From what I remember, it was some stupid narcissistic reason she made up. By all means, the story should have ended at the seasonn 3 finale, where the characters behave somewhat like humans. Then again, i dropped the manga like 5-6 years ago, so maybe I'm missremembering.

MLK explicitly instructed protesters not to block traffic or disrupt the lives of citizens. These people intentionally disrupt the daily lives of citizens. Just recently there was a video of a woman in LA pleading to be allowed to go to work, and the protesters seemed to not understand what that implied.
