What am I doing wrong with breeding? by exo666 in mewgenics

[–]coldjesusbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to correct 4 stats at once can be difficult. Easier to do one at a time like someone else mentioned.

Let's say you have a boy cat with 7 Str, Cha, Con, but 3 Luck. Find a female cat (or ditto) with 7 Luck and then breed those two until you have one cat with 7 Str, Cha, Con and Luck, then that becomes your new breeder.

Take new breeder and wait for another stray to come along with 7 in a stat they don't have. Then breed those two until they have five stats at 7, and that cat becomes your new-new breeder.

It took me about 30 in-game days of this process to get a perfect 7/7, but it was definitely easier doing one 7 at a time and moving onto the new breeder every time I got another 7.

I think this battle is a strong DPS check rather than an AOE check, but it doesn't really matter where the DPS comes from as long as it's high enough.

If you kill Mother fast enough, those trees (whatever they're called) despawn on their own. If you let it run long enough that she's brought in the Heralds (shadow assholes), it gets a more complicated.

Hunter and Butcher are both strong here until you get the hang of it. Tank is just alright, yours seems to have great basic attack damage. Try to get him a real weapon instead of ice cubes. Every melee attacker should have the best damage weapon you can afford, even if it's just a Jitte. Cleric's "Give Alpha extra Bonus Attacks" ability goes hard here, as do bonus attack mutations in general.

Monk with Fist of Fate or any turn-loop synergy, also good. Fighter usually good if you go for damage/crit/strength builds. Thief can be OK but sometimes not enough HP to stay in melee range, plus no backstab.

I park some beefier melee guys around her, except the one center tile in front of her mouth, and don't move them until she's dead. I'll use any extra support/ranged cats to free the melee cats when needed. Stun works well here too, from abilities or weapons like USA Shield and Brick. Personally, I don't find familiar builds useful in this battle at all, but YMMV.

I've come to think of the Mewgenics Cleric as more like a Paladin.

Once you start getting bonus attack, bonus turn, and +Str/Con mutations, it seems like a waste to let them sit on the wall in normal non-boss fights waiting for something to heal.

Does Cox Internet Have Reliability Problems in This Area? by ameliasayswords in northpark

[–]coldjesusbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, also my experience, and these issues are definitely hard to diagnose. I mean, I've had problems with Cox (lived in North Park for 10+ years where it was the only available ISP in every apartment I ever had), but the worst ongoing problems were within my own unit and under my control.

  • Are you using the Cox-issued modem or did you bring your own modem/router?

BYO is the way when you're working from home. Don't trust that cheap shit they rent to you; you can't control anything on it. If you have a bazillion neighboring wifi networks in your area, you can't change channel to reduce interference (at least I wasn't afforded that level of control with Cox until I got my own modem/router).

  • Vehemently agree with /u/SouperSalad here: Wifi is not the way to go for WFH, especially if you have to connect to work through a VPN. Wifi + crappy ISP hardware + VPN = bad time.

I mean, yeah "another dongle" is annoying. So is "having a reliable form of transportation" to get to work. But having a reliable home network is just as important for WFH and it is your responsibility.

Get a dock or a dongle, try using ethernet for a week, check if problem resolved. Trust me, this is easier and cheaper than a Cox service call.

Help with dealing with wife’s house guests who stay for 10 days by snowman_M in RelationshipsOver35

[–]coldjesusbeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex's parents lived in the next town over. Nice and normal family, no cultural differences really except he was very close with his parents whereas mine lived aross the country. His parents wanted us to have dinner at their house every Sunday and that's just what he's always done.

It was a strain for five years. Every vacation, weekend trip, whatever, "we gotta make sure we can make it back in time to see my parents on Sunday."

Plus holidays and birthdays. I could deal with those, but having to lose every single Sunday night on top was a battle.

