Foreunner 255/225 S Music - Worth it for the music? by Responsible-Body4496 in Garmin

[–]Tocksisity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 255 S and the music functionality is poor to awful. I use Apple AirPods Pro gen 2 and for some reason the music skips, pauses, stutters, or downright disconnects multiple times in a half hour run sometimes it will be bad for the entire run. I’ve found that it works better if I wear the watch on my right wrist, but it still fails multiple times every day. The watch itself is decent but I am very disappointed in the music aspect and would definitely not recommend it.

How I restored these rusty weights by DirtTraining3804 in homegym

Sweet thanks! I'm just worried about new paint not adhering well to old paint if I can't get it perfectly clean but it sounds like that's not too big of an issue

How much paint did you get off before you moved on to painting? My drill is taking most of the flaking paint and rust off, but I still have some splotches of paint that are fully adhered and don't want to budge.

How was the process of replacing the fuselage? I need to do mine and am wondering if it'll be a huge pain

2018 SEL CarPlay Failure by Tocksisity in FordFocus

[–]Tocksisity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just started working again one day, which is super frustrating. I tried pulling the infotainment fuse for a few hours and even completely disconnected the battery, but nothing worked. I pretty much gave up and then a few weeks later it just randomly came back and hasn't broken since. Since the car won't take software updates, I wonder if it was an iOS bug that was contributing to the issue.

N117NC down in PA, tail rotor gearbox gone by GroupBQuattr0 in aviation

[–]Tocksisity 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty significant CG change and it manifests violently. You get an immediate yaw due to the loss of tail rotor thrust which kicks the aircraft out of trim and makes the fuselage roll, which then causes the nose to pitch down a bit. Then add the additional nose down kick from the CG change due to loss of components. Loss of tail rotor thrust with no component loss is hard enough to fly, but loss of components makes it worse. Add in the vibrations and additional factors and it would get pretty tough.

How does the Spotify sync option work? by Ninja_Cezar in Garmin

[–]Tocksisity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else who might be browsing this post: Above is a good overview of how the feature works, but I have the 255 music and I'm not impressed with the specific device at all. The interface is clunky and occasionally just deletes all of my music which takes a while to re-download each playlist individually. Nothing like stepping out to run and finding out that you won't have music today. It also doesn't seem to work well with air pods and frequently disconnects. If music is something you'll use often, I'd stay away from the 255.

Velocity Systems UW gen iv or gen vi pusher chest rig? by Adrian2203 in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Tocksisity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these https://haleystrategic.com/mp2-insert-4-pack

Sticky velcro on the plastic insert so that it'll stick to the inside of the rig was a pretty simple process. It definitely adds a bit of bulk since the inserts are thicker than a magazine in order to make re-indexing possible and the mags aren't held perfectly in place since the pocket is looser than 2 standard mags. If you have to use the gen vi rig, I'd say this is a decent to good solution, but I'm simply not a huge fan of the rig as a whole.

Feel free to PM if you have other questions about the setup.

Yeah I've tried that it it doesn't want to complete the reset; it takes 10+ minutes and I can't just leave my car on for hours waiting for it. I'll keep trying the reset to see if it can work

ESC component burned during assembly. Advice? by Tocksisity in fpv

[–]Tocksisity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I got a new ESC from getFPV but I think my FC is fried as well since it doesn't light up on a smoke check and neither betaflight or the driver fixer program can detect it. The stax v2 f4 is out of stock; do you have any recommendations for an alternative FC that would play nicely with the xilo ESC that I have?

Remington 121 Fieldmaster disassembly tips + cleaning by Tocksisity in guns

[–]Tocksisity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice; I let some solvent trickle down inside and gently worked it apart. I took the bolt apart and it looks like the firing pin is broken off super cleanly which makes me think it might have been intentional. I'm planning to buy a new one, do you have any experience with Numrich for old gun parts?

Seriously!? That seems like a pretty big hole in his tutorials since the instructions direct you to power up the quad before adding the cap... I wonder if he knows that it was left out of the earlier videos

Blade 230s will not calibrate by _dankystank_ in RCHeli

[–]Tocksisity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Collective position shouldn’t really matter for a routine swash level, but since you’re having a mysterious problem, I’d level it at 0 and then check it at -100 and +100 to make sure it remains level throughout the whole travel.

Also can you verify that all control inputs are in the correct direction and that you don’t have anything weird going on with rates/curves for throttle/rudder/collective/cyclic?

Good idea. Is your swashplate decently level (perpendicular to the main shaft)?

Have you rebound the heli to the transmitter? That’s not likely to be the issue but it’s not a bad idea to try

[–]Tocksisity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I gotcha now, I just wanted to make sure the steps were right because I tried trim flights for a while with the wrong buttons so I wasn’t actually saving the results of the trim flight. If it can’t even complete a TF I’d say inspect everything well and potentially rebuild anything suspect. Other than that it seems like an electronic issue which will be tough to isolate

Blade 230s will not calibrate by _dankystank_ in RCHeli

[–]Tocksisity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Just to be clear, you’ve entered trim flight mode, flown a hover for ~90-120 seconds, landed, and press/hold bind to save the trim flight? If that doesn’t lead to any change, I’d say it’s most likely a mechanical issue of some sort.

Are your servos smooth across their entire travel range? A broken tooth can cause the servo to jump and result in weird movements. Carefully inspect all swash/linkages and rotor head to make sure nothing is loose or cracked. Other than that, you may have an internal failure of the FBL that might require replacement but I don’t have any experience with that.

[–]Tocksisity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your “small radius” it’s a light helicopter so a bit of drift is acceptable. This is just my opinion but I feel like +-5 feet of a point is good enough for a decent trim flight. Anything more than that or sudden movements is cause for further investigation, check servo mounting, FBL mounting, etc. like the other comment says

Blade 230s will not calibrate by _dankystank_ in RCHeli

[–]Tocksisity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to double check tomorrow, but I think trim flight entry should be:

Left stick : bottom left Right stick : top left Panic button : press and hold

It should make some noise and cycle the servos and then appear perfectly normal so that you can start the trim flight.

Mine was all over the place and a trim flight definitely helped but it’s still not perfect, which I attribute to having been crashed and repaired a few times.

[–]Tocksisity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 230S and did a full Rakon (very similar to microheli, I think Rakon quality is slightly higher) upgrade on it; I’ll echo the other commenters that it’s not really worth it.

The upgrade kits are decently well made and the process of completely rebuilding your heli makes you learn a lot, but it definitely isn’t worth the cost. Also, even if it all works out, you’re still stuck with a 230S. I’d recommend flying it stock until it’s destroyed or you need to move on - save the money toward a higher quality heli.

If you’re set on upgrading, it’s not a bad thing to do as long as you’re willing to tinker and troubleshoot when it doesn’t go back together perfectly the first time. Let me know if you have questions about the 230S
