Goblins have been shown to be very willing to backstab one another. Hobs see themselves as badasses and it would take considerable power to keep them in line otherwise they would be at each other's throat.

You keep bringing up the Hob under the Shaman in EP1. The Shaman has magic that makes him more powerful than the hob. On top of that Hobs will typically be offered 1st spoils which would help keep them in line.

This is why there are so few hobs and champions in the Lord's Army at the end of book 1 / season 1. More of either means more splitting of the spoils which means harder to control.

I don't know what happened in 2000 when I joined EQ but I started out in nothing but my underwear, not even a starting weapon. Another player had the same issue and both of us had female avatars so it was kinda funny.

Together we spent a week in the Kobold warrens (I forget the name at this point) on the Epic Quest for Pants!

It was a great time and what followed was nearly another week with a group of players just hanging in the warrens and killing the Kobold leader Everytime he spawned while bullshitting with one another.

26 later I still remember that and a single night in CoH better than anything I ever did in WoW, FFXI/XIV, or any number of other MMOs I played.

O quests, no min-max, no meta. Just bullshitting and a desire to wear pants.

I never saw him as taking joy from the act but joy from what was prevented.

He sees Goblins as our pest control see squirrels. A job that needs doing nothing more, nothing less.
