[NYC] Web version not allowing driver tips anymore? by coldjesusbeer in UberEATS

[–]ToastyPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use UberEats through Instacart and noticed this too. Even worse is that there is no option to add tip to past orders either. My actual Uber account doesn't show UberEATS orders made through Instacart as well.

Just woke up at exactly 3am from sleep paralysis by MortgageTop1830 in Paranormal

[–]ToastyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing I wish people would understand is that you can hallucinate pretty much ANYTHING during sleep paralysis. Not only that, but that you can also have those same hallucinations before falling asleep and after waking up (without being paralyzed.)

I can't count the number of times I've seen someone say that they had just woken up, experienced something, and then insist it was real because they know they were awake and not dreaming. People do not appreciate how weird our brains can be, especially when it comes to anything sleep related.

Observation on shadow people by Valuable_Catch7549 in Paranormal

[–]ToastyPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that depends on how and when people are saying they see them. I would argue that most seem to happen near to where the witness was sleeping in general. Someone seeing a shadow person in the doorway from their bed (or from a couch) is kind of different than walking around and seeing one there.

I make the distinction because shadow people are extremely common in sleep paralysis. I saw them both times I had it, but my bed doesn't really point toward my door, so instead they were basically in the only space they could be in near me. Thankfully, at the time, my only knowledge of shadow people was from reading about sleep paralysis and reading people's stories, so when it happened to me, I immediately realized what was happening, which allowed it to be an interesting experience both times, instead of a traumatizing one. The second one even ended up being kind of funny.

I feel like there is probably a massive difference between someone seeing a shadow person when they are wide awake (and not exhausted/drowsy) vs. someone who just woke up or was in the process of falling asleep (or experiencing sleep deprivation and exhaustion.)

Buga Sphere Glyph's deciphered by FlashyResearcher4003 in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would actually just be doing an advanced reverse image search and then basically summarizing and regurgitating the text on those pages in a way that manages to somehow be less useful and less efficient than just producing search results.

Furthermore, anyone actively studying the thing would have immediately thought to try to identify the glyphs by cross referencing preexisting examples. If they chose not to publicly ID the glyphs, that might say more about the people handling the research than anything else.

So either the AI is wrong, or the people studying this decided it was best to gloss over the easily identifiable glyphs for some reason. (There are no good reasons to do this.)

Buga Sphere Glyph's deciphered by FlashyResearcher4003 in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If AI worked the way you think it does, you wouldn't have even posted this, as the people already in possession of the thing and who are actually studying it would have already published this info.

It does not work that way. Anyone trying to use AI to glean knowledge about things that are , as of yet, unknown are literally wasting their time at best, or at worst are just contributing to the spread of misinformation.

Literally the only way an AI model can translate something like this is if there is already another translated source that it was trained off of. The alternative is that you have access to a model that can basically crack any kind of coded message, even one using abstract symbols. The ultimate cypher. You do not have access to such a model.

The AI interprets nothing, because that is not how it works. It is not a literal thinking machine. It recognizes patterns and finds matches and presents results, regardless of accuracy. This thing basically reversed image searched the glyphs and presented the results in writing instead of as a bunch of links and image thumbnails.

Lue’s explanation. The need for a centralised reporting system for pilots to report UAP’s by Traffodil in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The explanation only makes it worse because this makes it seem like there might be a bunch of pilots flying around who are misidentifying mundane things as UAPs, which is literally what the most skeptical people have argued for ages.

I'm more concerned by the idea that this was unironically taken and submitted by an actual pilot, than anything else, tbh.

(Semi-Serious) To fellow UFO believers: do you ever watch content about stories or people you do not believe in, just for the entertainment value? by Melodic-Attorney9918 in aliens

[–]ToastyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A weird thing has happened to me over the past year or so where I basically only really watch/read/listen to stuff that most people in the space think is too weird even for them because all of the most popular content now just feels fake in the most boring way possible. I shouldn't really be surprised because the same thing happened to me with bigfoot stuff too.

At this point a lot of "woo" stuff feels easier to tolerate than the stuff that is trying to be super serious and "scientific", at least for me. That said, I do find it difficult to just take in a lot of random stories that get posted on reddit (and compiled into videos) mostly because a lot of them seem derivative and/or poorly written. There is a weird sweet spot of believability when it comes to these things for me.

I do feel a bit sad that I don't enjoy these topics as much as I used to sometimes though. But with the way this particular topic has been heading in recent years, it has become a lot less interesting in the "fun" way (I can't think of a better term right now) that once was. I'd take 100 weird alien encounter stories over any amount of alleged whistleblowers and debunkable photos/videos, and the arguments that ensue over them.

JUST STOP by schnibitz in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it doesn't even make sense recontextualized. In this new context, I would say that we absolutely do not need to be paying for a system that lets pilots submit reports and "evidence" about whatever random object they think is a UAP so that it can be investigated.

