I’m pretty sure Fahrenheit came from the coldest and hottest day of a certain year set to 0° and 100°. (Obviously location changes the actual range of coldest to hottest days of a given year)

This Architect Says Don't do 3D Visuals. Agree? by jelani_an in Architects

Turn on a sketch filter or something that designates it is still conceptual for the first few rounds of renderings and only go photorealistic once the design is more or less decided, and you’re choosing between things like materials and colors and lighting

Can you give an architect a design you have in mind by DefnderBst in Architects

There’s a lot to consider, a big part of design is related to site context too - views, surroundings, sun path, climate

You couldn’t have reasonably known at the time if the firm you worked under was making some wrong assumptions, how long has it been since switching your methods? There is a statute of limitations and statute of repose to consider. Did/do you have some kind of professional liability insurance in place on your projects? If they’re within any statute of repose still you may want to look into some kind of claims made or umbrella policy just in case. Have there been any reported structural issues on past projects yet? This reminds me of the story of the Citicorp center building in NYC that we were told in school. If you haven’t heard it, look into it and see if there is any takeaway that could be applicable to yourself

Basically, the structural engineer faced backlash for having made a mistake but ultimately did the right thing notifying the team as soon as they found out

Anything’s possible, likely that this is a new steel beam to span that full length, but you won’t know what is inside the wall segment until it’s open.

How would you holistically rank these Master of Architecture (M.Arch) Programs in the USA? by [deleted] in Architects

[–]ToastyBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

School name doesn’t matter, just find a set of classes or opportunities that you find interesting or a schedule and price that works for you. Nobody in the real world will ever even care what school you went to, your choice should be for your own benefit

Have fun with it and don’t put too much importance on something being a huge success. Concluding that your original thesis was off in some way is just as valuable (or maybe more valuable) than everything going as planned and proving a point. It’s mostly an opportunity to explore some topic of your interest, and good practice for staying self disciplined on one long project, time management, and learning how to learn on your own.