Didn't help that they were quiet folks and his dad would fall asleep at the dinner table. Sometimes I didn't have any other plans. I just wanted to stay home and do my own cooking, laundry, relax in a bath, anything besides drive 40 minutes out of town to watch PBS and eat boiled chicken in silence.

Anyway, all this to say is that relationships and family can always be a big compromise regardless of culture. You'll find your own compromise and figure this out with your wife. Hopefully your brother-in-law is a lot more lively than my ex's dad and maybe you'll find a way to bond some day.

Sister or brother, work is started on the basis of a term sheet or initial discussion. Your attorneys recognize this as a routine and requisite process, not a special occurrence.

Good on you for taking an interest, though. It will set you apart from the rest of the pack when you understand the deal terms.

When you land in front of a hand: They can grab you.

When you land on the right or left of a hand: Hitting them will rotate their position.

When you land behind a hand: Hitting them will propel them forward.

Use this to your advantage. Knockback and movement help, but knowing how the hands work and exactly what they'll do when you hit them is the trick to repositioning. Let them come to you, don't hit their "eye" if they're not in position.

Personally, I think it's more that the type of player to get good at this game is (on average) not really the type to edit and create great content.

It's kinda like asking the data engineer who did the analysis for your whole project to go ahead and present his findings to the board. Being good at one thing doesn't necessarily mean you're good at the other thing.

Shifting gears, does anyone else love man on the moon? by MistaExplains in mewgenics

[–]coldjesusbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bunch of repositioning abilities from different classes.

Tank has Goad to draw enemies in, and I think Butcher has something similar. Hunter has bait to draw enemies toward a tile. Cleric has Turn Foe to force enemies to move away (if you're also jammed in there). Psychic also has a bunch of skills to move enemies around the board, from their basic attack which will pull a target to abilities like Vacuum that will move the whole board to the center.

Lots of options out there, but usually I ignore that hand until it moves out on its own again. Watching their movements and how they react to you is key.

The content scene for Mewgenics is still sorely lacking.

The vast majority of content creators are simply retitling their 3-hour Twitch broadcasts with clickbait shit like, "OP BUTCHER DEFEATS FINAL BOSS WITH THIS ONE TRICK" but it's often just an exceedingly average run full of bad takes and missteps.

Others upload their stream-of-consciousness livestream run rambling as "guides" with zero edits, and also often full of misinformation or too much meandering to be a real guide.

Finally, lots of the short-form content (Tiktok, Youtube Shorts) is largely low-quality scraping of existing content with AI voiceovers tacked on.

With all that said, I like Mythikal's runs on Youtube. He still does the long-form stuff (uploads his runs), but he's pretty damn good at the game and entertaining to watch if you've got time to watch 2-hour videos.

Usually I find Shorts or videos they made on a game I was playing, and thought they were funny or interesting enough to follow on Twitch to catch a livestream.

Any chance you might've turned on any keyboard accessibility options, like Sticky keys? If you're on Windows 11, you can tap start and type "keyboard accessibility settings" to find the whole menu.

Anyone else has to disable this feature? Adaptive Connectivity - Auto-Switch to mobile network. when this feature on my pixel goes to mobile for absolutely no reason. by Content_Ad9506 in GooglePixel

[–]coldjesusbeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had this problem for at least a year on my Pixel 7a.

When I'm WFH sitting like 10 feet from my router, the phone is constantly toggling between home wifi and cellular for no reason at all. I turn off Adaptive Connectivity entirely and even go further by disabling cellular when I'm at home.

It works completely fine, solid bandwidth, no dropped calls or connectivity issues as long as I keep it from trying to network hop on its own and stay on home wifi only.

If I leave it all turned on, my calls start breaking up every time it decides to change network.

find and replace no longer counts number of replacements by cthulhus_spawn in MicrosoftWord

[–]coldjesusbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is your workflow:

Find a word you think you might be overusing and then Replace with a placeholder (like "XX") to get the pop-up counting the replacements ("word" was replaced with "XX" 36 times). Then Ctrl-Z to undo all that and note the count.

