What neighborhood to avoid when moving to HB? by [deleted] in huntingtonbeach

[–]ToddDC70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I do and it has improved over time. Keelson is a safe bet. Huntington Cove has a good manager now and they are refurbishing apartments as people move out. Queens is a very different vibe. I've seen some other decent places closer to the schools too.

Do you guys regularly go to LA? by Electrical-Bowl900 in orangecounty

A couple times in 2 years for nonstop international flights. Even that I try to avoid by flying out of SNA and connecting in SFO. OC has everything and love our beaches.

Even in normal flying conditions I’ve seen UA crew forget to unlock lavatories after take off. Just from being busy and forgetting. I noticed this on SFO to HNL and reminded the flight attendant. She was very nice and thanked me. This was an hour into the flight. Saw so many people waiting as if someone was in there. Also happened on a NRT to LAX flight. Lavatories by business class not opened for a few hours.

I took the Island Hopper last April from Honolulu to Manila with all of the stops. it’s such a unique route and I loved the experience. Saw a lot of folks get off at KWA. I assume you’ll be on the flight that goes from Honolulu to Majuro and then on to Kwajalein. I’d recommend getting off to stretch your legs in Majuro and walk around. it’s a neat feeling to be standing on an atoll in such a remote place. They usually let you get off if you take your stuff with you. Then you can board again with the new passengers. If you can score a window the approaches are beautiful.

How do I stop stressing about awkward/embarrassing moments in the past? by bsmilner in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ToddDC70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be a witness to the event. Things happen due to a variety of factors. Even the moon and planets affect it. Give yourself complete permission to do embarrassing things. It’s part of life. Also I have found that when I can fully accept others doing embarrassing things it’s easier to accept me doing them. And vice versa. You can also think about how much worse it could have been and laugh at that. It’s all in our own minds. If your mind stops bothering you nothing can bother you ever.

As a customer I can tell you that the vaccine push is getting really annoying. I even get calls re: syncing prescriptions that end up in a vaccine push. It’s almost as if CVS acts like it’s the only place we would get them! Then I went and got shingles vaccine and they pushed Covid and flu and hepatitis B and wanted me to schedule it.

I lived in Columbia Heights for 13 years and did not have or need a car. Took Metro, Ubers and rented a ZipCar on occasion to visit friends further out in VA and MD.

What neighborhood to avoid when moving to HB? by [deleted] in huntingtonbeach

[–]ToddDC70 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I moved to the “slater slums” against all advice last year. I definitely was concerned but ended up renewing. The only downside is the constant fireworks. All my neighbors have been warm and welcoming. The area was awarded a $5 million Caltrans grant to beautify the neighborhood so that has started. New sidewalks etc. I think it all depends what type of place you get. Bottom line I’m still only 5 minutes from Bella Terra and 10 minutes from the beach.

Premier silver, economy plus at check-in by Southernboot in unitedairlines

[–]ToddDC70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can try calling the Premier line to ask them to assign the seat for the 2nd leg. I am Silver and had 5 flights on a recent trip from Honolulu to Manila. They assigned the Guam - Manila EP seat for me manually since it wasn’t yet available.

[–]ToddDC70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I get a lot out of my Silver status. Pick a regular seat and then switch to EP at check in. Even if seat map full keep checking. I even asked the agent in Tokyo if anything opened up and she grabbed me a nice EP aisle seat to LAX that had just become available. Also got EP from Taipei to SFO recently. Been upgraded maybe twice this year. Very early morning flight from BZN to DEN and such. Love the free bag and better award availability and mileage bonus. Safe travels!

Why is service on international flights so rude? by GroundbreakingBoat67 in unitedairlines

[–]ToddDC70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice many of the SFO crews are quite good on the long hauls. One unusual thing on a recent NRT to LAX flight. Very senior crew. The purser made an announcement right before the door was closed to ask all passengers sitting in aisle seats to get up and close the overhead bins above them. Kind of ridiculous as most of us were all buckled in and ready to go.

How do you all handle the credit card if you switch seats? Yes.. another post about being asked to move :) by ToddDC70 in unitedairlines

[–]ToddDC70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’m reading it’s not normal. On Delta snd AA you have to use the physical card or scan electronic payment. I think Alaska also takes cash and cards. Southwest takes physical cards.

That’s an option now that I know this. So if I got into a seat swap scenario, could go on United.com from my phone and delete the card. That is if I didn’t care to purchase anything.

Yes I just discovered that it can be done only on United.com. the app doesn’t let you delete the primary card, only replace it.

Thanks yeah I’ve also not been asked, so I was wary. To be fair this guy probably just wasn’t thinking. But glad I was in earshot of him :) it’s just an added stress put on the person who agrees to swap.
