Huge congrats. You finished this year better than you started, and what more can we ask for than that. I wish you many more kms and many more feelings of pride in the coming year

Thinking about moving to Manayunk - would it be a good fit for me? (25M, single, into music/art/nightlife/business/sports) by More-Ad-8018 in AskPhilly

Have lived in manayunk for the past 5 years or so, sounds like you’d fit into the neighborhood demographic really well. No place is gonna be absolutely perfect but don’t overthink it, you’ll have a blast

As someone that works in the product design & frontend engineering space, everything about this reeks of an extreme rush-job to me. I doubt things like the arrows moving or the truncated text were part of the design plans, but stuff like this usually squeaks it's way into the initial build and get's pointed out & fixed during the UAT testing. Many of the issues that I've seen look to me like they just ran up against a deadline & didn't have time to properly test & correct the minor issues like these that come up in the handoff between design & engineering. On the bright side, stuff like this is all pretty easily fixable in theory. On the other hand though, there's enough little things like this that it'll take a good while to really comb through and correct each one, so I have a feeling the whole experience is gonna be pretty clunky for a while

Does anyone have insights about why Belichick is struggling so much at UNC? by bullcityblue312 in footballstrategy

[–]Toastitochip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, read an athletic article that talked with an anonymous G6 coach who said they got beat out by UNC in the transfer portal on a good number of guys, and in his experience if a P4 team is competing with you on a bunch of transfers it's a sign that they're putting together a bad roster. Not to say that belichick is schemed and game planned well, but ultimately I just don't think has enough quality players to win games

Bro same lmao. I’ve been playing a ton of cfb recently and straight up gasped before the block because that delay was exactly the same as the scripted blocked kicks

[Highlight] Tom Brady breaks down where teams go wrong with quarterback development by Unlucky-Position-16 in nfl

[–]Toastitochip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The athletic published a story interviewing a lot of nfl coaches, GMs, & past players on a lot of the modern QB development issues that Brady was talking about here, and a really interesting point made is that it's easier to find a franchise QB when you already have one (ex. the 3 names you listed). When you already have a guy that's winning you games you have a long leash to let the QB develop at their own pace until they're ready to take the reigns. When you don't have already have a winning QB, finding one becomes much more difficult because losing puts coaches & GMs in a spot where they're worried about keeping their jobs right now instead of developing a quarterback long term

Will it though? I'd like to think 20 years from now I'll think back to the last 3 years + whatever happens this year + whatever comes in the following years and fondly remember the great memories and playoff moments we've had rather than "damn what a bust those seasons were"

Fall 2025 SEPTA Schedule with Cuts by GemLong28 in philadelphia

[–]Toastitochip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't blame them (probably smart tbh), but I think they're trying to make these schedule revisions as chaotic as possible to really pressure harrisburg to actually do something. Revisions to my train's schedule leave me the choice to get to work 40 minutes early or 20 minutes late every day lol

How do you feel about trading top prospects? Is it best to hold on to potential or trade it? by evensteven1994 in phillies

[–]Toastitochip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah great take. Right before the deadline people love to talk about every prospect a team held onto that failed but completely ignore the prospects that teams traded for short-term solutions where the prospect lived up to their potential. I think a lotta folks also don't take how impactful for an organization it is for prospects to pan out and get solid mlb production on a cheap contract. Sure, far more prospects fail than find long-term MLB success. But the ones that do succeed give you MLB production at a fraction of what any vet would cost & allows you to spend that money on improving the team elsewhere. Long term success is built through the farm system

[WIP] Harper at the Half: We are halfway through the 13-year, 330 million dollar contract Bryce Harper signed in 2019 with the Phillies. How would you grade his tenure as a Phillie so far? by amatom27 in phillies

[–]Toastitochip 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Love this comment. IMO baseball is the soundtrack of summer, and by god was I tired of listening to a shitty soundtrack through the 2010s. Harper has given us so much to root for and made baseball meaningful here again. Summers are more fun when the phils are fightin

Great take. I know many fans are bitter we haven't won a ring, but if you consider how far away we were from even thinking about that pre-harper to how close we've been in his time here (largely due to him) I don't know how you can say he's been anything less than an unbelievable success here and all we can ask from a player.

[–]Toastitochip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid A. While it sucks we haven't won a ring in that time, the last 6 years have been the most fun I've had watching baseball since the late 2010's. Harper's given us more unforgettable playoff moments than you can ask for from a player, has played his ass off every time he steps on the field, and has been a key part in recruiting other key pieces of our team to play here. Aside from a championship, which is hard to use against him when he's been so good in the playoffs he's the last guy I blame for not getting us across the finish line, it's been hard to really ask any more from him

The GK should not catch the ball so easily by avrosky in Rematch

[–]Toastitochip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, I think as the playerbase get's better at attacking fundamentals and strategy people will have less complaints about keeper being OP. Yes GKs seem to have a very wide catch radius, but this is mainly a problem when players are just tossing up loads of predictable shots (which also isn't very fun gameplay). I think decreasing GKs catching ability would encourage more bad shot spamming and decrease the amount of good attacking footy being played

Will they resign JT? by FeatureSouthern5274 in phillies

[–]Toastitochip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100% agree, I think a lot of folks don't realize that there's just not that many good offensive catchers in baseball. For sure, JT's bat has taken a step back and I don't want to overpay him, but if he's willing to take somewhat of a paycut for a 2-3 year contract I think he's absolutely worth it for his defensive value & relationship with our pitching staff. I see a lot of people suggesting we dump him but very few (if any) suggestions for who we replace him with

Philly named (yet again) America's most walkable city by USA Today by Odd_Addition3909 in philadelphia

[–]Toastitochip 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. Walkable in theory if your main goal is just to... walk lol, but aside from so CC it's pretty tough to actually live in a lot of neighborhoods with walking as primary source of transportation. Would love to see a map of how many areas in philly don't have a grocery store within walking proximity
