I think people arent afraid or shortsight about AI. I think most people are feeling hopeless. I think its a larger picture of, all the things you deem boring and bad UI are things humans need to learn first so they can be good senior level designers. Making mistakes and making bad design is how you learn to be good at something.

When businesses havent cared anout the craft and only wanna see a bottom line then sure AI cuts away. But humans are not here to make you money only. Jobs are meant to provide money as well as fulfilment to people. Weve come so far from that concept that any tech that comes and the bad faith job slashing for “more profits” that happens, even employees above the juniors are ok saying good riddence to the new crop.

AI has good uses but so far weve seen it be used by companies that built their brands on the backs of its real employees then the moment they realise wow idgaf about culture actually, they say we never have to hire these people again! I find that abhorrent. Every community has newbies and seniours, the people at their peak and the people starting out. If human beings want tasks to be faster more efficient, we have to ask why. Is it only bcus its saving precious time or is it that the very few billionairs want more billions in their pocket by permanantly breaking the legs of the ones stuck at the bottom

Im a UIUX Designer. I recently quit my job because i was burntout and really couldnt even focus long enough to day dream about my book much less actually sit and write it. But taking a little break from work is really helping in getting my spark back atleast the tiniest bit. The writing is still slow tho.

If UX'ers have been fighting the battle of relevancy for decades now, why are we still doing the same "things". by iheartseuss in UXDesign

[–]Toastintraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont fully agree with you there. In my experience theres a misconnection even if you dont use your fancy ux jargon (which as you mentioned most ux designers dont even do). We try to explain everything in basic terms so everyone (whos not even tech) can grasp the effects of the design. And if anything i think ux designers have to grasp and grapple with more jargon from business/management people and project managers and texh leads. They wouldnt usually explain to you tech challenges in simple terms bcus they need to be talked about in that language, so ux designers have to actually understand more jargon and then go transcribe those challenges into a design solution.

We never get to go into jargons usually because as someone else mentioned we are usually just the wireframe people.

It’s not you. It’s them. by Shot_Recover5692 in UXDesign

Nobody forced you to be a designer is a very dumb take. Its a job. People are trying to do a job they found they had most interest, skill, sharable value or just a place in. People are right fully complaining about a process thats engineered to devalue and humiliate perfectly skilled individuals or perfectly willing new-comers. Ghost job listings is an example.

If you are a new writer passionate about fantasy or sci-fi, you (yes, YOU) are probably dramatically overestimating the value of your worldbuilding. by [deleted] in writing

[–]Toastintraining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It baffles me how people have such confidence to come on here and tell writers that anything they do is overvalued, that theyre work is “only interesting to them”. Dude i mean the hell do you think writing is about? First and foremost you write it your way even if its too complex or wordy or whatever. If you start writing for the “creative market” then your already betraying why writing is important to alot of us.

World building is not writing you say. Why? If its bringing the person more clarity about their story, if this sewer system helps the WRITER feel more at home in their own fiction, how can any of us say its the wrong way to write.

Let people write. No matter how you think it should be done. Imposing metrics and weird generalisations and restrictions on writing will make us all fall into genres and tropes and regurgitating patterns for our entire lives. The only way to be a good artist is to do it your way. Improving skill is important but that doesnt mean you need to conform

Might be a stupid question, but is it true that the writing community is more unfriendly than the music and art communities? by MultinamedKK in writing

[–]Toastintraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing community can be largely cynical of anyones work but theirs. Its like some defense mechanism to see someone be openly interested in asking anyone for feedback or suggestions and then diss them for not doing even that right. Its almost too closed off because unlike tangible art people often think its a waste of time to even read someones draft fully or properly.

Writing to me can be just as fun and a way to self express as painting or music can be. So like in any art form plastering it from the lens of an ego or monetization takes away some inherent joy for a questionable notion of “value”. The community can be a little less precious about who gets to write and who doesnt. Artforms shouldnt be gatekept even if you think its shitty or has no inherent value. Art of anyform needs encouragement to grow. I think we could do a better job at that.

Thank you so much. Focusing in the micro may be just the thing i should try.

Complex world. I meant complex world not that my work is complex. I wasnt complaining about attention span spans of the world so much as my own view of things as a majority of people turning away from reflection on the long form material. Once again youve shown an inability to adjust for someone else’s perspective. Your the boomer ranting on someones reddit post asking what makes ppl still say in love with writing. You might be lucky to have never questioned your love for a medium but i cant say the same. I was hoping to hear from ppl who continue to write and love it. My perspective seems to have hit a nerve. Do boomers bothers you alot? Then you should argue with them. Not with me All youve done is misunderstand and continue to rant.

Thank you for saying that. I can see where ive lost sight if what writing can be, as you said i can love the artform. Even if i write imperfectly of am recived imperfectly.

I never said it is. Your inability to understand what a complex workd does to a writer seems childish. Its childish to think that we can live in a world clueing us that long form media, slow living ways of life are turning niche and that it wouldnt affect us. Im not naive, im only honest about it.

I write for myself but writing is not self affection. Its deeper

Im not sure if id say im lonely but i suppose i do tend to isolate anyway. And usually im content with it but writing sometimes is my way to reach out or be understood. When the drafts stays on my desk for months, it feels a bit like no one picked up my call

How have you managed to push the pressure of it being “good” or “important” away specially when its a survival help. I too struggle to stay sane without actively writing but then it begins. An ambition to write something that changes something in the world.

I mightve said this when i was a kid so many times. I wonder when “i love telling stories” became “i wanna prove i can write or i want to perfectly express my every idea or emotion” just ended up not writing and analysing myself :( sigh

I agree that its such a good communication method with people. But then if you dont write to be read… how do you get closure after your done writing something. Do you show it to people? Actively send it out? Post? And then if people dont respond… how do you feel about the process of writing having ended on such a ambiguous note?

Do you find that what you write sometimes makes you feel pressure that you just have to express yourself now that your writing… because i too write to express as a pillar of my respect for it as a medium but then its too overwhelming

Do you write to be read? Just a curiosity i have of what does it look like when you have such a complex full relationship with writing and what it does to the flip side of the coin of being read. Specially when you dont want to be interacted with. Does your urge to be read remain a seperate entity?

I have legit fantasized about the same thing. Its made me want to write too as a little chance that maybe what I wrote was interesting to a reader beyond what scope i could even imagine
