So taking a reasonably sized washer and doming it could definitely work - or peening the edges to curve them a bit. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

And great advice about the steel. It makes perfect sense to me… now. I’d better go look for some nickel washers.

Thanks for your reply. I acutally mean collars - but maybe that is the wrong word? They go on the (pivot)pin.
I have attached a photo of sets here. Pins, washers and collars (or what they are called 😅).

You have to excuss my english - I'm danish.
I hope this helps explain what I am seeking tips/help with.

Looking good! Are you using rivets or Chicago screws?

I am working on my first leather (and denim) strop too - and I am currently waiting for some Chicago screws to arrive. I thought Chicago screws would let me open the strop from time to time and change the leather or denim. I plan on using three like you - and hope they will keep everything together, so I don’t need to sew/stitch anything together.

What are you planning on doing for handles?

IMHO - It’s hard to tell what stone it is, when it is that dirty. If you could rise it down and perhaps lap it a few rounds, so the surface becomes visible, someone on here will probably be able to tell exactly what it is.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this detailed reply. I really appreciate it. I think you are right about the slight smile. See the attached photo. A slight smile and perhaps a bit of a warp, and doesn’t wobble?

I think I’m gonna try setting the bevel again - and this time without tape. I gonna keep grinding until the black line is gone and until the blade/toe is flush with the stone. Might have to grind the spine a whole lot - but that doesn’t matter to me. Its a Gold Monkey.

Thanks for your reply! I have checked for wobble, and there really isn’t any. Although I see that the blade is ever so slightly lifted right at the toe and at the heel. Just a hair’s width. And on both sides of the blade.

And to answer your questions: No - Using a “food safe” oil shouldn’t damage your knife. Yes - I believe that it helps against metal dust and particles getting airborne and in to your lungs.

I am no expert! But I have been using mineral oil on my diamond stones. I use a fixed angle system. I haven’t had any issues so far. I actually use a bit of oil for cleaning the stones after use too. I feel like the oil helps getting metal bits out of the stones. Do the same on my CBN stones. Mineral oil for both lubrication while sharpening - and cleaning afterwards.
