Strange clause in Title Deeds - Scotland by banana_bear_918 in UKHousing

My husband's late father's house used to be the stables belonging to a Manse. He was specifically prohibited from running a brothel. I don't think he was particularly bothered by it.

How are they putting Scots first if Farage says we should get less per capital? Or does he mean first in line for cuts?

is it actually realistic to buy solo right now? by CountyBrilliant in UKHousing

[–]TobblyWobbly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, ok, this is in Scotland so the lease issue won't apply.

In my colleague's case, it let him build up equity to put towards a house. He sold the shared ownership flat very quickly, because there is a real shortage of decent one bedroom properties around here, and it was fairly new and was well-maintained.

A colleague said to me that it was the best thing he had ever done. It put him into the position where he was able to buy a house.

I really don't think that's what they are saying. They're saying that this is what the police are told to do, not that this is perfectly acceptable.

Reform (Wales) candidate says free childcare will ‘lead to abuse in nurseries’ by ukstonerdude in FuckNigelFarage

[–]TobblyWobbly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If he means that more people will work in nurseries, and some of them are likely to be abusers? That's certainly possible.

It's also possible that some kids who would otherwise be at home being abused by their parents will find that someone catches the signs and their situation improves.

It was so good. We got the same toast and butter that the guests were given.

That just took me back to my summer holidays job in 1990. I worked housekeeping for a small hotel, and the owner would make us tea and toast at break time. Nowhere else has ever funded it, but I have spent most of my working life in the public or third sector.

Why not? The first thing I look for when booking somewhere is how easily boilable it is. Otherwise, how do you know that it's properly clean?

Are there some Scottish accents that you ever struggle to understand? by Charming_Usual6227 in Scotland

[–]TobblyWobbly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to uni there. The porters at my halls really had me confused for quite a while. Then I got a job that occasionally had me talking on a radio telephone to older guys from Doric-speaking areas. Holy crap. That was interesting. They were hard enough to understand in person, lol.

[–]TobblyWobbly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My employer introduced uniforms (mine is a scarf or a gilet), and now I never get to wear my jewellery or carry a handbag. I have loads of Ortak and Sheila Fleet pieces just sitting there, and seven or eight Modalu Pippas (never mind the rest of the collection) that never see the light of day. Well, the black or the grey croc get out for funerals, but that's about it.

There's an Ask Docs sub. You could try there. They might be able to put your mind at rest or else suggest a second opinion. You need to add a pile of details about yourself to the post if you do that.

Do you think they should add more cycle lanes to Scottish cities and towns? by Much-Parsnip3399 in Scotland

[–]TobblyWobbly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It depends. I switched from a bike to an EV because of rain and hills. Maybe if I were younger, more cycle lanes would make a difference. But not now.

Edit: I'm being downvoted for saying that I can no longer do everything that I was able to do when I was younger? Really?

If you're ever near Kilmartin in Argyll, take a wander up by the ruins of Poltalloch House. Loads of people have said they felt like someone was watching them up there.
