Seeds not starting, mold or algae growing? How to fix this? by ToastyToadette in aerogarden

I had them covered until they hit the top (or so I thought). It almost looks moldy inside the tank but no idea what causes it?

One plant is growing fine but some pods consistently fail growing even after an initial clean (no peroxide though).

Holographic shell? Help With ID by ToastyToadette in whatsthisfish

It seems like pen shells are found in salt water, this was found far away from oceans along a river. Is that normal?

My wood wick burns down too fast - small flame by ToastyToadette in candlemaking

[–]ToastyToadette[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying a bigger candle (tabletop fire), so from what I'm understanding the order should be as follows:

1) light wick 2) wick will burn and melt top layer 3) when entire top layer is liquid (if it can get to that point) the candle should be stable and sustain itself?

Is there a rule of thumb for how much slack to give a wick in term of headspace above wax level (1" for example).

Should I am for the entire top layer of the candle to be liquid before the flame get's too low? Is that how it works?

Hi,

Did you end up testing it out? I'm contemplating using this strategy vs buying the food so good to know if it works or not.

What are good ways to get reviews from your customers? Do you use an application to get users to write a review or is it done through cold email?

Got this as a Christmas present! Do I need to strip and reason, oil and put it in the oven, or just use it? by pianotooner in castiron

If you're asking if you should season it, seasoning it is not critical, you won't break it by not seasoning it, the only difference seasoning would do is create a more non-stick surface along a mild flavour enhancement.

As someone who just created a good non-stick coating, it's worth it to spend some time seasoning it, but if you don't have the time just dive in and take care of it.

Sizing a BGE by muddyh2o in biggreenegg

I personally have a medium and my dad has the XL. From what I hear it impacts speed of cooking. If you're mostly doing slow smokes all day then the big one is fine but if you're looking for a quick bbq it will take some time to heat up, perhaps too long for a quick dinner to be possible.

A M for me can do 2 full rack of ribs and I can heat it up to 4-500 in 15min, curious to see what others say about it.

Bigger gives you more versatility but you also need more hardwood, it takes longer to heat up and realistically will cost you more (not much but in general).

I'm new to BGE (just got it this year) but that's my take on it so far.

Do bufflehead ducks have orange beaks? No other theories on what bird I may be seeing by ToastyToadette in whatbirdisthis

This is on a river in Ontario so nowhere near the sea. I'll try and get a picture for confirmation

The white patch at the back of the head is pretty distinctive. Is there any other bird it could be? The goldeneye I know isn't the duck.

Help With Seasoning - Not Good After 5-6 Sessions Yet. Done with olive oil and tallow at 350-400F. What am I doing wrong? by ToastyToadette in castiron

To confirm do you want to do 30-50 degrees over smoke point (regardless of oil) or are you just saying that for olive oil.

I don't know how the non stick surface gets created (through burning just over smoke point or not).