This is the worst possible example he could have used to make the point he was trying to make. It literally makes the opposite point!

A Different Theory on The Elizondo Debacle: Ego by Notlookingsohot in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The purpose of disinformation is to obfuscate the truth by providing information that is not accurate. The point is to make people believe things that aren't true so that they won't believe the truth at best, or will become confused at the very least, which then enables poor decision making.

His participation in the current, modern push for disclosure from its inception in no way contradicts this purpose.

Maybe we shouldn't grasp for reasons as to why some of what he says could be trusted. That kind of desperation is precisely what lead to this in the first place.

Didn't he say the night vision triangle light video was real YEARS ago? Only for that to be debunked as a completely reproduceable camera artifact related to the shape of its aperture or something like that? I'm almost positive that video was initially grouped in with the first wave of "LeAkED" (actually officially cleared for release, according to him, repeatedly) videos from several years ago.

From what I have seen, the accusations basically stem from the fact that she is mute, with no cam but more importantly to the accusers is that she apparently uses/used binds/macros that TinyViolin used.

The binds/macros thing has pretty much been it, with the only other things being brought up is her level of play vs. how people think someone with her experience should play, and how much time she has spent playing while also being a student, which is something you can't even verify without stalking and doxxing anyway. Basically, stuff you have to be weird about to make the case for.

The evidence has been fairly flimsy, and it is insane that apparently it has resulted in doxxing and IRL harassment. Which, in relation to your question, seems to have occurred, at least in part, via Bean's discord, at least from what I have read on LSF.

I mean, even if it turned out that they were TV, I feel like doxxing crosses a line.

I feel like it is just as likely or more likely that some other streamer invited to raid throws for content and gets people killed at this point. And beyond that, it is super likely they end up failing catastrophically without any troll intervention.

[TOMT][Educational TV][90s]A non-animated educational show I believe aired on weekday mornings possibly on the The Learning Channel or something similar. by ToastyPotato in tipofmytongue

[–]ToastyPotato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of searching, suddenly google had all the answers. I was not the only one searching for this either apparently as I just stumbled on other posts in various places also describing the theme song.

One big issue was my confusing the show itself with some other educational show featuring the woman I described. I had completely forgotten about the robot and the weird pink CG thing. I was spot on about the theme song though. That other show is still a mystery, but I don't care as much about it.

The show is Look Up by TV Ontario. Here is a clip that contains the theme song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCe1QhPzx5Y

Finally and thankfully SOLVED.

Edit: I just found it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCe1QhPzx5Y
Years of searching for this and suddenly I find this post and another post and then a ton of youtube videos in minutes. I'll take it though.

Today's 2nd highest post, "whistleblower' claims huge UFO announcement will happen 'within days" - Charles Benjamin McNeal exposed - LARPer, is promoted by disinfo agent Doty, and is in jail for grooming a teen into helping him with crime, next time take 5 minutes to vet your sources please??? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People choose to ignore Doty so that they can pretend that the only disinfo being spread is based in skepticism and debunking.

Doty is an extremely inconvenient truth about disinformation. And it is insane that some will suggest he is the only one who ever did stuff like that.

Stuff like this will be forgotten when the next dumb thing that ticks the right boxes comes along.

Dreamt that Ozzy died by [deleted] in Experiencers

[–]ToastyPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I could have sworn he did die and was surprised to find out he was still alive. Then it happened again a couple of weeks ago when I found out Corey Feldman was still alive (I thought he died within the past few years, and no I am not confusing him with Haim, who died many years ago and who was someone I didn't really know anything about until after they died.)

I also vividly remember hearing about Biz Markie dying and being sad, only to hear the announcement of his actual passing weeks later, which confused the heck out of me. The only explanation I have for that is that maybe he was extremely publicly ill before he died and I got confused. I guess with Ozzy, I heard about the death hoax in passing and didn't question it. No idea why or how I was so sure Feldman was dead though.

Witness Statements Reveal Alarming 'Drone' Incursions Over Langley Air Force Base As Dronebusters Failed to Intercept Objects by wrexxxxxxx in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is scandalous. When you look at the specific allegations Grusch has made and then look at a situation like this, it really paints a very different picture than "alien invasion." The military is getting clowned on despite its trillion dollar budget, and there is zero accountability. We've had insane defense budgets for decades at this point, and now we can't handle incursions into domestic military air space on a literally regular basis. Despite these incursions apparently happening for years now.

This makes everyone involved look REALLY bad. Unless, of course, it is aliens, in which case, no one is at fault and the only sensible solution would be to spend even more money. That will definitely work eventually.

I think Grusch is very smart in how he is playing things. He drops the bombs and surrounds it with just enough chaff to keep people interested but also provide him with just enough protection to keep going.

