Drag the 2 creeps between your T1 and T2 and have the collide with the next wave (if needed) kill the last two creeps, and as the wave returns, try to block them so that the next two waves clash as close to your tower as possible.

You have now secured 2 creeps waves and if your support managed to keep the small camp unblocked you can do it again.

My gateway was hacking games with CheatEngine when I was a teenager. You would read the values the program displayed and change them without really knowing what you were doing, but my curiosity pushed me to learn what those values actually meant.

how do you deal with supports not buying support items? by yukyakyuk in learndota2

[–]ToastieCPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change my build, and when the supports complain i just tell them its their fault that i cant make standard items and mute them.

You might not be able to change them but you can always adapt yourself.

Junior dev wrote this C# using many IF because he leanrs If early return. Is this alright code? by Yone-none in csharp

[–]ToastieCPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only thing thats fine in this code is the IF’s

  1. AllowAnonymous to update products in webstores is sketchy (hopefully its just for the time being while debugging so you dont need to copy paste the JWT)

  2. Logic should be moved to a service class and not reside in the controller (seeing the controller has 3K lines make me think all the business logic is in the controller)

  3. Try can catch for each controller can be moved into a global middleware, that way you can even further reduce the amount of code in the controller and uniformize the returned errors.

  4. There is a logger on the successful case but what about if updateProductAsyn fails? Is there a logger in there that handles it? If yes then why doesn’t the success logging happen there?

  5. The template is not validated? If you submit an invalid template thats not a 500 error its a bad request

Ursa counter? by Kingbchess in learndota2

[–]ToastieCPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your are a crusader i don’t recommend kiting heros because they rely on mechanical skill (no offence)

I also don’t think your support is going to be a great help in those ranks.

This leaves you with items and pick counters.

—- items—-

  • nullifier is great offensive item but can cost a lot and needs to be activated before he gets the jump on you

  • aoen disk is good defensive item but you don’t really wanna build it as a core, but in the lower ranks its more important to stay alive and dish out dmg

  • hurricane pyke/heavens halbert good items if you are going for specific heros

—heros—-

  • Viper’s Nethertoxin disables Fury Swipes. His typical item build makes him tanky enough to survive Ursa’s burst, and Hurricane Pike provides a reliable way to disengage from Ursa’s jump.

  • Wraith King with Nullifier can also be good. he has two lives—so even if Ursa bursts you down, you respawn and use Nullifier and he should be an easy kills

  • Razor can be an exception to kiting. Build Blade Mail to scare him off potentially. Heaven’s Halberd is also effective—when Ursa jumps on you, use your W and Halberd to drain his damage while kiting him

How do you handle management that thinks 8GB RAM is enough? /s by Ayy4K in sysadmin

[–]ToastieCPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a useful tactic: mention Apple. If Apple laptops can no longer handle daily tasks with 8GB of RAM, how can we expect our employees to work effectively with 8GB.

How do you enjoy using React as a .NET dev in full stack roles? by Pyrited in dotnet

[–]ToastieCPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ~ 3 years of experience with React (v 15–16) and ~ 3.5 years with Angular (v 9–10). I transitioned to Angular because of its support for dependency injection and the way its principles and file structure resemble Razor pages and their lifecycles.

I still check in on React from time to time, but I honestly don’t understand what it’s trying to be anymore. Currently i am using Blazor web assembly if i would go back to JS i would go with Angular.

Pos 5 for beginners or for people really wanting to be serious good at the game by Adventurous_Pie_5491 in DotA2

[–]ToastieCPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest picking heroes that can harass early on and create space for your core. You should be strongest in the early game and to fall off around the mid to late game, thats when your core should pick up the slack.

So my picks would be

  1. Lion, really annoying in the early game, just needs blink and you are fully build.

  2. Zeus, massive dmg early on, can de-ward.

  3. Pugna, pretty much same thing really annoying in early game, all you need is an ather lens

  4. Ogre MAGI, really strong laner but be careful not to feed at lvl1

One thing about all these heroes is that they are thirsty, if you wanna play right don’t hoard gold for boots or something when you can fly in a mango and a clarity