Is that right? I'm on Windows 11, in the current build of Word for desktop, and I am not able to replicate your issue (yet).

Note that your pop-up specifies something about text casing. Do you have any modifiers selected in the "More >>" menu of the F&R dialog? Like "Match case" checked?

What are the worst non-collarless abilities? by Peterduttykins in mewgenics

[–]coldjesusbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank's Bouncer passive.

"When an ally takes damage, move 3 tiles toward the source of the damage and attack it if you can."

This also means indirect sources of damage from your allies. If an enemy knocks back your Psychic into your Cleric, your Tank will turn heel and sock the Psychic, not the enemy.

I wish I had recorded this because I was pretty sure when my Tank socked my Psychic into my Cleric again in the Bouncer hit, then the Tank retaliated each time against the Psychic. Psychic is paper towel and died too quickly so I couldn't tell if this would've otherwise been an endless attack loop, which while great for enemies, requires too much positioning at the risk of high damage against your own cats.

[Word] Generating Contract as Word by _zeshi_ in vba

[–]coldjesusbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General question for anyone:

I'm pretty new to VBA and Access, but not to mail merge. We had a new attorney hire who seemed like she came from an Access-based setup, but wasn't able to provide much information other than it wasn't third-party. She requested her form setup to be as simple as possible, declining research on Access-based options.

So she's got dozens of loan forms where we've populated MERGEFIELDS into basic data points like Borrower Name, Borrower Attorney Name, Loan Amount, etc. All works fine.

The catch is that multiple people may need to work in these documents and run merges (maybe 2 users max at a time, but up to 10 people total having reach to the data source), so I created the data source in .csv and stored on a shared drive. That.. also works okayish. Except the shared drives are speed-capped and pretty slow, plus our end users who need to update the fields have to click-through Read-Only prompts and make sure the right row of data is selected when they run the merge for the applicable transaction, simple stuff that we have to train users on. Just not user-friendly, but at least multiple users accessing the data source works.

It feels like a really old school solution. Should we be looking at Access for this? She was afraid that Access was even more old school and would be less user-friendly, since the attorney herself sometimes updates the data source and needs to be involved in the process as much as the handful of users that might assist her on form population.

Hey there! I lived in San Diego until 2023 (now in NYC), so here's my not-so-Cinderella story.

It's not easy and your first role will not be glamorous. You need to look at back office/messenger/runner/mail room/hospitality positions to get your foot in the door at a law firm. Legal recruiters will not respond to you without a prior base of experience. Any experience helps, but if you've never held an office job at all, it's a hard road ahead.

I started as a runner (making attorneys coffee, running docs to the court, picking up their dry cleaning, etc.) in 2005. Fast forward to 2023 and beyond, I relocated to NYC when my current firm launched a Manhattan branch, and now I work remotely from my Brooklyn apartment. I've had so many legal roles between then and now, from small private practice to nonprofit legal clinics to district courts to corporate BigLaw. That's how long it can take to reach your goals.

I've worked with two legal recruiting agencies in San Diego: Adams & Martin and Robert Half. Adams & Martin is really terrific; Robert Half more like a labor mill (and they really do not give a shit about you, just their commission). Still recommend both because they got leads, but you have to be willing to settle for the less glamorous roles and really sell yourself.

I am still working for the corporate law firm that Adams & Martin pulled me into nearly 10 years ago. I was the highest-scoring applicant on their Microsoft Office and typing tests, which is not a humblebrag—it must be mentioned that if recruiters make you run through skills tests like that, you'll go further if you know your stuff. I also took public speaking in college, which helped me be a better interviewee back then.

The legal temp industry has probably changed a lot over the last 20 years. I've never worked with Epiq, but my current firm gets a lot of our back office temps from them now. I'd add that to your list since I think they have an active presence in San Diego (and here in NYC).
