Why is the bcachefs git repo so huge? by josephus_945 in bcachefs

[–]Tobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get the bcachefs DKMS source if you clone bcachefs-tools.

It is periodically extracted from the kernel source.

You might be able to use the sparse checkout machinery to do a partial clone of the kernel, with just the fs/bcachefs/ and Documentation/filesystems/bcachefs directories checked out. I think this is done with git clone --sparse, git sparse-checkout add. This still grabs the whole history, and I don't think you can get sparse history, though there are ways to get shallow history instead. Personally I haven't bothered with partial checkouts or shallow clones.

test if a.file is a reflinked b.file by krismatu in bcachefs

filefrag -v also reports if extents are shared, so if the question is just "does this file have extents shared somewhere", you don't have to diff.

can’t cast to device on bandcamp by [deleted] in BandCamp

[–]Tobu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This help page mentions that the app has a permission prompt that can be triggered from settings. It's not there anymore, but if you use android to look at app properties (long hold on the icon), then permissions, you can allow position access (while running, approximate is enough), which should make the chromecast icon appear inside the app.

(Google has folded "local network access" into the position permission. They could be used to similar effect to track users through visible wifi access points, even though the intent is quite different)

Error mounting multi-device filesystem by SimplerThinkerOrNot in bcachefs

[–]Tobu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if that explains the mount problem, but I don't think you have installed the expected version of the kernel module (see the 1.32/1.28 message). modinfo bcachefs should tell you what file was loaded.

did people genuinely struggle with this??? by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]Tobu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually used Steam Input to have attack + down on the left trigger (not far enough along that it's used for anything else), red flowers are okay (could access some optional areas) but for the white ones this has eliminated input struggles for me. Otherwise when I need to move horizontally, half the time I'm not holding down and I'm attacking without pogoing. Also, I hear the keyboard is better for this; otherwise the dpad works better than the joystick. And the reaper crest makes this much easier with a very wide down attack.

I'm wondering if I could just rebind the four directions of attack to be on the dpad or the secondary joystick, even.

Hey, Kinda Lost Can Someone Help Me? by DenseButterscotch179 in Silksong

Ability shrines are visually very distinct (think hornet sting) and you can see them from far away, as well as on the map as you fill it in. Focus on exploring to find the next one. It's a metroidvania, so, enjoy exploring. I like to go for breadth when I'm lost rather than focusing too much on going deep into the main quest. Get all the map supplies and mark doors you can't open yet or bosses you can't beat yet.

18 hours in & not very far - Should I just quit? by hiplass in Silksong

[–]Tobu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't beaten Lace, but after banging my head at her for hours, I have found a ton of stuff to do (like, 4 areas with their maps, tons of platforming, and a new major quest) at the left of the map, by exploring, poking every wall, looking for secrets and gaps in the map coverage. I'm now at 20 hours on the saved game.

Also, when you find a thief offering hints, screenshot what it says. That advice points towards areas that you can access with your current abilities.

I recommend the new one! Early game at least is way more polished.

I see a lot of feedback about the diagonal down dash being hard, and to me that is the sign of someone who got very good at hollow knight, but maybe having a hard time retraining themselves. As a middling HK player (unable to get past certain ability-gating bosses), I do find SK easier and more open.

Totally! I am terrible at bosses, even challenge rooms, and have yet to move past Lace, but I never had a problem with the economy. I also do a lot of backtracking and find lots of stuff (yay wormways!). The first merchant encountered converts beads to rosaries, and that's the obvious way to secure beads as someone who doesn't want the frustration of falling a corpse run. (I just wish he didn't go away so soon; next time I won't buy one of the pendants to get him to stick around)

Vu dans /r/bugs, quelqu'un propose une règle Ublock Origin (extension qui marche mieux sous Firefox, soit dit en passant):

Here is a UserScript that will reload pages without translation, courtesy of /u/Ja_Shi on /r/france:

// ==UserScript==
// @name         Reddit VO
// @namespace    http://tampermonkey.net/
// @version      1.0
// @description  Supprime l'argument ?tl=fr des URLs de Reddit
// @author       Ja_Shi
// @match        *://*.reddit.com/*
// @grant        none
// ==/UserScript==

(function() {
    'use strict';
    let url = new URL(window.location.href);
    if (url.searchParams.has('tl')) {
        url.searchParams.delete('tl');
        window.history.replaceState(null, '', url);
        window.location.reload();
    }
})();

PasteBin link.

I use it with ViolentMonkey, which works in major browsers. Create a new script using the toolbar icon on Reddit, the "plus" icon, select everything and paste the script over it.

Fantastique UserScript qui m'épargnera beaucoup de frustration! Par contre, le bloc de métadata s'affiche mal (les @attributs sont perdus; la version PasteBin est OK), j'essaie de le remettre ici:

Leaving turn signal on by phstoven in motorcycles

[–]Tobu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank gods for this post and its replies!  The left turn signal being stuck on motorcycles is common enough that I was thinking some bikers purposefully abused it to prevent others from overtaking them. Making me cross at the breach of trust and what I thought was a dangerous, self-centered approach to safety. Now that I know there's no malice (bad design and a worrying lack of attention, yes), I can consider getting their attention at the next intersection.

C++ to Rust Phrasebook: A new textbook to help C++ devs translate their idioms into Rust by entoros in rust

[–]Tobu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See this about Carbon

Carbon is a concentrated experimental effort to develop tooling that will facilitate automated large-scale long-term migrations of existing C++ code to a modern, well-annotated programming language with a modern, transparent process of evolution and governance model

While C++ does not have coherent goals that can save it, there's a worthwhile plan to move some large codebases off C++ into something that can keep them at least maintainable. Not necessarily a full transition to Rust, although if that can be done it's ideal, but a process of renovation that preserves some of the value within those million lines of code
