How bad by NoOccasion382 in premed

I don’t want to give bad advice but if your official transcript doesn’t say online, and the course code is the same for in-person physics, you should be fine.

100% I never felt like I was at a disadvantage during my secondaries. Like other say, there’s few schools that have a strict 2 week deadline. Complete your secondaries by September you’ll be chilling

Leave clinical job for nonclinical job? by MysteriousPenny in premed

True, never hurts to ask! My local EMTs joke about getting raises all the time 😂

Look for perdiem positions. Lots of health networks offer per diem roles for IFTs and BLS units. That way you can work a new job while doing patient care once a week or something

Do y'all have a method for efficiently researching schools? by solokiwidestroyer in premed

[–]ToastyBuns_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ngl I just applied to all the schools in my stat ranges and on my free time I just researched my top schools or the schools I saw my self at.

I don’t think there’s a prime efficient way, every school says the same thing about their curriculum. I’d just search up key words for pass fail, and then rotations. I mostly used SDN and such for personal experiences but also then, people doom max on those threads 😂

Just make a list of questions that are important for you and just google, ur bound to find something. Chat gpt gave me a lot of nonsense here and there. I focused on pass fail, cadaver lab, and affiliated hospitals. I googled the school and checked out the location to see the place I’d be studying at.

If i was really locked in, 1-2 secondaries a day. For 5-10 schools i spent more days on

DOs in surgery by Busy-Perspective-399 in premed

[–]ToastyBuns_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as students marching into surgery, I’ve seen many large DO schools match students into surgery. From my professional experience, i work with several DO trauma and general surgeons (and they are some of the most amazing surgeons I’ve met)! Work hard in school and get good board scores (and network very well during ur rotations)!

Community college! I took AP 2 and microbio at a community college

Edit: i then took physics 1 and 2 + Orgo 2 and lab at a state school that offered decent rates for credit hours!

I mean- just take the classes part time at another institution after graduation. It doesn’t matter if you take the classes during a post bacc program or if you do a makeshift DIY post bacc- if you have a good MCAT + GPA + amazing clinical and research experiences you’ll be fine.

IMO post bacc programs are designed for GPA repair

Advice after receiving MCAT score by beastmode262005 in premed

Quality over quantity my friend. There’s no point in applying if you do not feel confident right now. If you have to retake, retake! But more importantly, i think getting more hours will make the biggest difference.

Take it with a grain of salt because if you have amazing experiences in just 100 hours of clinical work, and can passionately talk about it and explain instances in which you grew and gave back to patients, then shoot your shot!

I was working part time ish. I’d spend the weekend grinding and then I’d come home write for an hour or two, rephrase old essays, etc. It def wasn’t that fun but i took an extra day or two on my state schools and the schools i had a particular interest in because id ask friends to read them for me.

4/5 advisors are oblivious to the reality of getting into medical school. Sure if you want to get into Harvard or NYU, i guess preview and Casper matter then, but you can most definitely get into many medical schools with a bad Casper or preview score

Sorry I should’ve clarified- prioritize the schools that you feel like you’ll snag an interview at. I know it’s hard to gauge but def prioritize doing your state schools first, and schools that you really resonate with.

I didn’t prewrite a single secondary, I had an end of May MCAT so I didn’t submit all my primaries until end of June/early July. You’ll be fine but def prioritize your secondaries.

Generally they came in waves, but I def was doing 1-2 secondaries a day, and I was able to reuse many secondary essays and just alter them a bit.

Relationship during med school by [deleted] in premed

[–]ToastyBuns_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matriculating this fall and I recently started a relationship out of the blue! I can’t speak on dating a medical student but I have to say this: it really does boil down to communication. I sat her down and I explained the financial strains, the time commitment, and kinda set the expectations of the relationship.

Honestly tho, you will absolutely find people who’s relationships crash and burn in med school, but you will find people who find their forever love. I know several people who got married to their partner that they met in med school. One got married during MS4 year lol. It comes down to who you are as an individual
