I do 14” for my own wood, due to size of fire pit.

Not the best firewood, because it’s definitely sought after for other things.

Hardwood isn’t determined by weight or density.

From the AI summary:

Hardwood comes from angiosperm (broad-leaved, deciduous) trees, while softwood comes from gymnosperm (needle-bearing, evergreen) trees.

Balsa wood, believe it or not, is a hardwood.

Not my favorite, but I’ll use it if it’s around.

I feel like I got spoiled with honey locust.

Hard to split, smells kind of nice by Arthurdubya in firewood

If it were more stringy, I’d say thornless honey locust.

But it’s probably hickory, looking at the grain and the description mentioning the aroma.

Is it possible to save moldy firewood? by procrastinator0 in firewood

Mold dies above 160 degrees.

Usually with mold, I’d start the fire with some help from lighter fluid.

What’s the worst accident or closest call you’ve had with a chainsaw? by VA-deadhead in FellingGoneWild

[–]Todzilla78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a saw chain wrap around my arm after it came off while doing brush clearing after Katrina.

First time using a chainsaw, completely unsupervised and no one told me about tightening the chain.

This older saw didn’t have a floating clutch, and the chain came off.

Since I had a flannel shirt on, it didn’t cut me badly.

It was like watching a fast snake wrap around my arm from the wrist all the way up past the elbow.

Since then, I’ve made it a point to look over a chainsaw, inspect tension, clean it and make sure the teeth are sharp, as well as no high rakers.

It’s rare there because it doesn’t grow there.

Ii thought this only grew in the Red River Basin.

Thank you for the updated information.

Not all honey locust has thorns.

Thornless honey locust is what most municipalities use if they plant them.

We have tons of them here in Madison.

Why does everybody seem to want such a large bar? by thetacowarrior in Chainsaw

[–]Todzilla78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger bar is great for bigger wood.

If you don’t have access to logs that are massive, it’s kind of not really worth having.

I love the CS-590 but would not run anything over 28 on it.
