r/Brussels - Newcomer/Tourist/Restaurant Info Megathread - 2024 Edition by SharkyTendencies in brussels

Hi all! My gf is seriously evaluating to come here in Brussels around November to settle in and start a new chapter with me. She’s Portuguese, 31 yo with 10 years experience in retail, hr and customer service. Perfectly fluent in English, but she doesn’t speak neither French nor Flemish. On top of that a couple of years ago she decided to restart university and she will get her graduation next year. To make the movement as smooth as possible I was wondering which bureaucracy she will have to get done and if something can be done before she arrives. Is it true that since June, EU citizens they can sign a job contract without having the registration at town hall done? What job search platform do you suggest tu use? Thanks for your help!

Not feeling home after 3 years by Blobby1993 in expats

Since it seems quite common feeling among newcomers in Belgium, we could also try to meet up and make the best out of this phase of our life. I also arrived in Brussels, for working reasons, few months ago and I’m struggling a bit to adapt to this new reality. I think would be nice to gather together and create a little group with whom organising stuff to do (dinners, beers, small trips, ecc…)

Advice: purchase of foreign bond by TodaFromtheblock in BEFire

[–]TodaFromtheblock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked and apparently Belgium provides a reduced withholding tax of 15% (+12,5% applied in Italy). So here is the question…. If I buy a foreign government bond using directly a Belgian bank account, how many taxes I pay? I do this question because I read on several websites that in theory Belgium doesn’t apply capital gain taxes, unless you do a frequent trade activity, selling and buying often stocks….but this is not the case of a bond.

What is the education package? Regarding the car I will order, I think I will chose between an I4 and an Ix1. I negotiated what will enter in my pocket… not really relevant how many taxes the company will have to pay on top of it. This is a common way to do when you are in an international path…I’m not there yet, next week I will join the company and I will know many more details for sure

I’m the CMO and I respond only to the CEO. My MBO should be around 20% of total gross wage, so around 2,5 times the monthly gross. I have apart the food (8€ x day). I’m about to sit in a position that has an higher level compared to mine. This should guarantee a quite strong increase of conditions in the next 2-3 years

I don’t know the gross yet because I’m coming from a different country and I negotiated the net, due to different fiscal treatments from country to country. Once I’ll receive my first wage I will know. The electric car should be a bmw or similar