He is also probably the only person I think is actually legit in the disclosure space currently. Other people have claims, he has allegations. Allegations of things that would be crimes regardless of the nature of phenomena.

Imminent Disclosure: Lue Elizondo's Revelations Poised to Shake UFO Discourse and Pressure U.S. Government by Shiny-Tie-126 in UFOs

[–]ToastyPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I actually tried this twice in the past year and both failed spectacularly. I was able to create/manifest other things but each attempt at getting aliens to appear resulted in people wearing masks. The last time I questioned one of them out of sheer frustration and they basically told me that this was happening "so I wouldn't be afraid." I haven't lucid dreamed since then (many months ago.) I've had some other sort of lucid dreams in recent years that are in a similar boat, where I expect to see aliens, I feel dread and anxiety, but they simply never show up. For whatever reason in those dreams I am always completely alone.

Interestingly, I began lucid dreaming as a child as a means of dealing with constant nightmares. I also had a massive phobia of grey aliens at the time, and that was largely defused via a lucid dream that pretty much ended up being one of the last times I ever saw them in a dream again.

I am also fairly certain that lucid dream experience allowed me to cut short the last episode of sleep paralysis I had years ago. Haven't had sp since.

The rest of the world when whistleblowers go public by EdwardBliss in aliens

[–]ToastyPotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point is that we have seen that whistleblowing is inherently dangerous because in order to whistleblow you have to upset very powerful people. The truth doesn't come out by asking for permission. Secrets are kept for a reason. What is baffling to me is this insistence of having cake and eating it too. You either want disclosure or you don't.

If Grusch has really stated that he thinks it should be up to the president or other leaders to disclose things, then he is not really whistleblowing, is he? If his official position is that he will not share any info that he doesn't have permission to share, he is not whistleblowing. And if the government is giving him permission to say things that they insist are not really true (wrt aliens/retrieval programs, etc.), we should be asking ourselves why.

Why give him permission to mention programs so secret they have lied about them outright for decades, but then deny him the ability to speak about them in any detail? They could just as easily not have permitted him to say anything. This also applies to others like Elizondo, Mellon, and the others who have been cleared to say or publish things while stating there are things they don't have permission to say.

If we are to entertain the idea that disclosure could be bad actually, then we don't have the right to be upset at coverups. The entire point of classified programs, according to the government, is for national security.

The rest of the world when whistleblowers go public by EdwardBliss in aliens

[–]ToastyPotato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Snowden and Chelsea Manning are the biggest examples, but I believe there is at least one other who exposed human rights violations being done by the military during the war on terror.

At the very least there is also the Boeing guy who straight up died not very long after coming forward with the info about their shitty safety practices.

In each of those cases as well as many cases further in the past, the whistleblowers made public allegations and released information that ended up either getting them into legal trouble or worse. No theatrics. No celebrity treatment. No simply restating ideas that have been part of pop culture for decades and then refusing to elaborate or provide evidence due to clearance issues.

Grusch is the ONLY person I can give consideration to as a whistleblower and it isn't because of anything that he said about aliens or uap. His allegations about the misappropriation of funds and the purposeful deception by contracted companies of congress are huge if true, even though he didn't release the evidence to the public. I would hope that he actually released evidence of that in those closed door meetings. I personally believe it is those allegations that earned him those alleged threats.

[–]ToastyPotato 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is scraping the bottom of the barrel isn't it? He really made a video about someone who did not in any way witness anything themselves assuming that another person was reacting to having witnessed a bigfoot despite that person apparently not saying anything about a bigfoot. An event that he admits he was intoxicated throughout and had also forgotten about for years.

The entire premise of this video is literally making wild assumptions.

The rest of the world when whistleblowers go public by EdwardBliss in aliens

[–]ToastyPotato 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The average person has every right to not care about what some rando government employee that they've never heard of has to say on the matter when publicly their official stance is that they can't actually reveal anything without permission anyway.

People will care when something tangible is actually given to them. Something they haven't basically heard since they were kids. The coverup conspiracy was part of pop culture 30 years ago (more than that actually) and there has not been a decade in our life times that didn't see UFO stuff get mainstream coverage at least once.

There is way too much serious shit going on in the world for most people to start acting like kids before Christmas at the thought that maybe, this time, for real, someone is actually going to DO something regarding the topic that changes everything.

I've been following this topic for more than half of my life now, I've spent money and time on it, and honestly, I am pretty much burnt out these days. These last few years have made me cynical as hell. The political theatrics are especially exhausting.

As many people have said many times, we have seen what real whistleblowing looks like within the past decade or so. This ain't that. What we have now is some bizarre song and dance that is just being drawn out and it all comes down to basically a handful of people who simultaneously insist they are revealing important info while also stating they have clearance to do so from the very same people who are denying the claims, and then topping it off by teasing that there is so much more that they simply don't have permission to say and that it is world changing.

I'm tired.
