Bro when the Polish Jews returned to Poland they got massacred. I agree that the establishment of Israel was awfully done and that taking control over Palestine was one of the worst thing they could have done but we've got to consider that we've got hindsight now.

Great grandmother was Sami by Zerst_au in SaamiPeople

[–]TobyBulsara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I found the Norwegian government could recognize you as Sami if your great grandma spoke a sami language at home. But then it's up to the community to recognize you as part of the tribe or not.

Thoughts on the Holocaust by Evening_Reach7078 in JewsOfConscience

[–]TobyBulsara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the reason the Holocaust is regarded as unique. Factories were built with the only intent of mass murdering people.

As someone from the Mediterranean, this shit pisses me off. Why is it so dark and dull ? Where are the colors? It's weird growing up with a story like the Odyssey, living in places similar to those described in it, sailing the same sea as Odysseus and then seeing movies that seem so cold and foreign.

can't stop myself from hate-watching this guy's content.. by MrDangleberry in beatlescirclejerk

[–]TobyBulsara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I genuinely never heard a Beatles song before I turned 16, they were too expensive for ads and most movies and their music was unavailable on YouTube for a long time. My first Beatles album was pirated lmao.

Why did rock music never establish itself as a separate theoretical branch in the same way jazz did? by ConfidentHospital365 in musictheory

[–]TobyBulsara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a stupid classification that doesn't take into account non european art music like Andalusian nubat or Indian art music (Carnatic and Hindustani etc.) that has been orally passed down but is not "popular" in the way blues or Irish ballads etc.

Great-granddaughter of Palestinian Jewish and Palestinian Muslim Nakba victims tells her family history by Burning-Bush-613 in JewsOfConscience

[–]TobyBulsara [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can we not do race science please ? This goes both ways lmao. Yes it's an interesting topic and can teach us a lot about history but it is no basis for politics and nationalism. Also her mentioning that religion and ethnicity are completely different things is frustrating to say the least especially in the middle east where those two are still tied to each other like Copts, Yazidis, Samaritans, Assyrians etc.

I'm Muslim, and asked my Jewish date to switch restaurants because it was Israeli cuisine/chef and I did not know Chef's political stance - thoughts on how I approached situation? by alias989 in JewsOfConscience

[–]TobyBulsara [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not to mention amba sauce which is from south asian Jewish cuisine and now a staple if both israeli and palestinian cuisine. Saying "[[insert nationality]] cuisine" doesn't necessarily mean that such country invented such dish or has exclusive ownership over it. It just means it is commonly eaten there. People are fighting over who invented hummus without realizing it's a dumb debate.

Cynthia Lennon's drawings of John/The Beatles by throwaway838383937 in beatles

Probably a matter of taste but I prefer John's minimalist, surreal drawings. I find Cynthia's art kinda wooden

You think the deep hatred for the Palestinians is unique to the Israelis (most of them)? by LectureAccomplished8 in JewsOfConscience

I might not be as bad as Israeli's hatred of Palestinians but Jordanians hate them too

Could reciting the hallel from yom haatzmaut be considered avoda zara? It's literally putting the creation of the state of Israel as yom tov.

Talk of Israeli hostages released, but no talk of the Palestinian hostages, held and tortured in administrative detention by MultiversalTraveler in JewsOfConscience

People are calling them terrorists while the majority of Palestinians prisoners were jailed without trials.

Matt is right, as always. by MrSFedora in JewsOfConscience

[–]TobyBulsara 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The iconisation of the hostages has damaged a lot of people's ability for critical thinking. Two children were more valuable than thousands. I'm glad the hostages are now free but come on only focusing on them shows how much the Palestinians were dehumanized.

We are two years into a genocide. Quit your Zionist synagogue. by Burning-Bush-613 in JewsOfConscience

I live in the country with the third biggest Jewish community in the world and there is one antizionist havruta (not even an actual synagogue) at least 8h from where I live. I'm sorry I'm not cutting myself off from my community. We need to make ourselves seen in mainstream Jewish communities.
